SERVICE PROCEDURE Replace Starter, Add Cleaner 1. Replace the starter motor. • Use the part number from the Parts Information section of this bulletin. • Refer to section SC, “STARTING SYSTEM, Removal and Installation” in the applicable Nissan Electronic Service Manual (ESM). 2. Add one full can of Nissan In-Tank Fuel System Cleaner to the fuel. NOTE: If the fuel tank is less than ¾ full, instruct the customer to fill the tank as soon as it is convenient after the repair. Driving with the Cleaner installed and low fuel level will not harm the fuel system or engine, but will reduce the effectiveness of the cleaning process. 3. Continue to ECM Part Number Check (next page). 1. The text that follows explains the model names used by Volvo Penta for gas engines. Several methods have been used to provide the gas engines with unique model names. Some were based on horsepower ratings. More recent names are based on the displacement of the engine in liters. Each time the name was changed, it was due to some change in the parts content of the engine. Sometimes the changes were minor, sometimes they were major. The changes may or may not affect the parts that you need for a repair. The safest method is to always search with the complete model name. REPAIR PROCEDURE: 2002-04 MODELS 1. Replace the rear differential fluid: •Refer to page 15-13 of the 2002-04 CR-V Service Manual , or •Online, enter keywords REAR DIFF, and select Rear Differential Fluid Inspection and Replacement (4WD) from the list. 2. Raise the vehicle on a lift until all four wheels are completely off the ground and can rotate freely. 3. Start the engine, and let it idle until the radiator fan cycles on and off twice. 4. Burnish the rear differential clutches: Automatic transmission models – •Set the parking brake, and shift the transmission to D. Let the engine idle for 5 minutes. •With the shift lever in D, release the parking brake, keep the wheel speed at 10 mph, and let all four wheels rotate freely for 5 minutes. •Apply the brakes to stop the wheels, repeat the bulleted steps one more time, then go to step 5. Manual transmission models – •With the engine idling and the parking brake released, shift the transmission into 1st, release the clutch, and let the wheels rotate for 5 minutes. •Disengage the clutch, and apply the brakes to stop the wheels. Shift the transmission into reverse, release the clutch, and let the wheels rotate for 5 minutes. •Shift the transmission into neutral, then apply the brakes to stop the wheels. •Repeat the bulleted steps one more time, then go to step 5. 5. Shift the transmission to P (A/T) or neutral (M/T), and turn off the engine. 6. Let the rear differential cool for 10 minutes

Line Pressure Check Procedure Tools Required Important: Before performing a line pressure check, verify that the pressure control (PC) solenoid valve is receiving the correct electrical signal from the PCM. Caution: Keep the brakes applied at all times in order to prevent unexpected vehicle motion. Personal injury may result it the vehicle moves unexpectedly. J 21867Universal Pressure Gauge Set 1. Install a Scan Tool. 2. Start the engine and set the parking brake. 3. Check for a stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). 4. Repair the vehicle, if necessary. 5. Check the fluid level. Refer to the Transmission Fluid Checking Procedure. 6. Check the manual linkage for proper adjustment. 7. Turn the engine OFF. Remove the oil pressure test hole plug and install the J 21867. 8. Put the gear selector in PARK range and set the parking brake. 9. Start the engine and allow the engine to warm up at idle Notice: Total test running time should not be longer than two minutes, or else transmission damage could occur. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices. Parts Information 10. Access the PC solenoid valve control test on the Scan Tool. Zoom Sized for Print 11. Increase the PC solenoid as shown actual current from 0.0 to 1.0 amps in 0.1 amp increments. Allow the pressure to stabilize for five seconds after each pressure change. Read the corresponding line pressure on the J 21867. 12. Refer to the Line Pressure specification table. Compare the data to the table. 13. If pressure readings differ greatly from the table, refer to Incorrect Line Pressure. 14. Remove the J 21867. 15. Apply sealant, P/N 12345382 (in Canada, P/N 10953489), to the oil pressure test hole plug. 16. Install the oil pressure test hole plug. Tighten Tighten the oil pressure test hole plug to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
