A/T Interlock System Circuit Diagram SHIFT LOCK SYSTEM CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING 1. Press the brake pedal. Are the brake lights ON? YES -Go to step 2. NO -Repair faulty brake light circuit. 2. Connect the HDS to the DLC. Check engine speed and throttle position in the A/T data list. Is the engine speed at idle, and TPS about 0.5 V? YES -Go to step 3. NO -Repair engine speed or throttle position input. 3. Select SHIFT LOCK SOL TEST in MISC. TEST MENU, then carry out shift lock solenoid function test. Does the shift lock solenoid work properly? YES -System circuit is OK. Check the shift lock mechanism, if necessary. NO -Go to step 4. 4. Remove the center console (See CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ). 5. Disconnect the shift lock solenoid connector. 6. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). 7. Measure the voltage between No. 1 terminal of the shift lock solenoid connector and body ground. Fig. 3: Measuring Voltage Between No. 1 Terminal Of Shift Lock Solenoid Connector & Body Ground Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 8. NO -Check for blown No. 21 fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box. If the fuse is OK, repair open in the wire between the shift lock solenoid connector and the under-dash fuse/relay box. 8. Shift the shift lever into the P position, and press the brake pedal. Do not press the accelerator. 9. Measure the voltage between shift lock solenoid connector terminals while pressing the brake pedal Fig. 4: Measuring Voltage Between Shift Lock Solenoid Connector Terminals Is there battery voltage? YES -Check the shift lock mechanism. If the mechanism is OK, replace the shift lock solenoid (see Shift Lock Solenoid Replacement ). NO -Check for poor or loose PCM connector terminal E2 at the PCM, and check for an open in the wire between PCM connector terminal E2 and shift lock solenoid connector. If the connection and wire is OK, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck. KEY INTERLOCK SYSTEM CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING

Unscrew the Knob and the Cam 2. Insert the Lock from the front and the LockWasher from the rear and the Lock Clip from the side 3. Push the Lock Clip in fully to hold the Lock and Washer in place. 4. Mount the Lock Cam to the Lock. Turn the key to check the Cam turns freely. You may have to pull the Clip slightly for clearance. 5. Drill four holes through the Cover using the stiffening plate as a template. IMPORTANT: Don’t drill through the center bosses. Contents: Lock Cylinder, Lock Washer Lock Screw, Lock Cam, Lock Clip Stiffening Plate, 4 Carriage Bolt, 4 Nuts, Instructions, Warranty Card Tools Required: Screw Driver, Power Drill with 5 MM drill bit, 11MM Socket Tech Support: 1-800-342-5911 6. Insert the 4 Carriage Bolts from the front and mount the Stiffening Plate with the four nuts. 7. Tighten the four Nuts and turn the key to check for smooth operation

1. Disconnect the truck’s battery a. Using a 10mm wrench, disconnect the truck’s battery at the negative terminal in the engine compartment. 2. Expose the OEM ECU a. (Photo 1) Locate the ECU on the passenger’s side of the engine compartment rear bulkhead. b. Rotate the top OEM plug’s grey locking lever “up” and disconnect the plug from the ECU. Note: The plugs have locking levers which must be rotated to remove and install the plugs. Do not force the locking levers or plugs c. Rotate the bottom OEM plug’s grey locking lever “down” and disconnect the plug from the ECU. Note: The plugs have locking levers which must be rotated to remove and install the plugs. Install the large and small PnP Plugs into the OEM ECU and rotate the grey locking levers flush to secure them Note: The plugs have locking levers which must be rotated to remove and install the plugs. Disassembly 1. Remove dash panel bracket and store bracket in a safe place to prevent damage to mounting capsules. 2. Place column in a vise using both weld nuts of either set A or B, Fig. 29. The vise jaws must clamp onto the sides of weld nuts indicated by arrows shown on set B. Do not place column in vise by clamping onto only one weld nut, by clamping on one weld nut of both sets A and B or by clamping onto the sides not indicated by arrows, as damage to column could result. 3. Inspect steering shaft to determine type of thread used for steering shaft nut. Metric type shafts can be identified by a groove located in area of steering wheel locating splines, while shafts with American type threads do not have this groove. If shaft has metric type threads, the forcing screw of Lock Plate Compressor Tool J-23653 must be removed and replaced with the metric forcing screw J-23653-4 before installing lock plate compressor tool on steering shaft. Compress lock plate using lock plate compressor tool, then pry snap ring from shaft groove and discard wing. Remove lock plate compressor tool and lock plate. 4. Remove directional signal switch, lock cylinder and ignition key warning switch, then remove steering shaft from lower end of column. 5. On power steering columns, remove steering shaft lower bearing from plastic adapter at lower end of column. 6. Remove four turn signal housing to column jacket retaining screws and remove housing and shroud assembly. 7. Remove three shroud to signal housing retaining screws and remove shroud. 8. Using hand as shield to prevent lock inhibitor lever spring wire from flying out, remove lock inhibitor lever and spring wire. 9. Lift ignition switch actuating rod, rack assembly, shaft lock bolt and spring assembly from housing, then if necessary, remove rack preload spring. 10. Remove ignition switch actuator sector through lock cylinder hole by pushing firmly on block tooth of sector with a blunt punch or screwdriver.

This bellhousing is not compatible with transmissions that were previously equipped with diesel engines. The bellhousing design incorporates a special modified clutch release lever and a Toyota Land Cruiser slave cylinder. We have provided slave cylinder mounting on the passenger side of the bellhousing and have incorporated a new push rod location that will provide a quick short travel of the clutch release mechanism. The kit does not include the Toyota Land Cruiser slave cylinder, Part No. 31470-60022. The bellhousing is designed for the 153 tooth flywheel application. If your block is equipped with a 168 tooth flywheel, you will be required to use a high torque starter without a nose cone to fit the bellhousing (P/N 22-0001). The bellhousing is compatible with the Buick flywheel that has 160 teeth. A slight modification may be required in the starter pocket area when using the Buick installation. The inside of the bellhousing uses a high profile Centerforce diaphragm clutch assembly. By using this pressure plate, you can be sure that the slave cylinder travel will be appropriate for obtaining a maximum clutch release. The release bearing, Part No. N1430, is a standard flat faced Chevy release bearing. The bearing must not have continual contact with the fingers of the clutch. Adjust the length of your push rod for clearance between the fingers and the face of bearing. In order to adjust the height of the release bearing, we recommend that you install the new bellhousing over the clutch assembly and onto the engine prior to assembling the transmission to the bellhousing. By doing this procedure, you will be able to install the clutch release lever, slave cylinder, slave cylinder push rod, and release bearing directly to the clutch assembly. The reason this is necessary is that there are variations as to the thickness of the flywheel which either raise or lower the fingers of the clutch as related to the release bearing. The push rod of the slave cylinder can be adjusted, to obtain the necessary clearance between the release bearing and clutch fingers. If the bearing is permitted continual contact on the fingers, then you will have premature release bearing failure. We do not furnish a rubber boot for the area between the bellhousing and clutch arm since it is too restrictive for the clutch arm movement. We believe that the location of the opening is such that any dust or other debris will have a hard time accessing the opening. If you anticipate water hazards, we would recommend a small rubber flapper that could be screwed to the outside of the bellhousing.

Steering Column Disassembly CAUTION: Do not remove the steering column, steering wheel and air bag module as an assembly from the vehicle unless the column is locked to prevent rotation, or lower end of steering shaft is wired in such a way to prevent the steering wheel from being rotated, as this will damage the air bag sliding contact. 1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01 . 2. Remove steering wheel (3600) as described. 3. Remove steering column from vehicle as described. 4. Remove steering column lower yoke (3N725), steering column upper bearing spring (3520), suspension height sensor control ring (3C131) and steering column bearing tolerance ring (3L539). Lower Steering Column Assembly 5. Remove turn indicator cancel cam (13318) by pushing up with flat-bladed screwdriver. Note direction of flush surface. 6. Remove ignition switch (11572) assembly. 7. Remove bearing retainer (3C610) and steering column upper bearing spring. . Remove steel steering column bearing tolerance ring and steering column bearing sleeve (3518). 9. Remove plastic bearing retainer from ignition switch lock cylinder bore. 10. Remove metal steering column lock housing bearing (3E700) from ignition switch lock cylinder bore. 11. Note position of steering column lock gear (3E717) to actuator lock. Remove steering column lock gear. 12. Remove two pivot bolts. Use caution becausesteering column position spring (3D655) will release when bolts are removed. Remove steering column lock cylinder housing (3511). 13. Remove steering column shaft assembly from steering column. 14. Remove steering column lock lever actuator (3E715) and steering actuator housing (3F723). 15. Remove lower steering column bearing (3517) and steering column lower bearing retainer (3D681).

FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS Dana 35-IFS & Automatic Locking Hubs 1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheel assemblies. Remove retaining washers from wheel lug nut studs. See Fig. 1 . 2. Remove automatic locking hub assemblies. Remove snap ring and axle shaft spacer. Carefully pull plastic cam assembly from bearing adjusting nut. Remove 2 plastic thrust washers from adjusting nut. 3. Using magnet, remove locking key from spindle keyway. It may be necessary to rotate adjusting nut slightly to relieve pressure for locking key removal. Loosen adjusting nut with 2 3/8″ Hex Socket (T70T- 4252-B). 4. Tighten adjusting nut to 35 ft. lbs. (47 N.m) while turning hub back and forth to seat bearings. Spin hub and back off adjusting nut 90 degrees. Retighten adjusting nut to 16 INCH lbs. (1.8 N.m). 5. Align nearest hole in adjusting nut with center of spindle keyway slot. If necessary, advance nut to next lug. Install locking key in spindle keyway under adjusting nut. Install 2 thrust washers. Press plastic cam assembly onto adjusting nut while lining up key in fixed cam with spindle keyway. 6. Install axle shaft spacer. Clip snap ring onto end of spindle. Install automatic locking hub assembly with 3 legs of hub assembly inserted into 3 pockets of cam assembly. Install retaining washers and wheel assembly. Check hub and rotor assembly end play. End play should be 0-.003″ (0-.08 mm)

Step 1: (A) Position truck on a flat surface and lift vehicle by the frame so that the front wheels are off the ground using a floor jack and jack stands or a (2) two post lift if available. Next locate the torsion key at the rear of the torsion bar under the cab of the truck. (Insert A) Note: Prior to lifting the vehicle it is recommended that you measure the stock height of the vehicle so that you have a base line to gauge when you are adjusting the height of the vehicle. Measuring the vehicle from the bottom of the wheel to the lip of the fender as in (Insert B) is recommended. (B) Step 2: Remove the torsion key adjusting bolt completely. Using a ReadyLift® Torsion Bar Unloading Tool Part # 66-7822A, and the bracket supplied in the kit as shown in (Insert C) Compress the key so that you can remove the threaded part of the torsion adjuster. Releasing the tension on the unloading tool will now release the tension on the torsion bar. Slide torsion bar forward allowing the torsion key to be removed. As in (Insert D) Insert C Insert D Installation Instructions 02-05 Dodge Ram 1500 4wd (cont.) Step 3: Install the Forged torsion key and slide torsion bar back into position as in (Insert E) IMPORTANT! Make sure Torsion Bar is extended at least ¼inch through the Torsion Key. Apply pressure with Torsion Bar Unloading Tool to the torsion key, and create enough space to reinsert the torsion key keeper that the adjusting bolt threads into. Insert E Step 4: Reinstall the adjusting bolt, and adjust it so ¼” of bolt threads extend beyond torsion key keeper. IMPORTANT! – Each ¼” of adjustment on the bolt equals 1″ at the wheel. It is best to check ride height after this initial setting and adjust as needed. Step 5: Repeat steps 1 through 3 on the Passenger Side of the vehicle. Follow each step closely making sure to double check the torque on all fasteners. Measure the distance between the tires and fenders to make sure both sides of the truck are even. Step 6: Wheel Alignment; a Certified Alignment Technician that is experienced with lifted vehicles is recommended to perform the alignment. *It is recommended that you have your vehicle’s alignment checked whenever installing new tires. *It is also recommended that you adjust your headlights whenever your vehicle’s ride height is altered.

Instrument Panel Removal 1. If equipped with power seats, move the seat fully rearward. 2. Remove the passenger air bag. For additional information, refer to Section 501-20B . 3. Remove the driver air bag. For additional information, refer to Section 501-20B . 4. NOTE: On vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, move the shift lever to the 1 position to ease removal. Carefully pry to release the (A) clips and remove the (B) steering column opening cover. 5. Position the electrical connector aside. * Release the push clip from the lower instrument panel steering column cover (044F08). 6. Pull to release the three (A) clips and remove the (B) fuse door. 7. Position the hood latch release handle aside. 1. Remove the screws. 2. Position the hood latch release handle aside. 8. Position the parking brake release handle aside. 1. Remove the screws. 2. Position the parking brake release handle aside. 9. If equipped, remove the instrument panel floor duct panel. * Remove the two push clips and release the expander clip. 10. Remove the lower instrument panel steering column cover (04459). 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Remove the lower instrument panel steering column cover. 11. Remove the LH and RH scuff plates. 12. Remove the LH and RH cowl side trim panels. 13. Disconnect the brake pedal position (BPP) switch electrical connector. 14. Remove the (A) radio ground and the (B) GEM/CTM ground bolts. 15. Disconnect the LH instrument panel main harness connectors. 16. Remove the bulkhead wiring harness electrical connectors from inside the engine compartment. 1. Loosen the bolts. 2. Disconnect the bulkhead electrical connectors. 17. Remove the bulkhead electrical connector from the dash panel. 1. Release the six locking tabs. 2. Remove the bulkhead connector from the dash panel. 18. Disconnect the air bag diagnostic monitor electrical connectors. 19. Disconnect the inertia fuel shutoff switch electrical connector. 20. Remove the RH ground bolts. 21. Disconnect the RH instrument panel main harness connectors. 22. Disconnect the electronic blend door actuator electrical connector. 23. Disconnect the climate control head vacuum harness connector. 24. Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement (04502). 1. Remove the nuts. 2. Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement. 25. Disconnect the air bag sliding contact electrical connectors and the anti-theft sensor electrical connector.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. 2. Remove lock cylinder bezel from steering column shroud by carefully prying with a thin bladed screwdriver. 3. Remove shroud fasteners and remove steering column upper and lower shroud panels. 4. Insert key into ignition lock cylinder and rotate to RUN position If ignition lock cylinder can be rotated to RUN position, continue to step 30. ^If ignition lock cylinder cannot be rotated to RUN position, continue with next step. 5. Using a light hammer and brass drift, tap lightly on the top side of the ignition housing assembly at the location indicated in the illustration, while trying to turn the ignition key. ^If the ignition key turns, proceed to step 30. ^If the ignition key does not turn replace the ignition module/passlock sensor by continuing with next step. 6. Disable SIR system. Refer to “Disabling Frontal Inflators” procedure in the 2000/2001 S-Series Body Electrical Volume II Service Manual
