Action Taken When the DTC Sets Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC Diagnostic Aids Test Description The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table. 2. This step verifies that the PCM is receiving a signal from the vehicle speed sensor. 3. This step verifies that there are no opens in the circuitry from the vehicle speed sensor to the PCM connector. 7. This step performs a resistance test on the VSS circuits from the PCM connector. • The transmission defaults to 3rd gear. • The PCM inhibits TCC operation. • The PCM illuminates the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). • The PCM turns OFF the MIL after three consecutive ignition cycles without a failure reported. • A scan tool can clear the DTC from the PCM history. The PCM clears the DTC from the PCM history if the vehicle completes 40 warm-up cycles without a failure reported. • The PCM cancels the DTC default actions when the fault no longer exists and the ignition is OFF long enough in order to power down the PCM. • Check for PRNDL DTC P0705. DTC P0705 affects transmission operation. This may set DTC P0502 falsely. • Check for Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) in circuits 400 and 401. EMI may be induced if the harness is routed along the spark plug wires. • Inspect the wiring for poor electrical connections at the PCM. Inspect the wiring at the TCC brake switch. Look for the following conditions: – A bent terminal – A backed out terminal – A damaged terminal – Poor terminal tension – A chafed wire – A broken wire inside the insulation • When diagnosing for an intermittent short or open condition, massage the wiring harness while watching the test equipment for a change. • Ensure that the VSS is securely tightened to the case extension. The number below refers to the step number on the diagnostic table. 2. This test determines if the conditions exist in order to set the DTC P0152. 3. If the HO2S (Bank 2, Sensor 1) is intrnally shorted, the HO2S (Bank 2, Sensor 1) voltage displayed on a scan tool will be over 1.0 volt (1000 mV). Important: Before clearing DTCs, use the scan tool in order to record the Freeze Frame and the Failure Records for reference. This data will be lost when the Clear DTC Information function is used. Was the Powertrain On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check performed? — Go to Step 2 Go to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check 2 1. Connect the scan tool. 2. Run the engine at the normal operating temperature. 3. Place the vehicle in park or neutral. 4. Apply the parking brake. 5. Increase the engine speed to the specified value. Does the scan tool data display indicate HO2S sensor voltage fixed above the specified value? 1200 RPM 0.976 V (976 mV) Go to Step 3 Go to Step 4 3 1. Disconnect the HO2S. 2. Turn on the ignition while leaving the engine OFF. 3. Turn ON the ignition leaving the engine off. Does the scan tool data display indicate the HO2S voltage near the specified value? 400 mV) Go to Step 6 Go to Step 5 4 The DTC is intermittent. Are any additional DTCs set? — Go to the applicable DTC table Go to Diagnostic Aids 5 1. Check for a short to voltage in the HO2S Signal circuit. 2. If a problem is found, repair the circuit as necessary. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Electrical Diagnosis. Was the HO2S Signal circuit shorted? — Go to Step 8 Go to Step 7 6 Replace the HO2S. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Replacement . Is the action complete? — Go to Step 8 — 7 Replace the VCM. Important: When replacing the VCM, the new VCM will need to be programed. Refer to VCM Replacement/Programming . Is the action complete? — Go to Step 8 — 1. Use the scan tool in order to select the DTC and the Clear DTC Information functions.

Customer Concern: Check engine light is on for a code transmission P0715 (Input/Turbine Speed Sensor). Tests/Procedures: 1. Scope the signal at the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and watch for glitches while maneuvering the wire harness near the PCM connector. Potential Causes: Wiring Diagnostic Codes: P0715 Author: Guy Dibble Average Reported Mileage: 56000

1990-1994 Lexus LS400 How to Check Air Conditioning Diagnostic

download
1) First perform an indicator check to see if all the lights are working properly. Press and hold the AUTO & REC buttons and then start the car. Release the buttons after the car has started. All the lights should light up and go off 4 times in a row at one second intervals. You should also hear a beep as the indicators light up. After the indicators blink 4 times you’re in A/C diagnostic mode. 2) Read the code displayed on the LCD. Here you see a code 21; this can happen if you’re not in light because it refers to the solar sensor. 3) Here’s what normal will look like, code 00. When the codes are displayed they blink and beep. Here are all the codes that can be displayed……… Code – Meaning 00 – Normal 11 – Open or short in room temperature sensor circuit. 12 – Open or short in ambient temperature sensor circuit. 13 – Open or short in evaporator temperature sensor circuit. 14 – Open or short in water temperature sensor circuit. 21* – Open or short in solar sensor circuit. 22* – Compressor motor locked. And/or, open or short in compressor lock sensor circuit. 31 – Open or short in air mix damper position sensor circuit. 32 – Open or short in air inlet damper position sensor circuit. 33 – Open in air mix damper position sensor circuit. Or, open or short in air mix servomotor circuit. Or, air mix servomotor locked. 34 – Open in air inlet damper position sensor circuit. Or, open or short in air inlet sensor servomotor circuit. Or, air inlet servomotor locked. * – These are detected only when they are the current troubles. Other codes detect both current trouble (beep) and past trouble (no beep). A/C indicator light blinks – This means your A/C compressor is locked. It’s happened to me before and I needed a new (rebuilt) compressor installed. 4) Once you’ve read any codes you can proceed to performing an actuator check by pressing the REC button. This will start a check of different combinations for the system starting with code 20 and moving up to 29. To cancel this or the previous diagnostic modes simply press the OFF button.

With the ignition switch in the RUN position, test for battery voltage at the circuit fuse in the transmission solenoid power supply circuit. Refer to the appropriate SI Document for the transmission solenoid power supply circuit information. 2. If battery voltage is present at the fuse, inspect the ignition voltage circuit between the fuse and the transmission for possible opens. 3. If battery voltage is not present at the fuse, test for continuity between the fuse and the ignition switch. If NO ontinuity is between the fuse and the ignition switch, repair the open in that circuit. 4. If you have continuity between the fuse and the ignition switch, the most likely cause is the ignition switch. Replace the ignition switch using the appropriate Ignition Switch Replacement procedure in SI. Refer to group number 2.188 of the parts catalog for part description and usage of the ignition switch.
