SUBJECT: TIMING CONNECTOR LOCATION CHANGE MODELS: 1994 CHEVROLET AND GMC C/K TRUCKS WITH GASOLINE ENGINES The timing connector, which can be disconnected to return engine timing to base for adjustment purposes, has been moved from the engine compartment to inside the cab. This new location is not currently reflected in the Service or Owner’s Manual. The new location is under the dash directly below the glove compartment. The tan/black wire is routed for a short distance outside of a large wiring harness. This large harness is routed between the heater blower motor and evaporator case. The timing connector is taped to the wire bundle (Figure 1)

INITIAL VISUAL INSPECTION 1. Place the vehicle on a suitable lift. 2. Visually inspect the parking brake cable installation, parking brake caliper levers and general condition of the brakes. • Ensure the caliper levers are returning fully to their stops. • Confirm the cable routing is correct • Confirm that the cable is securely fixed at all abutment points and is free to move within the C-clip. • Where cable routing goes over the top of the stabilizer bar drop links, confirm that the stabilizer bar rubber deflector blocks are fitted, and that the brake cables have not been getting trapped behind the stabilizer bar drop links (look for tell-tale marks on the links and/or cables). NOTE: Global Technical Reference (GTR) lookup sequence is as follows: GTR Home > NAS > Model > Service Information > Model Year > Workshop Manual > 2: Chassis — Section 206: Brake System NOTE: Refer to the correct section by reference to VIN and based on whether the vehicle is fitted with high performance brakes or not. 3. Rectify any obvious faults. 4. If no obvious faults are found or further guidance is needed to rectify faults, please proceed to the next stage of this bulletin. PREPARE THE PARKING BRAKE FOR DETAILED INSPECTION CAUTION: Jaguar IDS DVD 111 or later and Midtronics PSC-550 Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during diagnosis. 1. Install the Midtronics PSC-550 Vehicle Power Supply to the vehicle. 2. Connect the IDS to the vehicle and begin a new diagnostic session by entering the correct VIN for the current vehicle. 3. Follow the IDS prompts to read the vehicle configuration. 4. Select ‘YES’ when prompted ‘Do you wish to read diagnostic trouble codes?’. 5. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task. 6. Select ‘Vehicle Configuration’ tab when the ‘Content Model’ is displayed. 7. Select ‘Electronic Parking Brake’. 8. Select ‘Release to Service Position’ (S-TYPE/XJ) or ‘Parking Brake Unjam Procedure’(XK) ‘. CAUTION: When using the special service tool, take care to operate in the ‘release’ direction. Figure 1-1 Spicer axles are identified with a manufacturing date and complete part numbers stamped on the right- hand tube. The part number may also appear on a metal tag attached to the cover plate by the cover screws, depending upon the requirements of the vehicle manufacturer. The part number, consisting of six digits reading from left to right, is the basic number for identifying the particular axle assembly. The seventh digit following the dash will identify ratio, differential, and end yoke options used in the assembly. The next group of numbers is the manufacturing date of the axle and is interpreted as follows. The first number is the month, the second number is the day of the month, the third number is the year, the fourth is the line that built the axle, and the letter is the shift. NOTE It is recommended that when referring to the axle, the complete part number and build date be obtained. To do this, it may be necessary to wipe or scrape off dirt, etc., from the axle housing. If the axle is unique on design such that the unit cannot be identified in the standard manner as described above, refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s service and/or parts manual for proper identification. SERVICING COMPONENTS NOT COVERED IN THIS MANUAL Service procedures for some components may not be covered in this manual because they are unique to the vehicle application. Refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s service manual for servicing those components. (e.g. brakes, hubs, rotors, and wheel end components). VEHICLE STORAGE OR PROLONGED INOPERATION If the vehicle has not been operated on a regular daily basis, it is recommended that the vehicle be operated at least once every two weeks. The vehicle should be moved far enough to cause the drivetrain components to make several complete revolutions. This procedure will help assure that all internal components receive adequate amount of lubrication to help reduce component deterioration caused by an undesirable environment (e.g. high humidity).
