Tighten Tighten the bracket mounting bolt to 12 N?m (106 lb in). Connect the vent valve pipe to the EVAP canister. • Install the two vent valve pipe clips into the existing underbody holes. • Connect the EVAP canister vent valve electrical connector, if equipped. • Attach bulk 5/8″ heater hose to the vent valve port and secure using a clamp. Run a length as needed along the frame rail routing to the area above the transmission. • Cut the hose to determined length and install the supplied filter box. Secure using a clamp. • Remove the transmission support and lower the transmission assembly as necessary to allow for access to the new filter box location using a tie strap. DO NOT pinch or restrict the transmission vent hose. The filter box opening should be pointing downward. • Raise the transmission and reinstall the transmission support. • Tie strap the hose as needed along the frame rail in order to keep the hose away from pinch*points and heat sources. • Lower the vehicle. • 2004-2007 Model Year (Use Service Kit P/N 19152349) Raise the vehicle. Suitably support the vehicle. • Disconnect the EVAP canister vent valve electrical connector. • Disconnect the canister pipe from the vent valve. • Push in the retainer and remove the existing canister vent valve from the fuel tank clip or mounting bracket. Discard the old valve. • Cut back the existing canister pipe approximately 51 mm (2 in) to remove the quick connect end. Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Vent Solenoid Valve Replacement Pickup Removal Procedure Important Clean the evaporative emission (EVAP) connections and surrounding areas prior to disconnecting the fittings in order to avoid possible system contamination. 1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information. 2. Remove the harness clip from the canister vent solenoid (CVS) line. 3. Disconnect the CVS electrical connector. 2004 Chevrolet Chevy K Silverado – 4WD 4. If the vehicle is equipped with a 6 ft box, disconnect the EVAP CVS line from the canister. 5. Remove the CVS clip from the frame crossmember. 6. Push in the retainer and remove the CVS from the fuel tank clip. 7. If the vehicle is equipped with a 8 ft box, disconnect the EVAP CVS line from the canister. 8. Remove the CVS clip from the frame crossmember. 9. Push in the retainer and remove the CVS from the fuel tank clip. Installation Procedure 1. If the vehicle is equipped with a 8 ft box, install the CVS to the fuel tank until the clip engages. Important On vehicles equipped with a 8 ft box, the CVS line is routed below the frame crossmember. 2. Install the CVS clip to the frame crossmember. 3. Connect the EVAP CVS line to the canister. 4. If the vehicle is equipped with a 6 ft box, install the CVS to the fuel tank until the clip engages. Important On vehicles equipped with a 6 ft box, the CVS line is routed above the frame crossmember. 5. Install the CVS clip to the frame crossmember. 6. Connect the EVAP CVS line to the canister. 7. Connect the CVS electrical connector. 8. Install the harness clip to the canister vent solenoid (CVS) line. 9. Lower the vehicle.

Removal Procedure 1. Remove the steering linkage shield. Refer to Steering Linkage Shield Replacement in Steering Linkage. Important: Have a drain pan ready for the engine oil to drain into. 2. Remove the bolt attaching the engine oil cooler lines to the remote (frame mounted) oil filter adapter. 3. Remove and discard the seals. 4. Remove the engine oil cooler line retaining rings from the engine oil cooler line quick connectors at the radiator engine oil cooler inlet and outlet. Follow the next two steps for the proper retaining ring removal procedure. 5. Using a bent-tip screwdriver or equivalent, pull on one of the open ends of the retaining ring in order to rotate the retaining ring. 6. Rotate the retaining ring around the quick connector until the retaining ring is out of position and can be completely removed. Discard the retaining rings. 7. Remove the engine oil cooler lines from the quick connectors at the radiator engine oil cooler inlet and outlet. Pull the lines straight out from the connectors. 8. Remove the remote engine oil filter lines support clamp bolt. Important: Have a drain pan ready for the engine oil to drain into. 9. Remove the bolt attaching the remote engine oil filter lines to the remote (frame mounted) engine oil filter adapter. 10. Hold the remote engine oil filter lines below the remote engine oil filter lines (engine mounted) adapter to drain the engine oil. 11. Remove and discard the seals. 12. Remove the bolt attaching the remote engine oil filter lines to the remote engine oil filter lines (engine mounted) adapter. 13. Remove and discard the seals. 14. Clean all of the components in a suitable solvent, and dry them with compressed air. 15. Inspect the fittings, the connectors, the cooler lines, the cooler, the filter lines, and the remote filter adapter for damage, distortion, or restriction. Replace parts as necessary. 16. Flush the engine oil cooler, the engine oil cooler lines, the remote engine oil filter adapter, and the remote engine oil filter lines with the same type of engine oil normally circulating through the engine. 1. Disconnect engine coolant temperature sensor electrical connector and inspect sensor and connector terminals for corrosion and/or evidence of engine coolant. ^If terminals are corroded or if there is evidence of engine coolant proceed to step 4. ^If terminals are not corroded and there is no evidence of engine coolant, reconnect the electrical connector and continue to next step. 2. Perform one or both of the following checks to determine whether the engine coolant temperature sensor is providing the correct temperature indication. If engine coolant temperature sensor reading does not pass either of the above tests, continue with next step. ^If engine is at ambient temperature (vehicle has been sitting overnight or not started for several hours), use a Scan tool to compare the inlet air temperature ( IAT ) to the engine coolant temperature ( ECT ). These two readings should be within 2°C (4°F) of each other. ^If engine is at operating temperature, install a thermometer in the coolant recovery reservoir. With the engine running and A/C off, use a Scan tool to compare the engine coolant temperature sensor reading to the thermometer reading. These two readings should be within 8°C (15°F) of each other If engine coolant temperature sensor reading passes both of the tests above, refer to appropriate symptom diagnostic chart in the Engine/Emissions Controls Section of applicable Engine Service Manual. 3. Turn ignition off. 4Remove coolant surge tank cap. 5. Drain at least 1.9 L (2 Qt.) of engine coolant from the cooling system by opening radiator drain valve or removing engine drain plug. Collect engine coolant in a container. 6. Disconnect engine coolant temperature sensor electrical connector. 7. Remove engine coolant temperature sensor from cylinder head. 8. Obtain replacement engine coolant temperature sensor (P/N 21025106). 9. Use appropriate tap to clean sensor mounting hole of any thread sealant residue. 10. Install engine coolant temperature sensor in cylinder head. Torque: Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor: 8 Nm (71 in-lbs) 11. Inspect harness connector terminals for corrosion and/or evidence of engine coolant. If harness connector terminals are corroded or there is evidence of engine coolant, the harness connector must be replaced with new connector (P/N 12117087-includes: connector, terminals, wires, and splice sleeves). 12. Connect engine coolant temperature sensor connector. 13. Transfer engine coolant drained in step 5 into coolant surge tank. If necessary fill coolant surge tank to the FULL COLD range with 50/50 solution of correct type of antifreeze and clean water. 14. Start engine and check for leaks. 15. Run engine until upper radiator hose is hot, then add additional coolant if needed to bring the level to the FULL COLD level (1991-early 1997) or within the Min./Max. cold range (late l997-2001). 16. Install coolant surge tank cap.

TROUBLE SHOOTING NOTE: See TROUBLE SHOOTING – BASIC PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. 1) If a no-start condition exists and battery is known to be good, connect test light or voltmeter between starter solenoid terminal No. 50 and ground. See Figs. 6 and 7. 2) Turn ignition switch to START position. If test light or voltmeter does not indicate voltage, check main fusible links and large ampere main fuses in engine compartment relay box. If fusible links and fuses are okay, see IGNITION SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST and/or STARTER RELAY TEST under ON-VEHICLE TESTING. ON-VEHICLE TESTING NOTE: Before testing, ensure battery is fully charged, battery cables and terminal ends are tight and clean, and engine grounds are secure. CLUTCH START SWITCH TEST 1) Switch is located above clutch pedal on bracket. Disconnect wiring harness connector from switch. 2) Connect ohmmeter probes to switch terminals. Depress clutch pedal. If continuity does not exist, adjust or replace clutch start switch. If continuity exists, check circuit to starter relay for open, and check starter relay. See STARTER RELAY TEST. CLUTCH START CANCEL SWITCH TEST 1) Locate switch in left dash panel. Remove right lower instrument panel to access switch connector. Disconnect wiring harness connector from switch pigtail connector. See Fig. 1. 2) Connect negative lead of ohmmeter to terminal No. 1. Ensure continuity does not exist between connector terminals No. 1 and 2, terminals No. 1 and 3, and terminals No. 2 and 3. Check operation of switch by connecting jumper wires from 12-volt battery. Connect positive lead to terminal No. 3 and negative battery lead to terminal No. 1. 3) Using ohmmeter, ensure continuity does not exist between connector terminals No. 1 and 2 until switch button is pushed. When switch button is pushed, switch light should come on and continuity should exist. Disconnect battery and ensure continuity does not exit between terminals No. 1 and 2. IGNITION SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. For 1996 4Runner, see AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. 1995 1) Disconnect negative battery cable. Removedriver’s lower instrument panel cover. Remove upper and lower steering column covers if needed. Locate ignition switch wiring harness 8-pin connector. See Figs. 2-3. 2) With ignition switch in LOCK position, there should be no continuity between any terminals. With ignition switch in ACC position, there should be continuity between terminals No. 2 and 3. With ignition switch in ON position, there should be continuity between terminals No. 1, 2 and 3, and between terminals No. 7 and 8. 3) With ignition switch in START position, there should be continuity between terminals No. 1, 4 and 6, and between terminals No. 7 and 8. If continuity is not as specified, replace switch.

ALL WINDOWS INOPERATIVE 1. Check power window system circuit breaker and fuse. See TROUBLE SHOOTING . Replace components as necessary. If components are okay, go to next step. 2. Remove driver’s power window switch. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition on. Using test light, connect ground lead to harness connector terminal No. 13 (Black/Brown wire). Check for voltage by touching test light probe to harness connector terminals No. 9, 11 and 14 (all White/Pink wires). 3. If test light does not illuminate, check power and ground circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If test light illuminates, ground circuit and power circuit between battery and switch are okay. Check switch and motor. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH and POWER WINDOW MOTOR under COMPONENT TESTS. COMPONENT TESTS VENT WINDOW MOTOR 1. Remove “D” pillar trim panel. See “D” PILLAR TRIM PANEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. 2. Disconnect power vent window motor wire connector from body harness. 3. Using 2 jumper wires, connect one to a battery (+) source and the other to a good ground (-). 4. Connect the negative (-) jumper probe to one of the motor connector terminals. 5. Momentarily touch the positive (+) jumper probe to the other motor connector terminal. When the positive probe is connected, the motor should rotate in one direction to either move window open of closed. If window is all the way open or closed the motor will grunt and the crank system will flex when actuated in the one direction. Reverse jumper probes at the motor connector terminals and window should now move in the opposite position to verify full operation. If motor grunts and does not move with the motor connected in both directions, verify that crank system is not binding. POWER WINDOW MOTOR 1. Remove door trim panel and sound pad. See DOOR TRIM PANEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. 2. Disconnect power window motor wire connector from door harness. 3. Using 2 jumper wires, connect one to a battery (+) source and the other to a good ground (-). 4. Connect the negative (-) jumper probe to one of the motor connector terminals. POWER WINDOW SWITCH 1. Remove window switch from door trim panel. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using an ohmmeter, check switch continuity. See appropriate WINDOW SWITCH CONTINUITY table. See Fig. 1 or Fig. 2 . 2. If the results are NOT OK, replace the drivers side window lift switch. 3. Test passenger door switch for continuity. 4. If the results are not OK, replace the switch. The power window master switch has a Auto-Down feature. The switch is equipped with 2 detent positions when actuating the power window OPEN. The first detent position allows the window to roll down and stop when the switch is released. The second detent position actuates an integral express roll down relay that rolls the window down after the switch is released. When the express down circuit senses stall current (window has reached end of down travel), the switch will turn current off to the motor. The AUTO feature can be cancelled by actuating the switch UP or DOWN while window is in motion. If the electronic circuit in the switch fails to detect a stall current, the auto down circuit will time out within 9 to 13 seconds.

REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Remove the door panel. Refer to section 20 of the 1996-00 Civic Service Manual. 2. Remove the armrest bracket, then pull down the plastic cover to gain access to the window regulator. 3. Carefully move the glass until you can see the glass mounting bolts, then loosen them. Slide the guide rearward, remove the glass from the guide, and carefully pull the glass out through the window slot. 4. Check the year and VIN. If the vehicle is a 1996 or 1997 within the affected VIN range, replace the window regulator. Go to step 5. If the vehicle is not a 1996 or 1997 within the affected VIN range, go to step 8. 5. Remove the two roller guide bolts and the two rear regulator mounting bolts; then remove the front regulator mounting bolts. 6. Disconnect the power window motor connector, and detach the harness clip (if applicable); then lift and remove the regulator through the opening in the door. 7. Install the new regulator in the door, then loosely install the two rear mounting bolts and the two roller guide bolts. Do not tighten the two front mounting bolts yet. Go to step 9. 8. Loosen the window regulator’s two rear mounting bolts, two front mounting bolts, and two roller guide bolts

A/T Interlock System Circuit Diagram SHIFT LOCK SYSTEM CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING 1. Press the brake pedal. Are the brake lights ON? YES -Go to step 2. NO -Repair faulty brake light circuit. 2. Connect the HDS to the DLC. Check engine speed and throttle position in the A/T data list. Is the engine speed at idle, and TPS about 0.5 V? YES -Go to step 3. NO -Repair engine speed or throttle position input. 3. Select SHIFT LOCK SOL TEST in MISC. TEST MENU, then carry out shift lock solenoid function test. Does the shift lock solenoid work properly? YES -System circuit is OK. Check the shift lock mechanism, if necessary. NO -Go to step 4. 4. Remove the center console (See CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ). 5. Disconnect the shift lock solenoid connector. 6. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). 7. Measure the voltage between No. 1 terminal of the shift lock solenoid connector and body ground. Fig. 3: Measuring Voltage Between No. 1 Terminal Of Shift Lock Solenoid Connector & Body Ground Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 8. NO -Check for blown No. 21 fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box. If the fuse is OK, repair open in the wire between the shift lock solenoid connector and the under-dash fuse/relay box. 8. Shift the shift lever into the P position, and press the brake pedal. Do not press the accelerator. 9. Measure the voltage between shift lock solenoid connector terminals while pressing the brake pedal Fig. 4: Measuring Voltage Between Shift Lock Solenoid Connector Terminals Is there battery voltage? YES -Check the shift lock mechanism. If the mechanism is OK, replace the shift lock solenoid (see Shift Lock Solenoid Replacement ). NO -Check for poor or loose PCM connector terminal E2 at the PCM, and check for an open in the wire between PCM connector terminal E2 and shift lock solenoid connector. If the connection and wire is OK, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck. KEY INTERLOCK SYSTEM CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING

Take your DMM, set it to measure Ohms (use the 20k setting.) Measure the resistance across the pellet of the ignition key. Place one probe on the silver part of one side of the pellet, and the other probe on the other side. Write this value down. 2. Purchase a resistor or resistors that add up to the value measured in step 1. Radio Shack is a great place to go for the resistors, heat shrink tubing, and the “bullet-style” solderless connectors. 3. Take the 16 ga. wire and cut into 2 four-inch pieces. 4. Strip off approx 1/16″ of insulation off each side of both wire pieces. 5. Put your resistors together in series (or if you’re lucky and have a chip that has a resistance that matches a single resistor) and solder one wire to one end of the resistor(s) and the other wire to the other side. Example: You measure 11.72 on the 20k (k meaning kilo or 1,000) scale. The closest match is 11.801 which is a #15 “chip.” Always remember that resistors have a tolerance of 2%, meaning the resistance value of the “pellet” can be either 2% higher or 2% lower than 11.801 k ohms (11.72 falls in tolerance range.) You will want to aim for 11,801 ohms. So when you go to Radio Shack you want to pick up a 10,000 ohm (10k,) a 1,000 ohm (1k,) and an 800 ohm resistors to wire together in series to achieve the 11.801k ohm value.
