CONSOLES CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION 1. M/T model: Remove the shift knob (A). a. Lower the shift lever boot (B) to release the hook (C) from the knob. b. Remove the shift knob. Fig. 34: Removing The Shift Knob 2. Detach the clips (A, B) by pulling the center console front panel (C) up, If equipped, disconnect the seat heater switch connectors (D). Fig. 35: Detaching The Clips 3. Pry up on the left of the console pocket (A) with a flat-tip screwdriver wrapped with a shop towel, and detach the clips, then remove the pocket. Fig. 36: Removing The Pocket 4. Remove the screws (A), detach the clips (B) and hook (C) by pulling the center holder (D) up, and disconnect the front accessory power socket connector (E) Fig. 37: Disconnecting The Front Accessory Power Socket Connector 5. Detach the clips (A, B) by pulling the center console rear panel (C) up Fig. 38: Detaching The Clips 6. Remove the center console (A). a. Open the console box lid (B) then remove the console mat (C). b. If equipped, disconnect the rear accessory power socket connector (D), and detach the clip (E). c. Remove the screws (F, G), then pull the rear portion of the console up to release the hooks (H), then remove it.

1. Unscrew the shift knob by rotating it counter clockwise and put it in a safe place for re-install later. 2. Pull the shift boot up over the plastic shift boot retainer. 3. Pull up the shift boot console from both sides to pop it off the center console, do not remove it at this time simply pop it off the main console Continue the shift boot console removal by pulling on the plastic part that goes up the sides of the climate controls as shown. These parts need to be pulled off with some force but are left in place for now, just disconnect them. 5. With the side plastic pieces popped free you now have access to a Phillips head screw on each side of the console. Remove these screws using a Phillips head screwdriver. Put the screws aside in a safe place for re-install later. 6. Disconnect the white clip for the lighter under the shift boot console by pulling down on the white plastic part Remove the shift boot console from the car and put it aside in a safe place for re-install later. 8. Open the center storage compartment. Using a flat head screwdriver, pry up on the middle part of the center console as shown on the pictures to the left. There are grooves where a flat head screwdriver can be inserted to pry up. Slide the e-brake boot over the e- brake lever as shown to the left. 10. Remove the middle part of the center console as pictured to the left. Put it aside in a safe place for re-install later. 11. Remove the small mat from the center compartment to gain access to the two 10mm bolts at the bottom of the compartment. You can unbolt these using a 10mm socket with a ratchet and a ratchet extension. Place the two bolts aside in a safe place for re-install later

POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) Removal & Installation 1. The PCM is located between driver’s side front fender and power distribution center, near battery. See Fig. 1 . Disconnect negative battery cable and then positive battery cable from battery. 2. Remove bolts on side of power distribution center that secure power distribution center to mounting bracket. Remove heat shield from outside of battery. Remove battery. 3. Rotate power distribution center toward the engine to disengage power distribution center from rear mounting bracket. Pull power distribution center toward rear of vehicle to disengage power distribution center from front mounting bracket. 4. Allow power distribution center to lay aside for access to PCM. Remove electrical connectors from PCM. Electrical connectors may be removed by squeezing tabs on electrical connector together and pulling electrical connector from PCM. Remove bolts and PCM. To install, reverse removal procedure. Vehicles equipped with engine or transmission computers may require a relearn procedure after the vehicle battery is disconnected. Vehicle computers memorize and store vehicle operation patterns for optimum driveability and performance. When the vehicle battery is disconnected, this memory is lost. Default data is used until new data from each key start is stored. As the computer restores its memory from each new key start, driveability is restored. Driveability problems may occur during the relearn stage. Depending on the vehicle and how it is equipped, the following driveability problems may exist: z Rough or unstable idle. z Hesitation or stumble. z Rich or lean running. z Poor fuel mileage. z Harsh or poor transmission shift quality. To accelerate relearn process after battery removal and installation, vehicle should be road tested in the following manner: z Vehicle at normal operating temperature (cooling fan cycles). z Accelerate at normal throttle position (20-50%). z Cruise at light to medium throttle. z Decelerate to a stop, downshifting and using brakes normally. Manufacturers identify specific relearn procedures. See RELEARN PROCEDURES. Always complete the procedure before returning the vehicle to the owner. RELEARN PROCEDURES Theft Alarm Relearn Procedure 1. Theft alarm relearn is necessary whenever battery is disconnected or dead battery is boosted. If battery is connected or boosted without conducting relearn procedure, alarm system will enter power-up mode and vehicle will not start. 2. Before reconnecting battery or connecting booster, insert door key into driver side door lock

1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301) . 2. Remove two console armrest mounting access covers (047A62) at rear of console panel (045A36) (snaps out) to gain access to armrest retaining bolts. 3. Remove four armrest-to-floor bracket retaining bolts and remove armrest assembly (snaps out of console). 4. Remove console panel gear shift plate (044G24) (snaps out). On vehicles equipped with manual transmissions, shift boot is attached to bottom of finish panel. Remove shift knob and slide boot and console panel gear shift plate up shift lever to remove. 5. To remove top finish panel position emergency brake lever in the UP position. Remove four retaining screws and lift top finish panel up. Disconnect necessary wire connectors. 6. Remove two console-to-rear floor bracket retaining screws. 7. Insert a small screwdriver into two notches at bottom of front upper finish panel and snap out. 8. If the vehicle has a radio chassis (18806) , the radio chassis must be removed. Refer to Section 15-01 . If the vehicle doesn’t have a radio chassis , use a small screwdriver and pry radio cover finish panel out of console. 9. Flex glove compartment bin tabs inward. Drop down glove compartment (06010) assembly. Remove two console-to-instrument panel retaining screws. 10. Remove four console bracket retaining screws. Remove console panel from vehicle. 11. Remove three bolts retaining steering column opening cover (3A673) and reinforcement panel. Remove cover. 12. Remove steering column opening reinforcement by removing two bolts. 13. Remove two bolts retaining steering column opening reinforcement and remove reinforcement. 14. Remove six steering column retaining nuts (two retaining the hood release mechanism and four retaining column to lower brake pedal support). Lower steering column to floor. 15. Remove upper and lower steering column shrouds (3530) and disconnect wiring from turn signal and windshield wiper switch (13K359) . 16. Remove steering column through bolt and nut on engine compartment side of cowl panel. Remove steering column from vehicle. 17. Remove brake pedal support nut. 18. Snap out instrument panel defroster opening grille (044E82) . 19. Remove screws from speaker covers. Snap out speaker covers. 20. Remove front screws retaining RH and LH scuff plates at cowl side trim panels. 21. Remove RH and LH cowl side trim panels. 22. Disconnect wiring at RH cowl side. 23. Remove cowl side retaining bolts (one each side) . 24. Remove five cowl top screws attachments. 25. Gently pull instrument panel (04320) away from RH side of cowl panel. Disconnect speedometer cable, air conditioning controls and wire connectors. 26. Place a drain pan or suitable container under the heater water hose connections at the cowl panel. 27. Disconnect heater water hoses (18472) from heater core tubes and plug heater water hoses with suitable 5/8-inch and 3/4-inch plugs. Cap heater core tubes to prevent coolant loss from heater core (18476) during removal of heater case. 28. Remove screw retaining A/C evaporator case support bracket (19A639) to cowl top panel. 29. Disconnect vacuum supply supply hose (black) from A/C vacuum supply in engine compartment.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION FRONT DISC BRAKE PADS Removal & Installation 1. Raise and support front of vehicle. Remove front wheel assemblies. Remove lower lock pin/guide bolt. See Fig. 2 . Pivot caliper upward and support using rope. 2. Remove pads, shims, guide plates or pad guides and “V” springs (if equipped). Replace pad if lining thickness is less than specified. See MINIMUM PAD LINING SPECIFICATIONS (FRONT) table. 3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Use Disc Brake Expander (49-0221-600C) and an old pad to push piston fully inward to install disc pads. Fig. 2: Exploded View Of Front Brake Disc Assembly Courtesy of MAZDA MOTORS CORP. MINIMUM PAD LINING SPECIFICATIONS (FRONT) Application Thickness In. (mm) MX-6, 626 FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER Removal & Installation Raise and support front of vehicle. Remove front wheel assemblies and disconnect brake hose. Plug all openings. Remove front disc brake pads. See FRONT DISC BRAKE PADS . Remove remaining mounting bolt(s). Remove caliper from vehicle. To install, reverse removal procedure. Bleed air from system. FRONT BRAKE ROTOR Removal & Installation 1. Raise and support front of vehicle. Remove front wheel assemblies. Remove front disc brake caliper with brake hose connected. See FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER . Wire caliper aside. Remove rotor-to-hub screws (if equipped). Remove rotor. 2. Machine rotor if lateral runout exceeds specification. Replace rotor if measured thickness is less than specified minimum thickness. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS table. To install, reverse removal procedure. REAR DISC BRAKE PADS Removal & Installation 1. Raise and support rear of vehicle. Remove rear wheel assemblies. Release parking brake and disconnect parking brake cable from caliper. Remove manual adjustment gear concealment plug from caliper. See Fig. 3 . Insert an appropriate size Allen wrench through hole and turn manual adjustment gear counterclockwise to retract caliper piston. 2. Remove upper guide bolt from caliper. Rotate caliper downward and support using wire. Remove “M” springs. Remove pads, shims and guide plates. Replace pad if lining thickness is less than .04″ (1.0 mm). 3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Turn manual adjustment gear clockwise until brake pads slightly touch rotor. Turn manual adjustment gear back 1/3 turn.

Removal Procedure 1. Remove the horseshoe clip (1) from front of shift control knob, and remove knob. 2. Remove the Console Trim Plate. 3. Remove the console wiring harness. 4. Remove the console shift control wiring harness. 5. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable. 6. Remove the park/lock cable. 7. Remove the console shift control nuts. 8. Remove the console shift control. Installation Procedure 1. Install the console shift control. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. 2. Install the console shift control nuts. ^Tighten the console shift control nuts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) . 3. install the park/lock cable. 4. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable. 5. Install the console shift control wiring harness. 6. Install the console wiring harness. 7. Install the Console Trim Plate. 8. Adjust the transaxle range selector cable.

1998 – 2000 MODELS 1. Inspect main ground points (refer to SB99*04*S001 for more information). * P6 ground point-body [on the passenger side of engine compartment, between the battery and cruise control actuator (if equipped)]. (Figure Fig. 1 ) * P10 ground point-engine (at the alternator bracket) . (Figure Fig. 2 ) Isuzu: 1998 – 2000 Rodeo AFFECTED VEHICLES:1998 – 2000 Rodeo (UE)/Amigo (UA) models with 3.2L V6 engines NOTE: Please refer to the appropriate workshop manual for the correct diagnosing procedure and/or follow the service procedures outlined in this bulletin for the vehicle being serviced. NOTE: The 1998, 1999 or 2000 Rodeo/Amigo Electrical Troubleshooting Manual can assist in locating the vehicle ground distribution (i.e., ground contact points). * Perform a voltage drop test at the main ground points. * If the voltage drop test fails, then inspect and clean both the bolt and contact point. * Verify and correct idle settings (if needed) as described in the workshop manual. * If the repair procedure on this step solves the high idle condition, then return the vehicle to the customer. If the repair procedure on this step does not solve the high idle condition, then go to step 2 (16 pin Blue Connector). B. Remove P-6/P-10 ground terminal and bolt for ground contact inspection. * Inspect ground contact area for corrosion. * Inspect bolt and thread for damage or corrosion. * Clean the ground area and fastening bolt thoroughly with a wire brush. * Replace bolt if damaged or heavily corroded. C. Install the P-6/P-10 ground terminal and bolt (tighten using hand tools only). * Torque the P-6/P-10 ground terminal bolt to (14 N.m) 10 lb.ft. 1998 – 1999 MODELS ONLY 2. Inspect the 16 pin blue connector, located under the power steering fluid reservoir for corrosion, bent, or damaged pins (specifically for the Throttle Position Sensor). (Figure Fig. 3 )
