SYMPTOM There is a vibration at idle or harsh engagement when shifting the transmission between between Park, Drive, and Reverse. PROBABLE CAUSE The front hydraulic engine mount may have deteriorated and torn. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work. DIAGNOSIS 1. Bring the engine up to operating temperature, and fully apply the parking brake. 2. Have an assistant view the top of the front engine mount while standing to the side of the vehicle. Shift the transmission to Drive. With your foot firmly on the brake pedal, quickly depress the accelerator pedal and release it. Your assistant should look for contact between the top of the engine mount and the bottom of the front engine mount bracket, and listen for noise from that area. REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Drive the vehicle onto a lift, but do not raise it. 2. Odyssey – Remove the intake manifold cover and the front ignition coil cover: •See page 9-4 of the 1999-04 Odyssey Service Manual. •Online, enter keyword INTAKE , and select Intake Manifold Removal and Installation from the list. 3. Before you update an ECM/PCM, make sure the battery in the vehicle is fully charged. •To prevent ECM/PCM damage, do not operate anything electrical (audio system, brakes, A/C, power windows, moonroof, etc.) during the update. 1. If not already done, load the May 2004 or later i N CD onto the i N master terminal. Loading instructions are included with the CD. 2. Update the ECM/PCM software with the HIM. For updating instructions, refer to Programming the HIM and Updating an ECM/PCM With a Programmed HIM in Service Bulletin 01-023, Updating Control Units/Modules . 3. Warm up the engine to operating temperature, then shut if off. 4. Do the ECM/PCM RESET and the CKP PATTERN CLEAR with the HDS. Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure: •Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio, rear window defogger, lights, etc.) are off. •Turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position for 30 seconds. •Start the engine, and let it idle (throttle closed and all electrical items off) for 10 minutes. 6. Do the low-rpm CKP pattern learn: •Test-drive the vehicle on a level road: With the A/T in second gear, or the M/T in second or third gear, decelerate (with the throttle fully closed) from 2,500 rpm down to 1,000 rpm . •Stop the vehicle, and put the transmission into Park or Neutral. Set the parking brake. Do not turn off the ignition switch. 7. Connect the HDS to the DLC, and check the status of PULSER F/B LEARN: •On the Selection Menu , select PGM-FI . •On the Mode Menu , select Data List . •Check the value of PULSER F/B LEARN . •If the value is Completed , go to step 7. •If the value is Not Completed , be sure the engine is at normal operating temperature (the ECT SENSOR (1) value is 176 or higher), and return to step 5. 8. Do the high-rpm CKP pattern learn: NOTE: The low-rpm CKP pattern learn must be completed before you do the high-rpm CKP pattern learn. •Test-drive the vehicle on a level road: With the A/T in first gear, or the M/T in first gear, decelerate (with the throttle fully closed) from 5,000 rpm down to 3,000 rpm . •Stop the vehicle, and put the transmission into Park or Neutral. Set the parking brake. Do not turn off the ignition switch. 9. Connect the HDS to the DLC (if not already connected), and do this: •On the Selection Menu , select PGM-FI . •On the Mode Menu , select Data List . 10. Check the value of PULSER F/B LEARN (HIGH RPM) •If the value is Completed , you are finished. Disconnect the HDS. •If the value is Not Completed , be sure the engine is at normal operating temperature (the ECT SENSOR (1) value is 176 or higher), and repeat steps 5 thru 8

Removal 1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio, then write down the customer’s radio station presets. 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery first, then disconnect the positive cable. 3. Disconnect the knock sensor connector. 4. K20A3 engine: Disconnect the bolt securing the harness bracket. 5. K20A2, K20Z1 engines: Remove the front subframe damper. 6. K20A2, K20Z1 engines: Remove the bolt (A) securing the harness bracket, then remove the intake manifold brackets (B) 7. Disconnect the starter cable (A) from the B terminal on the solenoid, then disconnect the BLK/WHT wire (B) from the S terminal. 8. Remove the two bolts holding the starter, then remove the starter. K20A3 engine K20A2, K20Z1 engines Installation 1. Install the two bolts holding the starter. 2. Connect the starter cable (A) from the B terminal on the solenoid, then connect the BLK/WHT wire (B) from the S terminal. Make sure the crimped side of the ring terminal is facing out. REPAIR PROCEDURE: 2002-04 MODELS 1. Replace the rear differential fluid: •Refer to page 15-13 of the 2002-04 CR-V Service Manual , or •Online, enter keywords REAR DIFF, and select Rear Differential Fluid Inspection and Replacement (4WD) from the list. 2. Raise the vehicle on a lift until all four wheels are completely off the ground and can rotate freely. 3. Start the engine, and let it idle until the radiator fan cycles on and off twice. 4. Burnish the rear differential clutches: Automatic transmission models – •Set the parking brake, and shift the transmission to D. Let the engine idle for 5 minutes. •With the shift lever in D, release the parking brake, keep the wheel speed at 10 mph, and let all four wheels rotate freely for 5 minutes. •Apply the brakes to stop the wheels, repeat the bulleted steps one more time, then go to step 5. Manual transmission models – •With the engine idling and the parking brake released, shift the transmission into 1st, release the clutch, and let the wheels rotate for 5 minutes. •Disengage the clutch, and apply the brakes to stop the wheels. Shift the transmission into reverse, release the clutch, and let the wheels rotate for 5 minutes. •Shift the transmission into neutral, then apply the brakes to stop the wheels. •Repeat the bulleted steps one more time, then go to step 5. 5. Shift the transmission to P (A/T) or neutral (M/T), and turn off the engine. 6. Let the rear differential cool for 10 minutes

PROCEDURE FOR 2003 ESCORT ZX2 PROCEDURES FOR 1997-2002 ESCORT, ESCORT ZX2 AND TRACER ^DRIVEABILITY – IDLE VIBRATION – VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.0L SPI OR ZETEC ENGINE ONLY ^ENGINE – IDLE VIBRATION – VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.0L SPI OR ZETEC ENGINE ONLY 1. Neutralize engine mounts only. Refer to appropriate model year Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) Workshop Manual Section 100-04. 1. Shift the transaxle into Neutral and apply the parking brake. 2. Remove battery and battery tray. 3. Support engine with Three-Bar Engine Support Tool (Rotunda 303-D063) and Lifting Brackets (Rotunda 303-050). 4. Raise vehicle. Refer to the appropriate model year Workshop Manual, Section 100-02. Zoom Sized for Print 5. Remove the rear lower cross-member (attached with four (4) bolts (Figure 1)) 6. Remove the engine support cross-member that runs from front to rear of the engine (Belly Band). This can be accomplished by removing the front two (2) attaching bolts, the rear two (2) attaching nuts and the four (4) Engine Mount # 1 and # 2 nuts (Figure 1). 7. Modify the Belly Band on the two rear attaching Engine Mount # 1 holes by slotting the holes approximately 1/4″ (6 mm) in a front to rear direction. Use a Drill Bit (Figure 7). 8. Loosen the center bolt on the # 1 (rear) lower Engine Mount (Figure 4). 9. Loosen the center bolt on the # 2 (front) lower Engine Mount (Figure 4) 10. Remove original front and rear engine support cross-member bushings (Figure 3). Zoom Sized for Print a. Modify two (2) new Front-Upper Engine Support Cross-Member Bushings only (F7CZ-6A061-AA) by removing approximately 1/4″ (6 mm) of material from two (2) sides of the upper bushing. Use a utility knife or hack saw to achieve desired shape (Figure 2). b. Reinstall front attaching point of engine support cross-member with the original two (2) bolts, two (2) new Lower Bushings (F7CZ-6A061-BA), and two (2) new Upper Bushings (F7CZ-6A061-AA) that were modified in Step A (Figure 3). Apply 2-3 drops of threadlocker (EOAZ-19554-AA) to the bolts. c. Reinstall rear attaching point of engine support cross-member using new Bushings (F7CZ-6A061-BA and F7CZ-6A061-AA) and original nuts (Figure 3). Both rear position upper bushings must be installed in “AS IS” condition (UNMODIFIED). d. Torque the retaining nuts and bolts to 64-89 N.m (47-65 lb-ft.). 11. Reinstall the front attaching points of the Belly Band with the original two (2) bolts. Apply 2-3 drops of threadlocker (EOAZ-19554-AA) to the bolts (Figure 1). 12. Reinstall rear-attaching points of the Belly Band with original two (2) nuts (Figure 1). 13. Torque the retaining nuts and bolts to 64-89 N-m (47-65 lb-ft.)
