PROBABLE CAUSE The problem may have one or more of these causes: •TCM control unit programming is too sensitive. •The start clutch assembly is worn. •The start clutch control valve is contaminated. CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace the start clutch assembly, the start clutch control valve, and the TCM. Operation Number: 219167 Flat Rate Time: 6.0 hours Failed Part: P/N 22020-P4V-325 H/C 5192349 Defect Code: 034 Contention Code: C99 Template ID: 02-003A Skill Level: Repair Technician Out of warranty: Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work. REPAIR PROCEDURE NOTE: Make sure the work surface and the CVT are completely clean. Use lint-free towels, and use a dedicated, clean solvent tank for cleaning the CVT parts. If you do not keep everything very clean, the repair may not be successful. 1. Soak the new start clutch assembly in Honda ATF-Z1 for at least 30 minutes. 2. Remove the transmission from the vehicle. See page 14-304 of the 1996-00 Civic Service Manual. 3. Cover with clean shop towels all of the openings in the transmission and anything else that might get damaged by water and cleaning chemicals (axle openings, breather, and electrical connectors). Clean all the dirt and grease off of the transmission before you start disassembly

REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Remove the transmission. Refer to section 13 or 14 of the appropriate service manual. 2. Remove and discard the rear main oil seal (crankshaft oil seal). 3. Install the new oil seal. Refer to page 7 – 29 of the ’96-00 service manual or page 7-27 of the ’01 service manual. 4. Reinstall the transmission. 5. Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer. 6. Refill the transmission with the appropriate fluid. 7. 2001 models only. Do the idle learn procedure: Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio unit, defogger, lights, etc.) are turned off, then start the engine. Let the engine warm up to its normal operating temperature (the cooling fan cycles twice). Let the engine idle (throttle fully closed with all electrical items turned off) for 10 minutes. 8. 2001 2-door EX and LX models only. Drive the vehicle above 40 mph for 5 to 10 minutes with the cruise control on. (This lets the cruise control actuator learn how much slack there is in the throttle cable.)

SERVICE PROCEDURE You will be performing the following, as required: • Determine the DTC Stored in ECM from the CONSULT-II Self-diagnosis results. • ECM Part Number Check to determine if this bulletin applies. • ECM Reprogramming (required if the ECM P/N in the vehicle matches one of those listed under “Current ECM P/N” in Chart A -page 2). • Replacing the Rear Oxygen Sensor (required if ECM Reprogramming is needed). Determine the DTC Stored in ECM: 1. Determine which DTC code is stored in the vehicle’s ECM by performing CONSULT-II Self-Diagnosis. 2. Print out the Self-Diagnosis results for use in ECM Part Number Check , below. See Figure 1 for an example of the CONSULT-II Self-Diagnosis printout. Compare the vehicle’s current ECM P/N (from your CONSULT-II Self Diagnosis printout) to those shown under Current ECM P/N in Chart A , below: Chart A – Current ECM P/N’s: Vehicle Current ECM P/N 2000 M/T 23710-7J400, -7J401, -7J402, -7J460 2000 A/T 23710-7J410, -7J411, -7J412, 7J470 2001-2002 M/T 23710-6J105, -6J106, -6J107, -6J108, 6J170 2001-2002 A/T 23710-6J115, -6J116, -6J117, -6J118, -6J180 A. If the ECM P/N in the vehicle matches one of those listed under “Current ECM P/N” in Chart A (above): • Look in the “Vehicle” Column in Chart A (above) and determine the vehicle “configuration” (i.e. 2002 M/T). Make a note of the vehicle configuration and perform ECM Reprogramming , below. B. If the ECM P/N in the vehicle does not match one of those listed under “Current ECM P/N” in Chart A (above): • This bulletin does not apply. REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Remove the door panel. Refer to section 20 of the 1996-00 Civic Service Manual. 2. Remove the armrest bracket, then pull down the plastic cover to gain access to the window regulator. 3. Carefully move the glass until you can see the glass mounting bolts, then loosen them. Slide the guide rearward, remove the glass from the guide, and carefully pull the glass out through the window slot. 4. Check the year and VIN. If the vehicle is a 1996 or 1997 within the affected VIN range, replace the window regulator. Go to step 5. If the vehicle is not a 1996 or 1997 within the affected VIN range, go to step 8. 5. Remove the two roller guide bolts and the two rear regulator mounting bolts; then remove the front regulator mounting bolts. 6. Disconnect the power window motor connector, and detach the harness clip (if applicable); then lift and remove the regulator through the opening in the door. 7. Install the new regulator in the door, then loosely install the two rear mounting bolts and the two roller guide bolts. Do not tighten the two front mounting bolts yet. Go to step 9. 8. Loosen the window regulator’s two rear mounting bolts, two front mounting bolts, and two roller guide bolts

REPAIR PROCEDURE: 2002-04 MODELS 1. Replace the rear differential fluid: •Refer to page 15-13 of the 2002-04 CR-V Service Manual , or •Online, enter keywords REAR DIFF, and select Rear Differential Fluid Inspection and Replacement (4WD) from the list. 2. Raise the vehicle on a lift until all four wheels are completely off the ground and can rotate freely. 3. Start the engine, and let it idle until the radiator fan cycles on and off twice. 4. Burnish the rear differential clutches: Automatic transmission models – •Set the parking brake, and shift the transmission to D. Let the engine idle for 5 minutes. •With the shift lever in D, release the parking brake, keep the wheel speed at 10 mph, and let all four wheels rotate freely for 5 minutes. •Apply the brakes to stop the wheels, repeat the bulleted steps one more time, then go to step 5. Manual transmission models – •With the engine idling and the parking brake released, shift the transmission into 1st, release the clutch, and let the wheels rotate for 5 minutes. •Disengage the clutch, and apply the brakes to stop the wheels. Shift the transmission into reverse, release the clutch, and let the wheels rotate for 5 minutes. •Shift the transmission into neutral, then apply the brakes to stop the wheels. •Repeat the bulleted steps one more time, then go to step 5. 5. Shift the transmission to P (A/T) or neutral (M/T), and turn off the engine. 6. Let the rear differential cool for 10 minutes
