AIRFLOW MODE ACTUATOR INSPECTION Full-auto Air Conditioner 1. Connect battery positive voltage to terminal E or F and ground to terminal F or E of the airflow mode actuator. 2. Verify that the airflow mode actuator operates as shown. * If not as specified, replace the airflow mode actuator 3. Verify that the resistance between the terminals of the airflow mode actuator is as shown in the graph. * If not as specified, replace the airflow mode actuator. Manual Air Conditioner Operating inspection 1. Turn the fan switch to OFF. 2. Turn the mode dial to VENT. 3. Turn the ignition switch to ON position, (engine ON) 4. Turn the fan switch 4th position. 5. Turn the mode dial from VENT to DEFROSTER. 6. Verify that the airflow mode actuator moves smoothly. * If not as specified, inspect the airflow mode main link and sub link for clogging and deformity. * If the actuator cannot move at all, go to voltage inspection. Voltage inspection 1. Disconnect the airflow mode actuator connector. 2. Turn the ignition switch to ON position, (engine OFF) Zoom Sized for Print Zoom Sized for Print Zoom Sized for Print 3. Verify that the voltage between the terminals of airflow mode actuator (harness-side) is as shown in the table. * If not as specified, perform the harness inspection and mode switch inspection. If camshaft or camshaft position sensor damage resulting from a bent baffle is identified, repair the damage as necessary. 2. Make sure the vehicle is in “PARK” with the engine idling. 3. Using the right arrow key, toggle the VVTi actuator “ON.” 5. If at this point the vehicle does not run rough and/or stalls when the active test is performed, proceed with Repair Manual P1349 VVTi Fault Isolation Procedure (FIP). If the vehicle does stall and/or runs rough, this indicates the the VVTi control system is operating. Proceed to replace the VVTi actuator following the repair procedures listed on the Technical Information System (TIS): Engine Mechanical Section, Camshaft, Replacement The camshaft timing gear should come in the unlocked position from the factory. If it is difficult to install the camshaft timing gear, the lock pin may be engaged. To disengage the lock pin, apply and hold approximately 20 psi of air pressure at the oil feed hole located 90 degrees clockwise of the oval slot. (See Figure 1.) Once the pin has released, turn the interior assembly counterclockwise. (See black arrow in Figure 1.) B. Put the camshaft timing gear assembly and the camshaft together with the straight pin off the key groove. C. Turn the camshaft timing gear assembly (as shown in Figure 2) while pushing it lightly against the camshaft. Push further at the position where the pin fits into the groove. NOTE: Be sure not to turn the camshaft timing gear to the retard angle side (in the clockwise direction). D. Check that there is no clearance between the end of the camshaft and the camshaft timing gear. E. Tighten the camshaft bolt with the camshaft timing gear fixed. Torque: 54 Nm (551 kgfcm, 40 ftlbf) F. Check that the camshaft timing gear assembly can move to either side and is not locked

2. Install the J 34730-1A . 3. Loosen the fuel fill cap in order to relieve fuel tank vapor pressure. 4. Open the valve on the J 34730-1A in order to bleed the system pressure. The fuel connections are now safe for servicing. 5. Drain any fuel remaining in the gauge into an approved container. 6. Once the system pressure is completely relieved, remove the J 34730-1A . 7. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Important Clean the fuel filter connections and surrounding area before disconnecting the fuel lines in order to avoid possible fuel system contamination. 8. Using a flare nut wrench and a backup wrench, disconnect the fuel line fitting from the fuel filter. 9. Pull the quick-connect fitting back until the internal retainers hit the filter stop. 10. Twist one end of the J 46363 – Fuel Line Disconnect Tool and insert it between the quick-connect fitting and the filter. 11. Twist the opposite end of the J 46363 – Fuel Line Disconnect Tool and insert it between the quick-connect fitting and the filter. 12. Once the J 46363 – Fuel Line Disconnect Tool is inserted, ensure the tool is parallel to the filter and the fitting. 13. While holding the filter, push the quick-disconnect fitting towards the filter in order to disconnect the quick- connect fitting. 14. Remove the quick-connect fitting from the filter. 15. Remove the filter from the bracket. 16. Install the new fuel filter, P/N 15173334 or P/N 25164003 (A/C Delco P/N GF847), to the bracket. 17. While holding the filter, push the fitting towards the filter in order to connect the quick-connect fitting. 18. Using a flare nut wrench and a back up wrench, connect the fuel line fitting to the filter. 19. Position the fuel sensor bracket into place and install the two nuts. Tighten Tighten the two nuts to 17 N·m(13 lb ft). 20. Lower the vehicle. 21. Tighten the fuel cap. 22. Connect the negative battery cable.

Tie bonnet back in upright position. 3. Disconnect battery earth lead. 4. Remove engine acoustic cover. 5. Release HO2S multiplug from support bracket on LH camshaft cover, disconnect multiplug. 6. Remove bolt securing front pipe to bracket and remove front pipe. Discard gasket. 13. Remove 3 screws securing LH splash shield and remove shield 14. Release HO2S lead from clip on cylinder block. Remove 4 nuts securing exhaust manifold to cylinder head, remove manifold and discard gasket. 15. Drain fluid from IRD. 16. Drain gearbox fluid. 17. FitLRT-54-026 to the RH drive shaft inboard joint. 18. Using a suitable lever, release drive shaft from IRD. 19. With assistance, pull hub outwards and release drive shaft from IRD. CAUTION: Care must be taken not to damage oil seal when removing drive shaft from IRD. CAUTION: To avoid damage to gaiter or joint, do not allow shaft to hang on joint. 20. Remove LRT-54-026 from RH drive shaft inboard joint.

1999-2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2000-2002 CHEVROLET TAHOE, SUBURBAN 2002 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE 1999-2002 GMC SIERRA 2000-2002 GMC YUKON, YUKON XL LOCATED IN THE SEVERE CORROSION AREAS LISTED BELOW Service Procedure The following procedure provides instructions for repairing a corrosion condition where the front wheel speed sensor mounts on the front wheel bearing assembly. 1. Raise the vehicle on a suitable hoist and support as necessary. 2. Remove both front tires and wheels. 3. Compress the front brake caliper pistons. 3.1. Install a large C-clamp over the top of the caliper housing and against the back of the outboard pad. 3.2. Slowly tighten the C-clamp until the pistons are pushed completely into the caliper bores. 3.3. Remove the C-clamp from the caliper. Important: It is not necessary to remove the front brake caliper from the bracket when removing the bracket in the next step. 4. Remove the two bolts that attach the front brake caliper mounting brackets to the knuckle. Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic’s wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount, and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak. 5. Remove the brake caliper and bracket as an assembly and support it with heavy mechanic’s wire or equivalent. DO NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. 6. Mark the relationship of the rotor to the bearing hub. 7. If equipped, remove the rotor retaining push nuts from the wheel studs
