Using the right arrow key, toggle the VVTi actuator “ON.” 5. If at this point the vehicle does not run rough and/or stalls when the active test is performed, proceed with Repair Manual P1349 VVTi Fault Isolation Procedure (FIP). If the vehicle does stall and/or runs rough, this indicates the the VVTi control system is operating. Proceed to replace the VVTi actuator following the repair procedures listed on the Technical Information System (TIS): Engine Mechanical Section, Camshaft, Replacement The camshaft timing gear should come in the unlocked position from the factory. If it is difficult to install the camshaft timing gear, the lock pin may be engaged. To disengage the lock pin, apply and hold approximately 20 psi of air pressure at the oil feed hole located 90 degrees clockwise of the oval slot. (See Figure 1.) Once the pin has released, turn the interior assembly counterclockwise. (See black arrow in Figure 1.) B. Put the camshaft timing gear assembly and the camshaft together with the straight pin off the key groove. C. Turn the camshaft timing gear assembly (as shown in Figure 2) while pushing it lightly against the camshaft. Push further at the position where the pin fits into the groove. NOTE: Be sure not to turn the camshaft timing gear to the retard angle side (in the clockwise direction). D. Check that there is no clearance between the end of the camshaft and the camshaft timing gear. E. Tighten the camshaft bolt with the camshaft timing gear fixed. Torque: 54 Nm (551 kgfcm, 40 ftlbf) F. Check that the camshaft timing gear assembly can move to either side and is not locked

DISCONNECT PS PUMP FROM ENGINE a. Disconnect the 2 PS air hoses from the air intake chamber and resonator. b. Remove the bolt holding the PS pressure tube clamp to the frame. c. Remove the drive belt. d. Remove the bolt and nut, and disconnect the PS pump from the engine. 5. w/ A/C: DISCONNECT A/C COMPRESSOR FROM ENGINE a. Disconnect the A/C compressor connector. b. Remove the drive belt. c. Remove the 4 bolts, and disconnect the A/C compressor from the engine. 6. LOOSEN FAN WITH FLUID COUPLING AND FAN PULLEYS 7. REMOVE DRIVE BELT FOR GENERATOR 8. REMOVE NO.2 FAN SHROUD 9. REMOVE FAN WITH FLUID COUPLING AND FAN PULLEYS 10. w/ A/C: REMOVE A/C COMPRESSOR BRACKET Remove the 5 bolts and A/C compressor bracket. 11. DISCONNECT UPPER RADIATOR HOSE 12. REMOVE NO.2 TIMING BELT COVER a. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector from the No. 2 timing belt cover. b. Disconnect the 4 high-tension cord clamps from the No. 2 timing belt cover. c. Remove the 6 bolts and timing belt cover. 13. REMOVE FAN BRACKET a. Remove the nut and PS pump adjusting strut. b. Remove the bolt, nut and fan bracket. 14. SET NO. 1 CYLINDER AT TDC/COMPRESSION a. Turn the crankshaft pulley and align its groove with timing mark “0″ of the No. 1 timing belt cover. b. Check that the timing marks of the camshaft timing pulleys and No. 3 timing belt cover are aligned. If not, turn the crankshaft pulley 1 revolution (360°) . HINT: When re-using timing belt: Place the matchmarks on the timing belt and camshaft timing pulleys, and place matchmark on timing belt to match the end of the No. 1 timing belt cover. 15. REMOVE TIMING BELT TENSIONER Alternately loosen the 2 bolts, and remove them, the belt tensioner and dust boot. 16. REMOVE TIMING BELT

Door Does Not Lock in Full Open Position Full open stop latch assembly is damaged. Replace the full open stop latch assembly. Left Door Opens Half Way Fuel door half stopper cable damaged. Adjust the cable. Replace the cable, if damaged. Difficltto Open Dirty weatherstrip. Clean all soda spills or other sticky substances that may have accumulated on weatherstrip and door. Difficult to Open Manually Inside handle release button damaged. Replace inside handle release button assembly according to TSB No. BO027-00, “Sliding Door Handle Push Button Operation”. Door out of adjustment. Adjust levelness of the door, according to Repair Manual. Dragging Open/Close Mll Running board rubs against the bottom of the sliding door. Adjust running board to proper position and assure clearance from the door. Manually Roller rails have bent or warp condition. Dirt or debris in the rails and rollers. Clean rails and rollers. Replace damaged parts. CONDITION POSSIBLE CAUSE COMMON REPAIR Creak Noise Junction block, damaged components, and other issues Refer to TSB No. BO003-99, “Sliding Door Creak Noise Reduction.” Refer to the “Common Sources of Creak Noise” section of this bulletin for additional information for sources of creak noise. Rattle or Clicking (NOT Creak Noise) Door moving when driving over bumps Rollers loose or damaged Adjust lower roller base mounting to bring door closer to body (Refer to TIS, applicable model year Sienna Repair Manual, Vehicle Exterior – Door/Hatch – “Slide Door: Adjustment”). Adjust strikers to bring door closer to the body. Inspect the latch assembly and replace, if damaged. Replace damaged rollers. Noise During Open/Close Rollers or rails are damaged and/or dirty. Inspect, clean, and/or replace as needed

Remove the tweeter speakers and the stereo cassette AM/FM radio. Refer to Section 9F, Audio Systems. 5. Remove the screws and the instrument panel storage compartment. 6. Remove the instrument cluster dimmer switch assembly. 7. Remove the instrument cluster. 8. Remove the chime module. 9. Remove the kick panels. 10. Remove the glove box. 11. Remove the screws and the glove box housing. 12. Disconnect the glove box housing electrical connectors. 13. Remove the knee bolster. 14. Lower the steering column. 17. Remove the screw behind the stereo cassette AM/FM radio. 18. Remove the screw securing the instrument panel to the heater air distributor case. 19. Remove the instrument panel bolts below the windshield. 22. Remove the bolts securing the bottom of the instrument panel to the floor. 23. Remove the instrument panel. Installation Procedure 1. Position the instrument panel in the vehicle. 2. Connect the instrument panel electrical connectors. NOTE: Dissimilar metals in direct contact with each other may corrode rapidly. Make sure to use the correct fasteners to prevent premature corrosion. 3. Install the bolts securing the sides of the instrument panel to the body. Tighten Tighten the instrument panel-to-body bolts to 22 N.m (16 lb-ft) . 4. Install the bolts securing the bottom of the instrument panel to the floor. Tighten Tighten the instrument panel-to-floor bolts to 22 N.m (16 lb-ft) .

WARNING A SIBS® unit must not be contaminated with any external matter that may adversely affect its operation and reliability Suggestions: • Inspect each brake and supplied items against the packing list included in the shipment. • Ensure all items are included as described. • Ensure all components remain in their original packaging until required for assembly. • Thoroughly read the Service Manual. Familiarize yourself with the tools required and prepare them for use; familiarize yourself with the parts of the brake and the process required for fitting each brake and control system. • Ensure complete cleanliness of all brake components and the working environment around the vehicle. • Ensure no contamination of the brake assemblies occurs during installation. • Follow the points in the manual as described; if you are not sure – check the Manual. • Place each brake close to the vehicle adjacent to the axle where the brake is to be fitted, ensuring that they cannot by contaminated by any foreign material. Preparation Make sure all the tools, equipment and brake components are readily available. Before starting installation, check that: 1. the battery is disconnected 2. the vehicle is standing safely on a hoist 3. the original Toyota brakes have been removed (refer to Toyota manual): a. remove rear axle shaft assemblies b. if fitting fronts, remove the front steering knuckle assemblies 4. the handbrake cable and lever have been removed 5. the required amount of SIBS® fluid is available 6. an empty drain pan is available

TOYOTA 4-Runner 1990-95 Pickup (standard cab) 1989-2002 / Pickup (extended cab) 1989-2002 Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent an accidental short circuit. Remove (3) screws and (1) 10mm bolt from the driver’s side speaker panel and remove the panel. Remove (1) 10mm bolt from the bottom of the passenger’s side speaker panel. Remove (3) screws from the side of the panel and remove the glove box. Remove (4) screws securing the factory head unit and disconnect the wiring. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent an accidental short circuit. Remove the climate control knobs. Unclip the climate control trim panel and remove (2) Phillips screws exposed. Unclip the dash trim bezel, lift up on the bezel and remove. DOUBLE DIN APPLICATIONS: Skip to the Installation Instructions for ALL VEHICLES on Page #3. SINGLE DIN APPLICATIONS: Cut and remove the bottom portion of the Radio Housing (see Fig. A) and Faceplate (see Fig. B). Skip to the Installation Instructions for ALL VEHICLES on Page #3. 12 1 2 TOYOTA Tacoma 1995-02 1 Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent an accidental short circuit. Pull the cupholder out. Unclip the radio trim bezel and remove. Remove (4) screws securing the factory head unit and disconnect the wiring.
