2 Side Bar Kit – Kit 84801 Before Starting Installation 1. Carefully read all warnings and instructions completely before beginning. 2. Verify all parts have been received in this kit by checking the parts list at the end of this document. 3. Only install this kit on the vehicle for which it is specified. If anytime during the installation you encounter something different from what is outlined in the instructions, call technical support at (928) 636-3176. 4. Special tools needed: a. 17/64″ drill bit 5. Park vehicle on a clean, dry, flat, level surface and block tires so vehicle cannot roll in either direction. Engine Compartment 1. Disconnect both battery cables. Disconnect negative cable first, then positive cable. 2. Factory Side Bars a. Remove factory side bars if present. NOTE Kit parts are prefaced by the word kit and appear in bold print. NOTE If parts are missing from kit, please be prepared to provide the following information: 1. Name of purchase location 2. Install kit brackets (body mounted). a. Install two kit brackets (body mounted) along driver side of vehicle using either two factory installed bolts per bracket,.or kit supplied 8mm bolts b. Repeat previous step on pass. side of vehicle. 2. Side Bars a. Insert kit sleeve into kit side bar (rear). Install kit bolt (7/16″ x 1″) and kit washer (7/16 USS flat) into kit sleeve . Install kit side bar (front) onto kit sleeve . Install kit bolt (7/16″ x 1″) and kit washer (3/8 USS flat) into kit sleeve . Install Side Bars on Vehicle 1. Install steps on vehicle a. Install the kit side bar assembly (driver) onto kit body brackets using four kit bolts (1/2″ X 1-1/ 4″), four kit washers (1/2″ flat), four kit sleeves (7/8″ OD), and four kit nuts (flange). Install the kit bolts into the outer holes in the kit body brackets . DO NOT TIGHTEN. NOTE The side bar can be installed in two positions. It can be installed so that the steps are flat or it can be installed with the steps slightly angled downward. Kit bolt (7/16″ x 1″), Kit Washer (3/8 USS flat ) Kit Body Bracket Outer Holes Kit Bolts (1/2 X1-1/4″) b. Determine desired position for the steps. Install four kit bolt (7/16″ x 3 1/2″), four kit washers (7/ 16″), and four kit nuts (flange nut) as indicated below. c. Tighten all mounting bolts on driver side of vehi- cle. d. Repeat for passenger side of vehicle. Install Step Pads on Side Bar 1. Step Pads a. Position kit step pads on center of kit side bar hoop . Ensure the kit step pad is level and mark two locations on each pad to drill

Toyota pilot bearing: Toyota uses a ball pilot bearing which is a very accurate fit on the end of the pilot shaft. I had to sand my pilot shaft down slightly with wet/dry paper to get the bearing to be other than a force fit. You need a sliding fit for installation of the trans in the car. Pilot Tool adjustment: I believe it is necessary, or desirable at least, to tighten up the accuracy of the supplied plastic pilot tool to make sure the nose of the first-motion shaft will slide into the Toyota pilot bearing during installation of the trans. I wrapped the pilot tool with enough electrical tape so it was a perfect fit on both the pilot bearing and the clutch disc splines. 1 layer of tape around the contour of the splines did the trick. Smitty supplies an aluminum ring which holds the Toyota pilot bearing into the Healey flywheel. I used a vise to press the bearing into the ring, and a large 1-5/16 socket as a tool to hammer this into the recess in the flywheel. This was easy if you’re careful. Your lead hammer makes a dandy driver for this. Toyota Trans install: The shop manuals warn against tilting the engine into the radiator. Mine has the 6- bladed fan about 1/2″ back from the radiator and during this process it never came close to the radiator. If you have the block between the valve cover and the firewall, minor or no jacking of the engine should be necessary in order to get the Toyota trans in place. Position your trans jack or floor jack in the middle of the hole and place the Toyota trans on top of it. Lower enough to get the bell housing through the opening, then raise it back up to where the bolt holes align. Observe parallelism between the bell housing and engine flange. I believe the limiting factor here is the alignment of the Toyota pilot shaft with the pilot bearing–I believe this is at least as accurate as anything to do with the dowel bolts.

Step 1: Measure current front ride height. Take a measurement from the bottom of the wheel/rim to the lip of the fender on each side of the vehicle. Write down measurements to help in determining ride height after new kit is installed. (Figure A) Step 2: Position vehicle on a flat surface or automotive lift. Suspend front wheels , lifting by the frame with a floor jack or lift jack. Secure using jack stands and wheel chocks. Be sure engine is turned OFF and vehicle is in PARK. Remove tire/wheel assembly on ONE side of vehicle . Step 3: Support Spindle to protect ABS system and brake lines! LOOSEN, but don’t completely remove upper ball joint nut, outer tie rod nut and sway bar link nut at the lower control arm. Step 4 : Break Outer tie rod and ball joint from their tapers using tools specific to this procedure. CAREFULLY, while supporting the spindle assembly, completely remove upper ball joint nut & tie rod nut, leaving the loosened sway bar link nut in place. ( Figure B) Step 5: Remove strut assembly from the vehicle. Remove LOWER strut bolt first, followed by the three (3) upper strut nuts. CAUTION! BE EXTREMELY CAREFULL TO SUPPORT STRUT ASSEMBLY WHEN REMOVING UPPER STRUT NUTS! The Strut/Spring assembly is heavy and can cause injury to technician or damage to other components if released too quickly! (Figure C) Step 6: Apply 50% of the INCLUDED Synthetic Grease to the TOP of the THREADED INNER ADJUSTMENT SCREW, as illustrated. (Figure D) Step 7: Using the original OEM stud nuts , secure new Adjustable Upper Strut Kit to OEM upper strut studs and torque to manufacturer’s specifications. (Figure E) IMPORTANT! Be sure the Threaded Adjustment Screw Rotates FREELY after securing kit to OEM top of strut! If not, slightly loosen the three upper stud nuts and reposition Threaded Adjuster Screw UPWARD slightly. Retorque upper stud nuts to manufacturer’s specifications and recheck that Inner Adjuster Screw rotates freely. Step 8: Install the Top Connection Plate ONLY, studs directed UPWARD, into position in the strut tower, and secure with the NEW Nylock stud nuts supplied with this kit. Torque stud nuts to OEM specifications. (Figure F) Step 9: Reinstall strut assembly . Be sure the new Adjustable Upper Strut Kit is THREADED DOWN in the MOST COMPACT POSITION for easiest reassembly, then pass exposed threaded area of the kit THROUGH the center of the Top Connection Plate already installed. HINT: The use of a pry bar or breaker bar may simplify reinstallation of the Strut Assembly. (Figure G) Step 10: Install Large 1-1/4-12 Adjustment Locking Jam Nut included with this kit and tighten until snug to Top Connection Plate. Install Snap Ring included with kit.

(i) Remove the hood release cable. (Fig. 1-9) (1) Do not bend the hood release cable. (j) Open the screw cover on the lower dash cover. Insert the tip of a Nylon Panel Removal Tool in the upper slot to loosen it. (Fig. 1-9) (1) Remove one screw and one bolt securing the lower dash cover. (k) Remove the lower dash cover. (Fig. 1-10) (1) Disconnect the temperature sensor (connector and aspirator hose) from the lower dash cover if equipped. (l) Carefully remove the driver side airbag assembly. (Fig. 1-11) (1) Remove four bolts securing the driver side airbag assembly. (2) Be careful not to get cut by the sharp metal edges. (3) Do not disconnect the airbag assembly. 1. Check the Kit content. (a) Make sure that the kit contains all the parts listed in the Kit Contents. 2. Remove OE Front Springs and Shocks NOTE: Use the same procedures below for the RH side and LH side. (a) Secure vehicle on lift, and remove front wheels (b) Remove the nut and bolt from the shock absorber lower side. (Fig. 2-1) (1) To prevent the shock absorber with coil spring from falling, leave the bolt inserted. (c) Remove the top 4 nuts. (Fig. 2-2) (d) Remove the bolt (lower side) and OE shock absorber with coil spring. (e) Repeat steps 2(b) – 2(d) on opposite side. 3. Disassemble OE Front Springs and Shocks (a) Using one of the SST’s listed, compress the coil spring.(Fig. 3-1) (1) Approved SST: 09727-30021, 09727- 00010, 09727-00021, 09727-00031 (2) Make sure that the suspension support is free from the coil spring. Fig. 2-1 Fig. 2-2 Fig. 3-1 TOYOTA TUNDRA 2007 – LOWERING KIT Installation Procedure Page 3 of 9 pages Issue: A 02/14/2008 (3) Do not compress the coil spring more than necessary. (4) Do not use an impact wrench. It will damage SST. (5) Do not place yourself over the top of the shock absorber. NOTE: Be careful as the coil spring may spring upward and cause an injury. (b) Remove the front support to front shock absorber nut and discard. (Fig. 3-2) (c) Remove the suspension support, 2 retainers and 2 cushions from the shock absorber rod and retain for reuse. (d) Discard the OE front spring and shock. (e) Repeat steps 3(a) – 3(d) for other OE spring/shock assembly. 4. Assemble TRD Front Springs and Shocks (a) Using the same spring compressor, install the TRD front coil spring. (Fig. 4-1) (1) Do not compress the coil spring more than necessary. (2) Do not use an impact wrench. It will damage SST. (b) Install the new TRD shock absorber and spring perch into the TRD coil spring. (1) Fit the lower end of the coil spring into the recess of the spring perch on the shock absorber. (Fig. 4-2) (c) From step 3(c), install the 2 cushions, 2 retainers and suspension support to the TRD piston rod. (d) Temporarily install a new top shock absorber nut ( Top Nut PN: 90177-A0007) Fig. 3-2 Fig. 4-1 Fig. 4-2

REMOVAL CAUTION: Prior to removal of the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor, set cylinder No.1 to zero degrees Top Dead Center (TDC) of compression stroke. Then note the position of the CMP sensor electrical connector. The installation procedure requires that the connector be located in the same position. 1. Disconnect battery ground cable. NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy. 2. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring connector from CMP sensor. 3. Remove retaining screws and CMP sensor from sensor housing. 4. If removing CMP sensor housing from the cylinder block, proceed with Removal Step 5. If not removing sensor housing, proceed to installation Step 6. 5. Remove hold-down clamp (bolt and washer assembly) . 6. Remove CMP sensor housing from cylinder block INSTALLATION CAUTION : A special service tool such as Syncro Positioning Tool T95T-12200-A must be obtained prior to installation of the replacement CMP sensor. Failure to follow this procedure will result in improper sensor alignment. This will result in the fuel system being out of time with the engine, possibly causing engine damage. 1. Attach Syncro Positioning Tool T95T-12200-A as follows: a. Engage CMP sensor housing vane into the radial slot of the tool. b. Rotate tool on CMP sensor housing until tool boss engages notch in sensor housing. 2. Pre-lubricate synchronizer gear with engine oil meeting Ford specification ESE-M2C123-A prior to assembly. 3. Install sensor housing so that drive gear engagement occurs when arrow on ocator tool is pointed approximately 75 degrees counterclockwise from the rear face of the cylinder block. This step will locate CMP sensor electrical connector in the pre-removal position. 4. Rotate Syncro Positioning Tool T95T-12200-A clockwise slightly. This will engage oil pump intermediate shaft. Push downward while adjusting Syncro Positioning Tool T95T-12200-A until the Syncro Gear engages the camshaft gear. 5. When synchronizer flange is fully seated against block, the installation tool should be facing counterclockwise of engine centerline approximately 33 to 45 degrees. 6. Install hold-down clamp (washer and bolt) and tighten bolt to 19-30 Nm (14- 22 lb ft)
