In order to obtain these protections, the engine coolant must be maintained at the correct concentration and fluid level. When adding engine coolant, use a 50/50 mixture of engine coolant and clean, drinkable water. To maintain the integrity of the coolant and the cooling system: * Add Motorcraft Premium Engine Coolant VC-4-A (in Oregon VC-5, in Canada CXC-10) or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A. * Do not add Motorcraft Specialty Engine Coolant such as VC-2 or an equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B44-D. Mixing coolants can degrade the coolant’s corrosion protection. * Do not add alcohol, methanol, or brine, or any engine coolants mixed with alcohol or methanol antifreeze. These can cause engine damage from overheating or freezing. * Do not mix with recycled coolants unless they meet the requirements of Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A or WSS-M97B51-A1. Fill the degas bottle with the correct engine coolant mixture. 4. Install the pressure relief cap. 5. Move the temperature blend selector to the full warm position. 6. WARNING: Do not stand in line with or near the engine cooling fan blade when revving the engine. Run the engine until it reaches operating temperature. 7. Add the correct coolant mixture to the degas bottle until the coolant level is between the COOLANT FILL LEVEL marks. 8. Turn off the engine and allow the cooling system to cool. Recheck the coolant level and fill the cooling system to the FULL mark on the degas bottle. 9. WARNING: Do not stand in line with or near the engine cooling fan blade when revving the engine. Repeat Steps 3 through 8 until the reservoir level is OK. Bleeding Without RADKITPLUS 1. Bleed the cooling system as follows: * Select the maximum heater temperature and blower motor speed settings. Position the control to discharge air from the A/C vents in the instrument panel. * WARNING: Do not stand in line with or near the engine cooling fan blade when revving the engine. Start the engine and allow it to idle. While the engine is idling, feel for hot air from the A/C vents. * CAUTION: If the air discharge remains cool and the engine coolant temperature gauge does not move, the engine coolant level is low in the engine and must be filled. Stop the engine, allow it to cool and fill the cooling system. Start the engine and allow it to idle until the normal operating temperature is reached. Hot air should discharge from the A/C vents. The engine coolant temperature gauge should maintain a stabilized reading in the middle of the NORMAL range and the upper radiator hose should feel hot to the touch. * Shut the engine off and allow it to cool. * Check the engine for coolant leaks. * Check the engine coolant level in the degas bottle and fill it as necessary.

Intake Manifold—Lower Removal 1. Partially drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03 . 2. Remove the upper intake manifold (9424). For additional information, refer to Intake Manifold—Upper in this section. 3. Remove the fuel supply manifold (9F792). For additional information, refer to Section 303-04B . 4. Disconnect the EGR vacuum tube (9E498). 5. Disconnect the EGR-to-exhaust manifold tube (9D477). * Loosen the nut. 6. Disconnect the upper radiator hose (8260). * Reposition the clamp. * Disconnect the hose. 7. Disconnect the heater hose (18472). * Compress the fitting * Disconnect the hose. 8. Disconnect the intake manifold runner control (IMRC). 9. Position the water bypass tube (8555) aside. 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Position the tube aside. 10. NOTE: Note the location of the six long bolts. Remove the lower intake manifold (9J447). 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Remove the intake manifold. 11. Remove the intake manifold runner control (IMRC) if necessary. For additional information, refer to Section 303-14 . 12. Remove and discard the lower intake manifold sealing components. Installation 1. Refer to the illustration for intake manifold sealing component locations. 2. Install the lower intake manifold front and rear end seals. 1. Apply a bead of sealant to the intake manifold front and rear end seal mounting points as indicated. * Use Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G323-A4. 3. Install the lower intake manifold front and rear end seals. 3. Install the intake manifold gaskets (9439). 4. Install the intake manifold runner control (IMRC) if required. For additional information, refer to Section 303-14 . 5. NOTE: The lower intake manifold must be installed within four minutes of applying sealant. Position the lower intake manifold. 1. Apply a bead of sealant to the lower intake manifold mounting at the points indicated. * Use Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G323-A4. 3. connected to the vehicle, the TBC module will enter a “sleep mode” but still continue to send a PWM voltage signal to the trailer tow connector every 4 seconds to detect when a trailer is connected. When the ignition key is in the RUN position and the module is in sleep mode, pressing a gain button or sliding the manual switch will cause the module to “wake up”. If a trailer is not connected to the vehicle, the display should prove out for 3 seconds, then the trailer icon should illuminate red and the IC message center should display TRAILER DISCONNECTED or CHECK TRAILER. If a trailer is connected to the vehicle, the display should prove out for 3 seconds and then the trailer icon should illuminate green. Inspection and Verification NOTE: A trailer brake emulator tool is available to verify that the TBC module and vehicle wiring are functioning correctly. 1. Verify the TBC system is correctly installed by checking that the vehicle is equipped with a brake pressure transducer on the master cylinder. If the brake pressure transducer is not present, then the TBC system has been erroneously installed. 2. Verify the customer concern. 3. NOTE: The TBC does not function with electric-over-hydraulic or surge trailer brake types. Verify that the trailer brakes are electric-actuated drum type brakes. 4. Verify the stoplamps operate correctly by applying and releasing the brake pedal with the ignition switch in the OFF position and the trailer disconnected. If the stoplamps do not operate correctly, refer to Section 417-01 . If the stoplamps operate correctly, proceed to the next step. 5. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage. Visual Inspection Chart 6. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC) and select the vehicle to be tested from the scan tool menu. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle: * check that the program card is correctly installed. * check the connections to the vehicle. * check the ignition switch position. 7. If the scan tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the scan tool operating manual. 8. Carry out the scan tool data link test. If the scan tool responds with: * CAN, ISO, or UBP circuit fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to Section 418-00 . * No response/not equipped for the TBC, GO to Pinpoint Test A . * System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out self-test diagnostics for the TBC and the antilock brake system (ABS) module. 9. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Trailer Brake Control (TBC) module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart or Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart to continue diagnosis. 10. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to Symptom Chart to continue diagnosis. NOTE: Always retrieve the continuous DTCs after running the self-test.

Draining and Filling Cooling System Notes Draining and Filling Cooling System Draining Procedure Important: Do NOT add any engine coolant supplement sealant pellets to the cooling system. Drain and refill the engine cooling system every 5 years or 240 000 km, (150,000 ml) , whichever occurs first. 1. Park the vehicle on a level surface. 2. Remove and clean the coolant recovery reservoir. Caution: To avoid being burned, do not remove the radiator cap or surge tank cap while the engine is hot. The cooling system will release scalding fluid and steam under pressure if radiator cap or surge tank cap its removed while the engine and radiator are still hot. 3.1. Slowly rotate the cap counterclockwise to the detention tab. Do not press down while rotating pressure cap. 3.2. Wait until any residual pressure, indicated by a hissing sound, is relieved. 3.3. After all hissing stops, press down on the radiator cap and rotate the cap counterclockwise in order to remove the cap. Important: Recover and store used coolant in a used coolant holding tank and submit the used coolant for recycling on a regular basis. Do NOT pour used coolant down the drain. Ethylene glycol antifreeze is very toxic. Disposing of ethylene glycol into the sewer system or ground water is both illegal and ecologically unsound. 4. Place a drain pan under the radiator drain cock in order to collect all of the used coolant. 5. Open the radiator drain cock. If only partial cooling system draining is required, drain enough coolant to perform the procedure 6. Open the air bleed valve on the thermostat housing 2 full turns. 7. Open the air bleed valve above coolant pump 2 full turns. 8. Place a drain pan under the engine block drains in order to collect the used coolant. Important: Allow the coolant to drain completely
