This bracket kit fits the 2001-10 Toyota Highlander. For the ’01-’07 Toyota Highlander, follow the instructions below. For ’08-’10 Toyota Highlander instructions, see the separate section included in these instructions. Important: please use all supplied bolts and parts and read all instructions carefully before beginning this installation. The majority of questions you may have can be answered within the text, and proper installation will ensure safe and secure travel. Now, begin the installation. Fig.C Fig.D Fig.E 1. Start by removing four plastic fasteners that attach the grille to the core support (Fig.C). 2. Once all the fasteners are removed, squeeze and push out a square plastic clip fastener for the grille, located between the headlight housing and the radiator support frame on each side. 3. Pull back the grille and remove the Phillips screw that attaches the fascia to the hood latch support (Fig.D). 4. On each side, remove three plastic fasteners: two of the plastic fasteners are attaching the fender liner to the fascia (Fig.E); the other plastic fastener is attaching the fender liner to the frame rail (Fig.F) 5. Remove ten 10mm (head) bolts (Fig.G) and two plastic fasteners (Fig.H) attaching the lower splash shield to the fascia and the sub frame. 6. On both sides, pull back the fender liner and remove one 10mm screw attaching the corner of the fascia to the fender (Fig.I). Remove the foam shock absorption core by pulling forward (Fig. L). Note: this will not be reinstalled. Retain the foam shock absorption core and attachment hardware so that it can be replaced if the bracket is ever removed. 10. Remove six 14mm (head) bolts to remove the bumper core (Fig.M). Note: this will not be reinstalled. Retain the bumper core and attachment hardware so that it can be replaced if the bracket is ever removed. 11. Remove the alignment studs at the end of each frame rail (Fig.N). 12. Now, place the main receiver brace into the ends of the frame rails (Fig.O). 13. Bolt the main receiver brace into place using the three supplied 10mm x 1.25 x 35mm bolts, flat washers and lock washers (Fig.P). Repeat for the other side. Tighten to the torque specifications listed at the end of these instructions.

The installation of this accessory should follow approved guidelines to ensure a quality installation. These guidelines can be found in the “Accessory Installation Practices” document. This document covers such items as:- • Vehicle Protection (use of covers and blankets, cleaning chemicals, etc.). • Safety (eye protection, rechecking torque procedure, etc.). • Vehicle Disassembly/Reassembly (panel removal, part storage, etc.). • Electrical Component Visassembly/Reassembly (battery disconnection, connector removal, etc.). Please see your Toyota dealer for a copy of this document. 1. Vehicle Disassembly. (a) Remove the negative battery cable. (Fig. 1-1) (1) Protect the fender before starting. (2) Do not touch the positive terminal with any tool removing the cable. (b) Remove the glove box under-dash cover. (Fig. 1-2) (c) Remove the passenger’s step cover. (Fig. 1-4) (1) Remove one nut securing the cowl cover. (e) Remove one screw and one bolt from the glove box assembly. (Fig. 1-5) (f) Remove the glove box assembly. (Fig. 1-6) (1) Open the glove box door and remove three screws securing the glove box assembly. (2) Disconnect the trunk opener cancel switch from the glove box assembly if equipped. For vehicles with Smart Entry, the disassembly process ends on Step f. Go to Section 5. For vehicles without Smart Entry, continue the disassembly process. FOR VEHICLES WITHOUT SMART ENTRY SYSTEM ONLY. (Step g) NOTE: Do not perform this step if the vehicle has Smart Entry. (g) Remove the driver’s step cover. (Steps h-l) NOTE: Do not perform this step if the vehicle has Smart Entry. (h) Remove the driver’s cowl cover. (Fig. 1-8) (1) Remove the one nut securing the cowl cover. (i) Remove the hood release cable. (Fig. 1-9) (1) Do not bend the hood release cable. (j) Open the screw cover on the lower dash cover. Insert the tip of a Nylon Panel Removal Tool in the upper slot to loosen it. (Fig. 1-9) (1) Remove one screw and one bolt securing the lower dash cover. (k) Remove the lower dash cover. (Fig. 1-10) (1) Disconnect the temperature sensor (connector and aspirator hose) from the lower dash cover if equipped. (l) Carefully remove the driver side airbag assembly. (Fig. 1-11) (1) Remove four bolts securing the driver side airbag assembly. (2) Be careful not to get cut by the sharp metal edges. (3) Do not disconnect the airbag assembly. (4) Use the empty V4 kit box to support the airbag assembly on the floor

OVERHAUL HINT: Overhaul the RH side by the same procedures with LH side. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 1. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID NOTICE: Wash off the brake fluid immediately if it comes into contact with a painted surface. 2. DISCONNECT FRONT FLEXIBLE HOSE 3. Remove the union bolt and a gasket from the disc brake cylinder, then disconnect the flexible hose from the disc brake cylinder. a. REMOVE DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSY FR LH 4. Remove the 2 bolts and disc brake cylinder. a. REMOVE DISC BRAKE PAD KIT FRONT (PAD ONLY) 5. Remove the 2 brake pads with anti-squeal shim. a. 6. Remove the 2 anti-squeal shims from each of 2 brake pads . a. Using a screwdriver, remove the wear indicator from each of 2 brake pads . b. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD SUPPORT PLATE 7. Toyota Landcruiser Rear Brake Upgrade Package HOPPERS STOPPERS HOPPERS STOPPERS HOPPERS STOPPERS HOPPERS STOPPERS 4 4 4 4 Rear Brake Upgrade Package 78/79 Series Toyota Landcruiser Cause of Rear Brake Problems 1 Combining a drum handbrake and a disc rotor and caliper within the confines of a 16-inch wheel necessitates a small brake caliper and small pad radial section, resulting in an undersized pad area. The standard design has a thin disc and a handbrake of small diameter and swept area relative to the weight of the vehicle. 2 The backing plate and handbrake arrangement allow mud and slurry to enter but not exit, causing abrasives to accumulate and rapidly destroy the handbrake, including its function as an emergency brake. 3 The small disc pad contact area is at odds with the affects of loading under abrasive conditions where rates of wear are parabolic for wear rate versus load. 4 The handbrake design is fiddly and complicated with many small parts that prove to be difficult to assemble correctly. Hoppers Stoppers design solution There appear to be a few possible ways to approach this problem, with a couple of companies proposing designs. Some take unconventional and unusual approaches but appear expensive to purchase and repair; with their application probably only justified if they perform perfectly for a very long time. Hoppers Stoppers’ approach is to stick to proven principles and overcome the basic weakness of the existing design. By all reports, the front brakes on these Toyotas work adequately, and considering their environment do not give significant problems in the field. In our view these brakes are not particularly special in their engineering, just the same basic front brakes that they have made for many years. If we built a rear brake set as solid and even better designed than the front it should last as long. This requires a big, thick disc rotor and brake lining swept area similar to the front
