REPAIR PROCEDURE: VALVE ROTATION: 1. Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to the detailed service information available in TechCONNECTunder: Service Info>14-Fuel System>Fuel Delivery >Standard Procedure>Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure. 2. Remove upper intake manifold. Refer to the detailed service information available in TechCONNECTunder: Service Info >9-Engine>Manifolds>Intake Manifold> Removal. 3. Remove cylinder head cover(s). Refer to the detailed service information available in TechCONNECTunder: Service Info >9-Engine>Cylinder Head>Cylinder Head Cover(s) >Removal. 4. Remove rocker arm and shaft assembly. Refer to the detailed service information available in TechCONNECT under: Service Info >9-Engine>Cylinder Head> Rocker Arm/Adjuster Assembly >Removal). 5. Clean and mark the tip of each exhaust valve stem at the 12 O’clock position witha paint marker. The paint mark will be used later to assist with determining the amount of valve rotation. 6. Remove the sparkplugs. 7. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise, until the number 1 piston is at Top Dead Center (TDC) on the compression stroke. 8. Install the compression tester sparkplug adapter in cylinder#1 sparkplug hole. With air hose attached to sparkplug adapter, apply 620.5 to 689 kPa (90 to 100 psi) air pressure. This is to hold valves into place while servicing components. 9. Using Tool MD 998772A (1) with adapter 6527 (4) or equivalent, slightly compress the exhaust valve spring to release tension against the valve and valve spring retainer ( Fig. 1 ). 10. Remove the valve spring retainer locks and discard the locks. NOTE: It is important that the valve rotation section of this repair procedure be performed.

Certain exhaust system components, including exhaust heat shielding systems, have been installed on some vehicles in our assembly plants in an effort to provide protection against engine compartment and exhaust system temperatures. Subsequent aftermarket installers/manufacturers are responsible for providing thermal protection (e.g. underbody heat shields) for any structure and/or equipment added to the vehicle and should not remove any components or exhaust heat shielding installed on the vehicle by Ford Motor Company. All exposed interior sheet metal of closed structures (e.g. fl oor pan of cab and/or secondary structure, tool boxes, etc.) should be covered with an insulating material capable of protecting vehicle occupants and contents from temperatures potentially up to 700°F. OZONE DEPLETING SUBSTANCE (ODS) OZONE DEPLETING SUBSTANCE (ODS) The Clean Air Act of 1990, Section 611 requires any product (i.e., completed vehicle) containing or manufactured with any Class I Ozone Depleting Substance on, or after May 15,1993 must be identifi ed with a “clearly and conspicuously attached label.” Ford Motor Company has eliminated Class I ODS from its manufacturing processes. All 2006 Ford Truck incomplete vehicles will not have Class I ODS content. Manufacturers, including subsequent stage manufacturers, are required to label their products if the product, including any component (whether manufactured by that manufacturer or not), contains a Class I ODS or if the manufacturer used a Class I ODS in the manufacturing of the product. In the case where Ford Motor Company provides a label saying the incomplete vehicle contains a Class I ODS that information must be placed on the product warning label. (See EPA regulation on wording, placement, size, and combining labels.) In Canada consult the appropriate Provincial or Territorial Ministry of Environment. EMISSION CONTROL INFORMATION LABEL To meet United States Environmental Protection Agency regulations, the Important Vehicle Information (tune-up and fuel tank capacity) labels must be affi xed in a location that is readily visible after installation and in such a manner that it cannot be removed without destroying or defacing the label. The label shall not be affi xed to any equipment that is easily detached from the vehicle. When emission control labels are supplied but not attached to the vehicle (i.e., tune-up label or fuel tank label), they must be permanently mounted in a readily visible location to meet the preceding requirements. In addition, whether the label is already affi xed or to be affi xed, no components shall be installed which visibly obscure the label in any way that fails to satisfy the visibility requirements described in the California Emission Control Label Specifications. For Canadian requirements consult Section 1100 8 (1) (d) (i), (ii), & (iii). CALIFORNIA FUEL VAPOR RECOVERY California regulations require that the vehicle fuel systems be designed to accommodate a vapor recovery fueling nozzle including unobstructed access to the fi ll pipe. Fuel fi ller pipes installed per the Figure B on page 15 will comply with the “Specifi cations For Fill Pipes and Openings of Motor Vehicle Fuel Tanks” referenced in Title 13 California Administrative Code provided no part of the aftermarket body, as installed, intrudes within a 254mm [10 in] radius cylinder which has its axis parallel to the ground at point “Z” and extends outward from the Ford Motor Company supplied fuel pipe housing component. The fuel pipe housing component is shown on the referenced fi gures and is attached to the aftermarket body via 4.76 mm [.188 in.] diameter rivets. Fuel fi ller pipes installed using the alternative bracket shown in Figure B, will comply with the above California vapor recovery regulations provided the aftermarket body does not interfere with the access zone as defi ned by the California Air Resources Board, and the areas adjacent to this opening cannot foreseeably damage the nozzle bellows or face plate of nozzles during insertion, latching, disposing or removal

Cause 3 Metal flashing left in the cylinder may cause a high effort to rotate the key. Cause 4 The slider may be binding in the guides. This may cause the shifter to become difficult to operate. Correction 1 Verify that the shifter button is inoperative by evaluating if the park pawl pin on the shifter assembly moves when activating the button. If the parking pawl does not move when the button is activated, the shifter handle will have to be replaced. Refer to Floor Shifter Control Knob Replacement in SI. Correction 2 Important: A change has been made to the shifter assembly for service. The replacement shifter assembly will read PRNDIL (Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, Intermediate and Low). Verify that the micro switch is out of position. Replace the shifter assembly. Refer to Transmission Control Replacement in SI. Correction 3 Important: Refer to instruction sheet that is supplied with the lock cylinder kit. BO 47869 is an essential staking tool and must be used for the repair. Replace the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement in SI. Correction 4 Replace the slide indicator and guides in the shifter following the procedure below: 1. Apply the parking brake. 2. Remove the upper console trim. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement-Console Front in SI. 3. Remove shifter knob. Refer to Floor Shifter Control Knob Replacement in SI. 4. Remove the indicator plate. Use a flat-bladed screwdriver to release the locking tabs. 5. Remove the shifter indicator lens. 6. Pull up on the indicator and remove it from the assembly. 7. Remove the two front rails by unsnapping the front and lifting up, and then back, to remove the rails from the shifter assembly. 8. Install the new guides. Place the hook end into the assembly and push down. It will snap into place. 9. Install the new slide indicator. With the transmission in neutral, place the slide over the shifter and into the guides. Move the slide indicator down the guides in the front and rear. Important: Replace the shifter indicator lens if damage is present due to the slider binding or if it becomes damaged during disassembly. 10. Install the shift indicator lens. 11. Install the shift indicator plate. 12. Install the shifter knob. Refer to Floor Shifter Control Knob Replacement in SI. 13. Install the upper console trim. PREP AND TUNING FOR POWER: NOTE: This manifold will produce optimum power and drivability when used with #1405 carburetors. Please refer to Edelbrock Performer Series Carburetor Owner’s Manual for tuning procedures. 1. Edelbrock has found, while dyno testing on a Performer level engine at our location, the best calibration to be: Metering Rods – .070″ x .047″ (stock 1405), Primary Jets – .098″ (provided with intake manifold), and Secondary Jets – .086″ (provided with intake manifold). This will vary according to engine build and atmospheric conditions. Use it as a starting point. However, if used for racing or marine installation, further tuning may be necessary. 2. Aftermarket distributor curve kits may be used with this intake manifold. A basic ignition curve of 12° to 14° initial and a total of 36° to 38° advance is a good starting point. 3. Use modified or high performance cylinder heads such as our Performer RPM. 4. Installation of aftermarket headers, camshafts or both may lean carburetor calibration. Should this condition occur, recalibrate with a richer jet. • CAMSHAFT AND HEADERS: Dual Quad manifolds are compatible with aftermarket camshafts and headers. Header primary tube diameter should be 1-7/8″, depending on the specific engine combination. Edelbrock has developed two camshafts for use with this intake manifold – Performer-Plus #2192 or Performer RPM #7194. Please check the catalog or website for rpm and application guidelines. INSTALLATION 1. Use only recommended intake gaskets set when installing this intake manifold. For ease of installation, we recommend Edelbrock Manifold Bolt and Washer Kit, #8594. 2. Fully clean the cylinder head intake flanges and the engine block end seal surfaces. 3. Use a factory style valley pan along with the recommended gaskets. 4. Apply Edelbrock Gasgacinch sealant P/N 9300 to both cylinder head flanges and to the cylinder head side of the gaskets, allow to air dry, and attach the intake gaskets. 5. Install the intake manifold and hold-down bolts. Torque all of the manifold bolts in two steps by the sequence shown in Figure 1 to 25 ft/lbs
