Material required: – Remote Car Starter – Xpresskit : XK05-PKT2 or Bypasskit :PKT2 – One 5-wire relay for auto lamp circuit Key required for programming: 1 Average installation time: 2.5 hours Difficulty level: Medium 2.0 Preparation: -Remove the driver’s side under dash, as well as the knee airbag bolts. Move the Airbag aside, but DO NOT DISCONNECT the Airbag connector in order to avoid setting any vehicle codes. -Remove the driver’s side floor heating duct, in order to access the vehicle IMI & IMO wires easily. 3.0 Installation: The remote car starter will be installed in a conventional manner even if the car is equipped with the Smart Key “Push-to-Start” system. 3.01 Main Ignition Harness Connection: Most of the connections will be done behind the Fuse box. This fuse box is located under the driver side underdash. Also, the vehicle’s TACH wire can be found inside vehicle, as per diagram below and it is suggested to use this wire for the remote start tach source. The remote start hood pin switch wire is the only wire which must be run into the engine compartment for safety. Accessory (+): White Ignition 1 (+): Pink Ignition 2 (+): Light Green Starter (+): Grey Tach: Black 3.02 Wiring location for the Bypasskit XK-05 PKT2: The connection for the XK05-PKT2 will be done on the driver side under dash. The wires required are from a 5 wires harness coming from behind the heater module, high above the gas pedal near the firewall. The five wires in this harness are as follows: Blue: transponder IMI (Immobilizer in) wire, which gets cut in two and wired in series. The bottom-half wire connects to the kits Violet/White wire and the top-half wire connects the kits Violet wire. Green: transponder IMO (Immobilizer out) wire, which gets wired in parallel with the kits Orange wire. White/Black, White & Orange… these wire are not used for installation The GREEN LED output wire from the XK05-PKT2 is not required for this installation. The vehicle LED does come on during remote start. 3.03 Wiring location for door locks and factory alarm control: The wires to control the factory alarm and the door locks are located behind the driver’s kick panel. These wires must receive negative pulses. It is mandatory to disarm the OEM alarm system before remote start sequence Grey Unlock Wire : A double pulse unlock (-) output is required to disarm and unlock all doors. The first unlock (-) pulse disarms OEM alarm and unlocks driver’s door, the second pulse will unlock all other doors. In order to disarm the OEM alarm when remote starting, this GREY wire requires a pulse before start, which unlocks the driver’s door. So, if the remote systems unlock output does offer a pulse before start, then connect both the unlock and disarm (-) output wires to the vehicle’s GREY unlock wire. Brown Lock Wire : In order to lock and arm the OEM alarm system a (-) pulse is required for the vehicle’s BROWN lock wire. If the vehicle’s ignition on the alarm will not arm, if locking with remote.

Dakota Trucks 1989-1996 Ignition Tests COIL The ignition coil for the vehicles covered by this guide is in the following locations: • 1989-92 engines: mounted to the firewall • 1993-96 2.5L engines: mounted on the thermostat housing in front of the coolant temperature sensor • 1993-96 V6 and V8 LDC engines: mounted to a bracket bolted to the right engine cylinder head • 1993-96 5.9L HDC engines: mounted to a bracket bolted to the air injection pump (AIR pump) mounting bracket. Fig. 2: Ignition coil mounting-all 1989-92 models Fig. 3: Ignition coil wiring and mounting hardware-1993- 96 2.5L engine 1. Inspect the ignition coil for arcing while the engine is running. If the engine will not start, this can be performed while the engine is cranked by either an assistant or a remote starter. Look at the coil in dim or low light to aid visibility of any arcing. Fig. 4: Ignition coil mounting-1993-96 3.9L and 5.2L/5.9L LDC engines 2. Arcing at the tower will carbonize the wire boot, which, if it is connected to a new ignition coil, will cause the coil to fail. In such cases, clean all the carbonization away or replace the components as necessary. Fig. 5: Ignition coil mounting-1993-96 5.9L HDC engine 3. Using a coil tester or ohmmeter according to the manufacturer’s instructions, test the primary and secondary resistance. Replace any coil that does not meet the specifications indicated in the accompanying chart. 4. Inspect the secondary coil wire for any sign of damage. Replace if any damage is found. Carbon tracking on the old wire can cause arcing and the failure of a new ignition coil. REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 1989-92 Models See Figures 6 and 7 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Disconnect the three wires from the coil. Mark them to identify for installation. Unplug the condenser suppressor connector from the coil, if equipped. 4. Unbolt and remove the coil. To install: 5. Bolt down the coil with old bolts. 6. Connect wires to coil making sure that the proper wires are connected where they should be. 7. Connect the condenser suppressor, if equipped. 8. Connect the battery negative cable Removal and Installation V6 AND V8 ENGINES 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Disconnect the primary wiring from the ignition coil. 3. Disconnect the secondary spark plug wire from the coil. 4. Remove the two bolts and withdraw the coil from its mounting bracket. To install:
5. Position the coil on its bracket and install the two bolts. Tighten them to 100 inch lbs. (11 Nm). If the bracket has been tapped for coil mounting bolts, these fasteners require less torque, so tighten them to 50 inch lbs. (5 Nm). 6. Connect all wiring to the ignition coil. TESTING See Figure 1 The only test you can perform without a DRBII scan tool, or equivalent, is a basic check of the sensor only.

SERVICE PROCEDURE NOTE: This procedure is described using CONSULT-II. CONSULT may also be used to perform the diagnostic procedures outlined below. However, the screens and steps will differ slightly from those shown here. 1. Install the NATS card (purple) into slot 1 of CONSULT-II (see Figure 1). Figure 1 2/9 2. Connect CONSULT-II to the vehicle (see Figure 2). Figure 2 3. Turn the ignition switch to “ON” (do not start the engine). CONSULT-II will then turn on automatically (see Figure 3). Now touch “START”. Figure 3 4. Select “NATS V2.0″ (see Figure 4). Figure 4
3/9 5. Select “SELF DIAGNOSIS” (see Figure 5). Figure 5 6. Confirm Self Diagnosis Result “ID DISCORD, IMM-ECM” displayed on the CONSULT-II screen (see Figure 6). Figure 6 7. Press “COPY” to print the Self-Diagnosis screen (see Figure 6). Attach this printout to the repair order. Then press “BACK” (see Figure 6) to return to the CONSULT-II main menu. 4/9 8. Turn the vehicle’s ignition switch “OFF” and CONSULT-II “OFF” (see Figure 7). Figure 7 9. Remove the NATS (purple) card from CONSULT-II and install the Diagnostics (blue) card (see Figure 8).
