Explorer and Mountaineer only 1. If equipped, remove the rear entertainment system. For additional information, refer to Section 415-00 . Explorer Sport Trac only 2. NOTE: The headliner is removed through the rear passenger door. To facilitate removal, the front passenger seat must be removed. Remove the front passenger seat. For additional information, refer to Section 501-10 . All vehicles 3. Remove the overhead console. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12 . 4. Remove the A-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to A-Pillar Trim Panel in this section. 5. Position the B-pillar upper trim panel aside. For additional information, refer to B-Pillar Upper Trim Panel in this section. Explorer and Mountaineer only 6. Remove the C-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to C-Pillar Trim Panel — Explorer, Mountaineer in this section. 7. Remove the D-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to D-Pillar Trim Panel in this section. Explorer Sport Trac 8. Position the C-pillar upper trim panel aside. For additional information, refer to C-Pillar Upper Trim Panel — Explorer Sport Trac in this section. All vehicles 9. Remove the gimp around the roof opening panel, if equipped. 10. Remove the 4 sun visor retainer screws. 11. Remove the sun visors. 12. Carefully lower the headliner at the corner of the sun visor location to access the electrical connector and disconnect the electrical connector. 13. Disconnect the roof opening panel, if equipped. 14. Disconnect the interior mirror electrical connector and electronic compass sensor connector, if equipped. 15. Use a thin-blade tool and carefully remove the dome lamp cover. 16. Disconnect the dome lamp electrical connectors. Explorer and Mountaineer only 17. Remove the upper air duct. * Remove the pin-type retainers. * Push down on the duct, tilt the top outward and pull upward to remove. 18. Remove the lower air duct. 19. Disconnect the electrical connector located at the C-pillar. * Release the wiring harness pin-type retainers. 20. Disconnect all the electrical connectors. All vehicles 21. Disconnect the electrical connector and the wiring pin-type retainers on the A-pillar. 22. CAUTION: To prevent bending or damaging the headliner, an assistant is required to support the headliner while carrying out the remaining steps. Open the sun visor center retainer cover and remove the screw. 23. Remove the sun visor center retainer. 24. Remove the rear pin-type retainer. 25. CAUTION: To prevent damaging the garment hanger retainer, use a 3/16-inch flat-blade screwdriver to carry out this step. NOTE: The garment hanger is shown without the roof sheet metal screw to show the metal retainer clip. The metal retainer clip will remain engaged in the sheet metal after the garment hanger is removed. Remove the garment hangers. 1. Open the access door. 2. Insert the flat-blade screwdriver fully into the garment hanger slot. 3. Rotate the screwdriver 90 degrees so that the screwdriver spreads the metal retainer clip. Remove the plastic garment hanger. 26. NOTE: The headliner is removed through the passenger rear door for Explorer Sport Trac. Remove the headliner. 27. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Connecting the Evolution 1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Locate the diagnostic connector under the dash near the steering column or under the glove compartment and connect the Evolution cable to this connector. After making the connection, the screen will first display the Edge Products logo and then the main startup displays: The numbers in the upper left portion of the screen represent the version number of the Evolution programmer. The character in the upper right portion of the screen represents the current programmed state of your vehicle. The following letters may appear: I – Programming was interrupted. (See Programming Interrupted section for more information) 1 – Vehicle has been programmed to L1 – TOW. 2 – Vehicle has been programmed to L2 – RACE. 3 – Vehicle has been programmed to L3 – EXTREME. Evolution FORD Power Stroke 7.3 Liter 11 2. Select your desired option by pressing the up or down keys on the left side of the programmer and press . Continue to the next section. Special Tool(s) Removal 1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. 2. Disconnect the shift cable from the manual control lever. 3. Disconnect the digital transmission range (TR) sensor electrical connector. 4. Remove the manual control outer lever nut and manual control outer lever. 2004 Ford Truck Ranger 2WD V6-4.0L VIN E 5. Remove the screws and the digital TR sensor. Installation 1. Install the digital TR sensor and loosely install the screws. 2. CAUTION: Tightening one screw before tightening the other may cause the sensor to bind or become damaged. NOTE: The manual lever must be in the NEUTRAL position. Using the special tool, align the digital TR sensor and tighten screws in an alternating sequence. 3. Removal 1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Remove caliper from rotor. Remove locking hub. See AUTOMATIC LOCKING HUBS or MANUAL LOCKING HUBS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. 2. Remove wheel bearings, lock nuts, hub and rotor. Remove spindle-to-steering knuckle nuts. Tap spindle with plastic hammer to free spindle from steering knuckle. See Fig. 9 . Remove spindle, spindle seat (if equipped) and splash shield. 3. On right side applications, remove and discard keystone clamp from shaft assembly and stub shaft. Slide rubber boot onto stub shaft. Remove shaft assembly from right axle. See Fig. 9 . 4. Remove left shaft assembly (if required). On all applications, wrap spindle in protective cloth and place second step of spindle in soft-jawed vise. 5. On Explorer and Ranger, remove oil seal using slide hammer and Seal Remover (TOOL-1175-AC). Remove needle bearing from spindle. Press seal from shaft assembly. See Fig. 9 . 6. On Bronco and F150, remove needle bearing and oil seal using slide hammer and Cup Puller (T77F- 1102-A). Press seal from shaft assembly. Installation 1. Clean all dirt and grease from spindle bearing bore. Ensure bearing bore is free of nicks and burrs. On Explorer and Ranger, install seal on shaft assembly using press and Seal Installer (T83T-3132-A). 2. On Bronco and F150, install seal on shaft assembly, with seal lip toward spindle. On right side applications, install rubber boot and NEW keystone clamps on stub shaft. Install right shaft assembly into stub shaft, with stub shaft missing spline aligned with shaft assembly. 3. Ensure splines are fully engaged. Install rubber boot over assembly and tighten keystone clamps. On left axle applications, install shaft assembly through steering knuckle, and engage in splines. 4. Install needle bearing in spindle, with manufacturer identification mark facing away from spindle bore. For bearing installation, use Handle (T80T-4000-W), and Bearing/Seal Installer (T83T-3123-A for Explorer and Ranger; T80T-4000-S for Bronco and F150).

All of these concerns can be the result of an inappropriate Manual Lever Position (MLP) sensor signal. The MLP sensor consists of six resistors connected in series (ganged). The resistance of the MLP sensor will vary based on which range the transmission is in. The MLP circuit can be checked using the following steps. (Step 1) Check the MLPS ground: Turn the ignition on. The voltage on pin 46 (sensor ground ) should not exceed .1v. If the voltage is excessive, add an additional ground to the existing ground wire (figure 2). Figure 2 Splice an additional ground from the existing ground wire to a known good ground.The negative post of the battery is the best. This view is of the pins of the MLP connector pins. (Step 2) Check the MLPS voltage: The voltage at pin 30 should vary-in increments- according to the position of the manual lever (figure 3). MLP voltage (ignition on) should be within 20% of these specifications Note It is recommended that you use a break-out box. If a break-out box is not available, you will need to pierce the wires to pins 30 and 46 for these tests. (Step 3) Check the resistance of the MLPS: The resistance of the MLPS (pins 30 and 46) should change-in increments-with the position of the manual lever (figure 4). Note If this test is being done with a break-out box, disconnect the computer first (make sure the ignition is off). If this test is being done without a break-out box, disconnect the MLPS from the vehicle harness. REVISED This is a revised bulletin. Remove bulletin 230 from your files. Note Testing beyond this point will include tests of the harness. Consult the appropriate repair manual for this.

1998-2000 FORD SVT CONTOUR/ MERCURY 2.5L V-6 COUGAR Installation Instructions For best performance and continued durability, please take note of the following key points: 1. Use only premium grade fuel 92 octane or higher (R+M/2). 2. The engine must have stock compression ratio. 3. If the engine has been modified in any way, check with Vortech prior to using this product. 4. Always listen for any sign of detonation (pinging) and discontinue hard use (no boost) until problem is resolved. 5. Perform an oil and filter change upon completion of this installation and prior to test driving your vehicle. Thereafter, always use a high grade SF rated engine oil or a high quality synthetic, and change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles or less. Never attempt to extend the oil change interval beyond 3,000 miles, regardless of oil manufacturer’s claims as potential damage to the supercharger may result. 6. Before beginning installation, replace all spark plugs that are older than 1 year or 10,000 miles with original heat range plugs as specified by the manufacturer and reset timing to factory specifications (follow the procedures indicated within the factory repair manual and/or as indicated on the factory underhood emissions tag). Do not use platinum spark plugs unless they are original equipment. Change spark plugs at least every 20,000 miles and spark plug wires at least every 50,000 miles.
