Vehicle Level Transmission and Drivetrain Automatic Transmission/Transaxle Shift Linkage Shift Cable Service and Repair Floor Shift Automatic Transmission GEAR SHIFT CABLE – FLOOR / REMOVAL 1. Using suitable size allen wrench, remove the shift handle retaining screw (Fig. 251). 2. Remove shift handle from shifter assy. 3. Remove console bezel from vehicle 5. Remove retaining clip from shift cable conduit bracket (Fig. 253). 6. Disconnect shifter cable from cable attach stud (pin) (Fig. 253). 7. Remove cable from center console routing. Leave flat on floor for ease of removal. 8. Raise hood. Remove gearshift cable from throttle/gearshift cable bracket (Fig. 254) 9. Unseat cable grommet at firewall and remove cable from interior of vehicle (Fig. 255). 10. Raise vehicle on hoist and disconnect fill tube bracket from transaxle. Rotate fill tube to gain access to shift cable clamp. 11. Remove cable from routing bracket (Fig. 256) 12. Remove cable-to-transaxle nut and slide cable off of stud (Fig. 255). 13. Disconnect shifter cable from shift lever assembly at transaxle (Fig. 255). 14. Remove cable from underneath vehicle. INSTALLATION 1. Make sure transaxle shift lever is in “Park.” This is the most rearward position. Verify park sprag is fully engaged by rotating either a tire or an axle shaft . 2. Position cable in vehicle and connect cable end to the transaxle shift lever (Fig. 255). 3. Verify that the washer (Fig. 255) is still in place on the cable mounting stud. Install cable to transaxle and tighten nut to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.). 4. Rotate fill tube to original location. Install and tighten fill tube bracket bolt. 5. Install cable “push pin” into bracket as shown in (Fig. 254)

INSTALLATION 1. This kit contains all the necessary parts to operate Edelbrock carburetors in a progressive or 1: 1 type operation. Figure 1 illustrates typical progressive type installation in which the rear carburetor is the primary carb. This simplifies linkage attachment to the vehicle’s existing throttle linkage. 2. Before attaching anything to the carburetors, loosely assemble the major components of the linkage kit using Figure 1 as a guideline. Note that the longer rod will go to the rear carb with the flat facing down, and the short rod goes to the front carb with the flat facing up. The brass bearing blocks should be positioned so that the set screws will tighten against the flat of the short rod, i.e., both bearing block set screws will be up. Attach the aluminum collar to the long rod between the bearing blocks with the set screw against the flat. 3. Attach the linkage assembly to the carbs with the 10-24 allen head screws and locknuts. Attach to the rear carb using one of the brass 518″ O.D. x 3/16″ I.D. shoulder spacers and the tapered brass anti-rotation shoulder spacer in the top hole of the throttle arm (112″ diameter). Note that the shoulder spacer goes on the inside and the anti-rotation spacer goes on the outside of the throttle arm. Attach to the front carb using the 3/16″ hole just below the large hole in the throttle arm. ADJUSTMENT – NOTE: If carburetors are full of fuel, place rags in the carb throats to absorb the fuel discharged when working the throttle linkage. This will prevent flooding and possible damage to the piston rings upon start-up. Be sure to remove the rags before starting engine. 1. Tighten the set screw and locknut on the rear bearing block, making sure that the bearing block is close to the end of the shaft from the front carburetor. 2. Push the throttle arms of both carbs to WOT (Wide Open Throttle), then adjust the aluminum collar to touch the rear brass bearing block. Securely tighten the set screw and locknut on the aluminum collar. 3. Let both throttle arms return to idle position, then adjust the front brass bearing block to almost touch the aluminum collar. Leave about .020″-.030″ clearance to allow for independent idle speed adjustment of each carburetor. Tighten all set screws, locknuts, and bolts at this time. 4. Check for smooth operation of linkage from idle to WOT and note that the rear carb will open about 20″ before starting to open the front carb. Both carbs should reach WOT at the same time. 5. IMPORTANT: Attach a return spring to both carburetors as shown in Figure 1. Use the return spring brackets supplied, bending as necessary for attachment to your engine. Generally the brackets can be attached to the intake manifold using the existing bolts. Use the longer or shorter spring on either the front or rear carburetor as required for your particular application. Check for smooth operation and positive return to idle. 6. Attach existing throttle linkage to rear carburetor using the 3/16″ hole below the large hole in the throttle arm. It may be necessary to shorten your existing linkage rod or cable, or to use an aftermarket cable mounting plate. BEFORE STARTING ENGINE, DOUBLE-CHECK FOR SMOOTH OPERATION OF LINKAGE FROM IDLE TO WIDE OPEN THROTTLE AND FOR POSITIVE RETURN TO IDLE. OPTIONAL 1:l INSTALLATION If 1:l linkage is desired, assemble and attach linkage kit as above, except that the attachment point to the front carburetor’s throttle arm will be the large 112″ hole using the other two 518″ O.D. x 3/16″ I.D. shoulder spacers (similar to the rear carburetor). Adjust the bearing blocks to eliminate all freeplay, so that all motion to the rear carburetor’s throttle arm is transmitted directly to the front carb’s throttle arm

CARBURETOR (COROLLA) REMOVAL 1) Drain cooling system. Disconnect air intake hose. Disconnect emission control hoses from air cleaner. Remove air cleaner mounting bolt and wing nut. Remove air cleaner. 2) Disconnect accelerator cable. Disconnect throttle cable (A/T). Disconnect carburetor wiring connector. Disconnect emission control hoses and tag for installation. Disconnect fuel inlet hose. Remove 4 carburetor mounting nuts and No. 1 vacuum pipe. Remove carburetor. DISASSEMBLY Air Horn 1) Remove air cleaner setting bolt. Remove fuel pipe clamp, union, fuel pipe and gaskets. Remove vacuum hoses. Remove pump and pivot screw and pump arm with connecting link. Disconnect choke link and choke opener link. 2 Remove 8 air horn screws and number plate, fuel pipe support and wire clamps. Remove air horn from carburetor body. Disconnect wiring from solenoid valves. 3) Remove float pivot pin, float and needle valve assembly. Remove air horn gasket, needle valve seat and gasket, power piston retainer, power piston and spring. Remove pump plunger and boot. See Fig. 2.

Disconnect throttle positioner links and remove bracket attaching bolts. Remove accelerator pump retainer gasket and remove pump discharge weight, long spring and discharge large ball. See Fig. 1. 2) Remove pump dampening spring. Using tweezers, remove plunger retainer and check ball. Disconnect throttle positioner link and throttle position levers, washer and spring. Remove primary and secondary main passage plugs and gaskets. Remove primary and secondary main jets and gaskets. 3) Remove auxiliary acceleration pump (AAP) housing, spring and diaphragm. Remove AAP inlet plug and check ball. Remove outlet plug, short spring and small ball. Remove primary and secondary small venturies. 4) Remove sight glass retainer, sight glass and “O” ring. Remove throttle lever return spring and back spring. Remove throttle lever and fast idle cam. 5) Disconnect link and remove secondary throttle valve diaphragm assembly and gasket. Remove throttle position switch and bracket. Remove 3 body-to-flange screws and vacuum passage screw. Separate body from flange. See Fig. 3. Remove washer from throttle valve shaft. Remove idle mixture adjusting screw and idle speed adjusting screw.

1. Remove Air Intake Assembly and intake box from throttle body. 2. Remove throttle linkage bracket. 3. Remove the vacuum line clip and on some models the linkage bracket. 4. Remove the nuts and studs from the throttle body. 5. Install the JET Power-Flo spacer using one gasket between the throttle body and spacer and one gasket between the spacer and the manifold with the supplied longer bolts and lock washers. 6. Install the throttle linkage extender plate and reinstall the throttle linkage bracket. On the models referenced above that have a second throttle linkage bracket, use the other extender and attach the vacuum line clip to the bottom of the extension plate. 7. Verify that the throttle linkage, cruise control and kick down cables are NOT binding and that the travel on the linkage is correct before you start the vehicle. NOTE: In some instances it may be necessary to readjust the cables for proper travel. Refer to your factory service manual for correct adjustment procedures. 8. Reinstall the Air Intake Assembly.

Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper) Notes Intake Manifold Replacement – Upper Removal Procedure Important: The upper intake does not have to be removed to remove the lower intake manifold. 1. Disconnect the breather tube at the air cleaner outlet duct 2. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct retaining wingnut. 3. Disconnect the IAT sensor harness connector 4. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct from the throttle body. 5. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle body 6. Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator control cable bracket. 7. Disconnect the cruise control cable, if equipped from the throttle shaft and the accelerator cable bracket. 8. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the intake manifold for the vacuum tank. 9. Remove the power brake booster vacuum hose. 10. Disconnect the following electrical connectors: * The A/C compressor clutch (1) * The A/C compressor cutoff switch (5), if equipped * The Throttle Position (TP) sensor (2) * The Idle Air Control (IAC) motor (3) 11. Disconnect the following electrical connectors: * The fuel meter body assembly (1) * The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor(3) * The EVAP canister purge solenoid valve (2) 12. Remove the engine wire harness clip from the accelerator cable bracket. 13. Move the engine wiring harness aside. 14. Remove the accelerator cable bracket from the throttle body and the intake manifold. 15. Remove the accelerator and cruise control cable bracket from the throttle body. Leave the accelerator and cruise control cables on the bracket16. Remove the PCV valve hose assembly from the intake manifold and the valve rocker arm cover. 17. Remove the bracket for the engine wiring harness from the intake manifold stud. 18. Remove the fuel lines from the fuel meter body assembly. 19. Remove the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve.

1. Pull vehicle into service bay and access radio/center console. 2. Disconnect both battery terminals. These cables must be disconnected during installation to insure proper initialization of the DICE module when the DICE when it is connected. 4. The Shift knob needs to be removed by rotating it counter-clockwise. The trim plate around the shifter also needs to be removed. Clips on the side of the plate hold it in place and easily unsnap by lifting up the back of the plate. 5. The plate can be lifted up but will still be hinged in the front, underneath the radio. Move the shifter through the gears to allow the plate to be lifted up. Once the plate can be lifted remove the screw holding the side panels in place. The panel will now be held by clips only and can be unsnapped by pulling it way from the center console. 2 1 2 3 4 5a Make sure the key is removed from the ignition. If vehicle is equipped with keyless ignition, make sure vehicle is OFF. 5b 3 6. Remove any screws holding the radio in place, so the radio may be fully removed. The arrows indicate the location of the 4 screws (2 on each side of the console). After the screws are removed only clips will be holding the radio in place. The entire radio with navigation (if applicable) can be pulled out. 7. Connect the vehicle specific cable’s 8-pin molex and iPod Docking Cable to the DICE module. The correct plugs on the DICE module can be identified by matching it up with the connector or by looking for the label on the bottom of the module. connector 1/8″ AUX Dock Cable Vehicle Specific Cable 6 7 5. Shown is the CD Changer harness from the back of the radio. The vehicle specific cable will be interfacing from this point. Some radios may have the connectors in a different order than shown. Pull out the vehicle’s radio by removing any required trim and screws. 4. Some trim may need to be removed before the radio can be taken out. 5. Most panels can be removed with little pressure using no tools Remove any screws holding the radio in place, so the radio may be fully removed. A10mm socket wrench will be needed to remove these screws. 7. Connect the vehicle specific cable’s 8-pin molex and iPod Docking Cable to the DICE module. Install the power plate using (2) gaskets, (4) 8mm bolts, and (4) 8mm lock washers. (Ref. “A”, “B”, “C”) A. Install one gasket between the throttle body and power plate. B. Install second gasket between the power plate and manifold. 7. Install throttle linkage plate using a 10mm x 20mm bolt and reinstall the throttle linkage bracket using saved 10mm bolt. (Ref. “D”) 8. Install extension plate using 8mm flat head screw and reinstall linkage bracket used on some models with saved 8mm bolt. Attach vacuum line clip to bottom side of extension plate using furnished 8mm bolt. (Ref. “E”) 9. Inspect & Test throttle linkage for full open & closed travel before driving. Some cruise or kickdown cables may require adjustment. Please refer to your vehicles service manual for proper adjusting. 10. Reinstall air intake system using Step 2 as an example. 11. Reconnect battery cable. Enjoy!
