1998 – 2000 MODELS 1. Inspect main ground points (refer to SB99*04*S001 for more information). * P6 ground point-body [on the passenger side of engine compartment, between the battery and cruise control actuator (if equipped)]. (Figure Fig. 1 ) * P10 ground point-engine (at the alternator bracket) . (Figure Fig. 2 ) Isuzu: 1998 – 2000 Rodeo AFFECTED VEHICLES:1998 – 2000 Rodeo (UE)/Amigo (UA) models with 3.2L V6 engines NOTE: Please refer to the appropriate workshop manual for the correct diagnosing procedure and/or follow the service procedures outlined in this bulletin for the vehicle being serviced. NOTE: The 1998, 1999 or 2000 Rodeo/Amigo Electrical Troubleshooting Manual can assist in locating the vehicle ground distribution (i.e., ground contact points). * Perform a voltage drop test at the main ground points. * If the voltage drop test fails, then inspect and clean both the bolt and contact point. * Verify and correct idle settings (if needed) as described in the workshop manual. * If the repair procedure on this step solves the high idle condition, then return the vehicle to the customer. If the repair procedure on this step does not solve the high idle condition, then go to step 2 (16 pin Blue Connector). B. Remove P-6/P-10 ground terminal and bolt for ground contact inspection. * Inspect ground contact area for corrosion. * Inspect bolt and thread for damage or corrosion. * Clean the ground area and fastening bolt thoroughly with a wire brush. * Replace bolt if damaged or heavily corroded. C. Install the P-6/P-10 ground terminal and bolt (tighten using hand tools only). * Torque the P-6/P-10 ground terminal bolt to (14 N.m) 10 lb.ft. 1998 – 1999 MODELS ONLY 2. Inspect the 16 pin blue connector, located under the power steering fluid reservoir for corrosion, bent, or damaged pins (specifically for the Throttle Position Sensor). (Figure Fig. 3 )

Upper Intake Manifold Removal 1. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. 2. Remove the pin-type retainers and the accelerator cable splash shield 3. Disconnect the throttle cable and the cruise control cable. 4. Disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) and Idle Air Control (IAC) valve electrical connectors. 5. Disconnect the harness Tom the throttle body stud. 6. Disconnect the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) vacuum regulator and vacuum supply hoses. 7. Disconnect the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) and Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) vacuum hoses. 8. Remove the EGR valve. 9. Remove the EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) valve. Zoom Sized for Print 1 Disconnect the vacuum hose. 2 Remove the nuts. 3 Remove the bolts. 4 Remove the EGR valve. Zoom Sized for Print 1 Disconnect the vacuum hose. 2 Disconnect the electrical connector. 3 Remove the bolts. 4 Remove the valve 10. Remove the eight bolts and the upper intake manifold. * Remove and discard the gaskets. * Clean all mating surfaces. Installation 1. Position new gaskets in the upper intake manifold. 2. Position the upper intake manifold and install the bolts in the sequence shown. 3. Install the EGR vacuum regulator valve. 4. Install the EGR valve. Zoom Sized for Print 1 Position the valve. 2 Install the bolts. 3 Connect the electrical connector. 4 Connect the vacuum hose. Line Pressure Check Procedure Tools Required Important: Before performing a line pressure check, verify that the pressure control (PC) solenoid valve is receiving the correct electrical signal from the PCM. Caution: Keep the brakes applied at all times in order to prevent unexpected vehicle motion. Personal injury may result it the vehicle moves unexpectedly. J 21867Universal Pressure Gauge Set 1. Install a Scan Tool. 2. Start the engine and set the parking brake. 3. Check for a stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). 4. Repair the vehicle, if necessary. 5. Check the fluid level. Refer to the Transmission Fluid Checking Procedure. 6. Check the manual linkage for proper adjustment. 7. Turn the engine OFF. Remove the oil pressure test hole plug and install the J 21867. 8. Put the gear selector in PARK range and set the parking brake. 9. Start the engine and allow the engine to warm up at idle Notice: Total test running time should not be longer than two minutes, or else transmission damage could occur. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices. Parts Information 10. Access the PC solenoid valve control test on the Scan Tool. Zoom Sized for Print 11. Increase the PC solenoid as shown actual current from 0.0 to 1.0 amps in 0.1 amp increments. Allow the pressure to stabilize for five seconds after each pressure change. Read the corresponding line pressure on the J 21867. 12. Refer to the Line Pressure specification table. Compare the data to the table. 13. If pressure readings differ greatly from the table, refer to Incorrect Line Pressure. 14. Remove the J 21867. 15. Apply sealant, P/N 12345382 (in Canada, P/N 10953489), to the oil pressure test hole plug. 16. Install the oil pressure test hole plug. Tighten Tighten the oil pressure test hole plug to 12 N.m (106 lb in).

SERVICE PROCEDURE Prior methods of cooler flushing have not obtained the level of cooler cleaning and contaminant removal that is required to prevent repeat repairs. The “Turbo-Tank Heated Cooler Line Flusher” uses heated Automatic Transmission Fluid ( ATF ) and a pulsating action to loosen system contamination. Previous equipment used solvents to clean & flush coolers, lines and torque- converters. There are 2 issues with this method: Aerosol Solvents should never be used for several reasons. NOTE YOU MUST IDENTIFY THE RETURN COOLER LINE TO START THE BACK FLUSHING PROCEDURE. A quick way to identify the return cooler line (fluid coming out of the cooler and returning to the transmission) is to locate the return cooler line fitting on the transmission case . Refer to the following lists: Rear Wheel Drive ^Residual solvent contamination can cause damage to friction bonding materials within the transmission (Clutches and Bands). ^Lack of fluid heating and agitation prevents this method from completely removing contamination from lines, in-radiator coolers and auxiliary coolers. ^They do not provide the volume necessary to remove heavy contaminants. ^They evaporate quickly and essentially leave contaminants in pockets, bends, or wherever they are as the solvent dries. ^TORQSHIFT, 4R100, E40D, C6 – The REAR transmission case filling receives the return line. ^4R70W, AODE, AOD – The TOP transmission case filling receives the return line. ^A4LD, 4R44/55E, 5R55E, 5R55N, 5R55W, 5R55S The TOP transmission case filling receives the return line. ^CD4E – The REAR or Pump End transaxle case fitting receives the return line. ^4F27E – The REAR or Cover End transaxle case fitting receives the return line. ^AXOD, AXODE, AX4S, AX4N, 4F50N – The BOTTOM transaxle cooler line fitting receives the return line. 1. Check and top off fluid level of the “Turbo-Tank Heated Cooler Line Flusher” tank with transmission fluid. 2. Allow the fluid in the flusher 15-30 minutes to heat up to 140°F (60°C) before using. 3. Install line adapters into the transmission cooler lines. 4. Attach the flusher’s blue line to the transmission return cooler line quick disconnect. 5. Attach the flusher’s red line to the transmission outlet cooler line quick disconnect. a. Follow equipment instructions, to purge cooler lines and cooler prior to starting flushing procedure (using factory installed purge valve and clear hose on “Turbo-Tank Heated Cooler Line Flusher”). 6. Allow the cooling system to back-flush for 10-15 minutes, then flush the cooler in a forward/normal flow direction for an additional 10-15 minutes
