Non-Enhanced EVAP System Diagnostic Procedure 1. Pinch off or plug the EVAP vapor line to seal the EVAP system. 2. Connect the EEST red battery clip to the positive (+) battery terminal. Connect the black battery clip to chassis ground. 3. Install the appropriate fuel fill cap adapter to the fuel fill pipe. Refer to the Service Information for the appropriate fuel fill cap adapter part number. 4. Connect the EEST’s nitrogen/smoke supply hose and vehicle fuel fill cap to the adapter. 5. Turn the nitrogen/smoke valve on the EEST control panel to SMOKE. 6. Use the remote switch to introduce smoke into the EVAP system for 60 seconds. Important: Additional smoke may need to be introduced at 15-second intervals until the leak source has been located. 7. Inspect the entire EVAP system for exiting smoke using the high intensity white light (J 41413-SPT). Enhanced EVAP System Leak Detection Procedure When diagnosing DTCs P0440, P0442, P0446 and P0455, use the J 41413-200 EEST along with 1. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF. 2. Command the EVAP vent valve closed with a scan tool.* *Prizm: In order to seal the EVAP system on the 1998-2002 Prizm, bypass the EVAP canister by connecting the fuel tank vapor hose to the canister purge line. Refer to the Service Information for additional information. 3. Connect the EEST red battery clip to the positive (+) battery terminal. Connect the black battery clip to chassis ground. 4. Install the appropriate fuel fill cap adapter to the fuel fill pipe. Refer to the Service Information for the appropriate fuel fill cap adapter part number. 5. Connect the EEST’s nitrogen/smoke supply hose and vehicle fuel fill cap to the adapter. 6. Turn the nitrogen/smoke valve on the EEST control panel to SMOKE. 7. Use the remote switch to introduce smoke into the EVAP system. 8. Use the J 41413-VLV EVAP Port Vent Fitting tool to open the EVAP service port (if equipped) until smoke is observed. 9. Remove the J 41413-VLV EVAP Port Vent Fitting tool once smoke is observed. Important: Additional smoke may need to be introduced at 15-second intervals until the leak source has been located.

Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Vent Solenoid Valve Replacement Pickup Removal Procedure Important Clean the evaporative emission (EVAP) connections and surrounding areas prior to disconnecting the fittings in order to avoid possible system contamination. 1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information. 2. Remove the harness clip from the canister vent solenoid (CVS) line. 3. Disconnect the CVS electrical connector. 2004 Chevrolet Chevy K Silverado – 4WD 4. If the vehicle is equipped with a 6 ft box, disconnect the EVAP CVS line from the canister. 5. Remove the CVS clip from the frame crossmember. 6. Push in the retainer and remove the CVS from the fuel tank clip. 7. If the vehicle is equipped with a 8 ft box, disconnect the EVAP CVS line from the canister. 8. Remove the CVS clip from the frame crossmember. 9. Push in the retainer and remove the CVS from the fuel tank clip. Installation Procedure 1. If the vehicle is equipped with a 8 ft box, install the CVS to the fuel tank until the clip engages. Important On vehicles equipped with a 8 ft box, the CVS line is routed below the frame crossmember. 2. Install the CVS clip to the frame crossmember. 3. Connect the EVAP CVS line to the canister. 4. If the vehicle is equipped with a 6 ft box, install the CVS to the fuel tank until the clip engages. Important On vehicles equipped with a 6 ft box, the CVS line is routed above the frame crossmember. 5. Install the CVS clip to the frame crossmember. 6. Connect the EVAP CVS line to the canister. 7. Connect the CVS electrical connector. 8. Install the harness clip to the canister vent solenoid (CVS) line. 9. Lower the vehicle.

Guided Step 2A – Record findings for inlet restriction. Conditions Turn keyswitch OFF. Action Install a restriction gauge at the lift pump inlet. Install a pressure gauge at the fuel filter inlet. Refer to Procedure 005-045 (Fuel Lift Pump) in Section 5 in the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, ISB and QSB5.9 Engines, Bulletin 3666193. Install a clear line at the fuel filter outlet and run the line into a bucket. With gauges and the clear line in place, bump the starter and leave the keyswitch ON. The lift pump will run for 25 to 30 seconds. While the
lift pump is running, record the inlet restriction. Note: Steps 2A through 2D can be observed and recorded with a single bump of the starter. OK NOT OK Restriction less than 152 mm Hg [6 in Hg] Inlet restriction greater than 152 mm Hg [6 in Hg] Find source of excessive restriction between the lift pump inlet and fuel tank. Tighten Tighten the bracket mounting bolt to 12 N?m (106 lb in). Connect the vent valve pipe to the EVAP canister. • Install the two vent valve pipe clips into the existing underbody holes. • Connect the EVAP canister vent valve electrical connector, if equipped. • Attach bulk 5/8″ heater hose to the vent valve port and secure using a clamp. Run a length as needed along the frame rail routing to the area above the transmission. • Cut the hose to determined length and install the supplied filter box. Secure using a clamp. • Remove the transmission support and lower the transmission assembly as necessary to allow for access to the new filter box location using a tie strap. DO NOT pinch or restrict the transmission vent hose. The filter box opening should be pointing downward. • Raise the transmission and reinstall the transmission support. • Tie strap the hose as needed along the frame rail in order to keep the hose away from pinch*points and heat sources. • Lower the vehicle. • 2004-2007 Model Year (Use Service Kit P/N 19152349) Raise the vehicle. Suitably support the vehicle. • Disconnect the EVAP canister vent valve electrical connector. • Disconnect the canister pipe from the vent valve. • Push in the retainer and remove the existing canister vent valve from the fuel tank clip or mounting bracket. Discard the old valve. • Cut back the existing canister pipe approximately 51 mm (2 in) to remove the quick connect end. Crew Cab Short Box Shown Below, Other Configurations Similar Extended Cab Short Box Shown Below, Other Configurations Similar Install the new canister vent valve to the fuel tank clip or mounting bracket. • Cut bulk 5/8″ heater hose to a length of approximately 76 mm (3 in). Install the hose between the vent valve and the canister pipe and secure using clamps. • Attach bulk 5/8″ heater hose to the vent valve port and secure using a clamp. Run a length as needed along the frame rail routing to the area above the transmission. • Cut the hose to determined length and install the supplied filter box. Secure using a clamp. •

SUBJECT: TIMING CONNECTOR LOCATION CHANGE MODELS: 1994 CHEVROLET AND GMC C/K TRUCKS WITH GASOLINE ENGINES The timing connector, which can be disconnected to return engine timing to base for adjustment purposes, has been moved from the engine compartment to inside the cab. This new location is not currently reflected in the Service or Owner’s Manual. The new location is under the dash directly below the glove compartment. The tan/black wire is routed for a short distance outside of a large wiring harness. This large harness is routed between the heater blower motor and evaporator case. The timing connector is taped to the wire bundle (Figure 1)

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION NOTE: For 2004, manufacturer does not provide a timing belt replacement interval. CAUTION: This application is an interference engine. Do not rotate camshaft or crankshaft when timing belt is removed, or engine damage may occur. NOTE: Engine code AEG is stamped into machined pad on front of cylinder block above crankcase breather, near cylinder head mating surface. See Fig. 1 . For all other 2.0L engines, engine code is stamped on transmission mating flange at the rear of the engine. See Fig. 2 . For all engines, code can also be found on the vehicle data plate and on a sticker on the timing belt cover. Remove right hand insulation tray from engine compartment. Remove engine cover. Rotate serpentine belt tensioner clockwise to relieve belt tension. Remove serpentine belt. See Fig. 3 . Lock in place using Mandrel (T10060) or a drift. Fig. 3: Releasing Serpentine Belt Tensioner Courtesy of VOLKSWAGEN UNITED STATES, INC. 2. Remove serpentine belt tensioner assembly. See Fig. 4 . Turn crankshaft to TDC position. See Fig. 5 . Align TDC marks visible in bellhousing access hole. See Fig. 6 . Remove upper timing belt cover. Ensure camshaft sprocket timing mark aligns with mark on rear cover. See Fig. 5 . 3. Support engine from above or below with floor jack to take engine weight off of mounts. Remove coolant reservoir and set aside. On Golf and Jetta, remove power steering reservoir (hoses attached), and set aside. On New Beetle, pull off EVAP hoses at EVAP canister and throttle valve housing. 4. On all models, remove engine mount from timing belt end of engine. See Fig. 7 . Remove crankshaft pulley from crankshaft sprocket. It is NOT necessary to remove center bolt (center bolt is torque-to-yield type that must be replaced if removed). 5. Remove timing belt covers. Remove engine support from front of engine. See Fig. 4

1) First perform an indicator check to see if all the lights are working properly. Press and hold the AUTO & REC buttons and then start the car. Release the buttons after the car has started. All the lights should light up and go off 4 times in a row at one second intervals. You should also hear a beep as the indicators light up. After the indicators blink 4 times you’re in A/C diagnostic mode. 2) Read the code displayed on the LCD. Here you see a code 21; this can happen if you’re not in light because it refers to the solar sensor. 3) Here’s what normal will look like, code 00. When the codes are displayed they blink and beep. Here are all the codes that can be displayed……… Code – Meaning 00 – Normal 11 – Open or short in room temperature sensor circuit. 12 – Open or short in ambient temperature sensor circuit. 13 – Open or short in evaporator temperature sensor circuit. 14 – Open or short in water temperature sensor circuit. 21* – Open or short in solar sensor circuit. 22* – Compressor motor locked. And/or, open or short in compressor lock sensor circuit. 31 – Open or short in air mix damper position sensor circuit. 32 – Open or short in air inlet damper position sensor circuit. 33 – Open in air mix damper position sensor circuit. Or, open or short in air mix servomotor circuit. Or, air mix servomotor locked. 34 – Open in air inlet damper position sensor circuit. Or, open or short in air inlet sensor servomotor circuit. Or, air inlet servomotor locked. * – These are detected only when they are the current troubles. Other codes detect both current trouble (beep) and past trouble (no beep). A/C indicator light blinks – This means your A/C compressor is locked. It’s happened to me before and I needed a new (rebuilt) compressor installed. 4) Once you’ve read any codes you can proceed to performing an actuator check by pressing the REC button. This will start a check of different combinations for the system starting with code 20 and moving up to 29. To cancel this or the previous diagnostic modes simply press the OFF button.

1. Turn the ignition OFF and disconnect the vehicle’s negative battery cable. 2. Disconnect the mass air sensor electrical connection. 3. Depress the center pins on the push clips on the radiator core support cover. 4. Remove the radiator core support cover. 5. Unclip the relay and fuse box and move out the way. 6. Loosen and remove the bolt on the radiator core support. 7. Unclip the PWM vacuum switching valve from the air cleaner assembly. 8. Pull to remove the computer fresh air tube. 9. Loosen the clamps on the stock intake tube, then remove the stock intake tube. 10. Remove the two stock rubber hoses from the air cleaner lid. 11. Remove the EVAP OBD canister closed valve vent hose from the hard line. 12. Push back, and pull up to gain access to the bottom of the air cleaner assembly. 13. Remove the vacuum hose from the intake manifold. 14. Disconnect the vacuum switching valve electrical connection. 15. Using a pair of pliers unclip the wire harness from the back of the air cleaner assembly. 16. Disconnect the EVAP OBD canister closed valve electrical connection. 17. Remove the complete air cleaner assembly. 18. Disconnect the PWM vacuum switching valve electrical connection. 19. Remove the stock bracket from the PWM vacuum switching valve. 20. Remove the mass air sensor from the air cleaner assembly. 21. Loosen and remove the EVAP OBD canister closed valve from the air cleaner assembly. 22. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the vacuum switching valve, then remove the vacuum switching valve from the bottom of the air cleaner assembly. 23. Remove the two vent hoses from the EVAP OBD canister closed valve. 24. Install the mass air sensor into the intake tube and secure. 25. Loosen and remove the stock nut on the relay and fuse box support bracket. 26. Install the EVAP OBD canister closed valve assembly into the vehicle and connect the hose to the hard line, then secure the bracket to the relay and fuse box support bracket using the nut removed before

2006 and Prior GM Passenger Cars and Light Duty Trucks 2005-2006 HUMMER H2 2006 HUMMER H3 2005-2006 Saab 9-7X with 4L60-E, 4L65-E, 4L80-E or 4L85-E Automatic Transmission (RPOs M30, M32, M33, MT1, MN8) 1. With the ignition switch in the RUN position, test for battery voltage at the circuit fuse in the transmission solenoid power supply circuit. Refer to the appropriate SI Document for the transmission solenoid power supply circuit information. 2. If battery voltage is present at the fuse, inspect the ignition voltage circuit between the fuse and the transmission for possible opens. 3. If battery voltage is not present at the fuse, test for continuity between the fuse and the ignition switch. If NO ontinuity is between the fuse and the ignition switch, repair the open in that circuit. 4. If you have continuity between the fuse and the ignition switch, the most likely cause is the ignition switch. Replace the ignition switch using the appropriate Ignition Switch Replacement procedure in SI. Refer to group number 2.188 of the parts catalog for part description and usage of the ignition switch.
