Procedures 1. Disconnect the alternator and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Check the Violet (VT) (GENerator MONitor or GENMON) wire from the alternator to pin 20 of the PCM connector and the Red/Pink (RD/PK) (GENerator COMmand or GENCOM) wire from the alternator to pin 45 of the PCM for high resistance, an open, or a short to ground. Repair the wiring as needed. 2. If the wiring checks OK, reconnect the PCM and alternator. Start the engine and monitor the VT wire for a roughly 0-10v square wave signal. The signal will be around 40-50% normally with no loads on the system and minimal charging system output. As the load increases, the duty cycle should increase (NOTE: the duty cycle is a positive duty cycle so as the duty cycle increases, the voltage high time increases). 3. If there is no signal on the wire, disconnect the alternator and with key on check the VT wire for roughly 9-10v from the PCM. If OK, jump the Orange/Light Blue (OG/LB) wire to battery voltage and recheck operation with everything connected. This wire should be battery voltage at all time. If the OG/LB wire has battery voltage, the VT wire shows voltage from the PCM but there is no signal on it with the alternator charging, suspect a faulty, defective or incorrect alternator

ON-VEHICLE TESTING NO LOAD TEST 1) Disconnect alternator terminal “B” wire. Using an ammeter and voltmeter, connect negative ammeter lead to disconnected alternator terminal “B” wire and positive lead to alternator terminal “B”. Connect voltmeter positive lead to alternator terminal “B” and negative lead to ground. See Fig. 1. the first and most important thing to do when you receive your replacement alternator, assuming it’s not a direct replacement, is to make up a simple measuring jig for it. This is nothing more than a 1′ or 1 ½” angle with 2 holes drilled to simultaneously hold both alternators by the rear of the lower (i.e. longer) mounting tab. See Figure 3 for the one I built in about 1 minute. This fixture allowed me to line up the pulleys, and then measure the difference between the back of the lower mounting tab and the front of the tab, giving me the new measurement for the lower mounting bracket Figure 3. Pulleys are lined up; note how easy it is to measure the distance from measurement fixture (the 1 ½” angle) to the front of the lower mounting tabs of both alternators. The difference in this distance is the measurement that the lower mounting bracket needs to be lengthened. Note the use of the 8 washers to move the Powermaster alternator forward. Note from Figure 2 that the OEM lower mounting tab is slightly longer than the Powermaster 47294 (2.285″ vs. 2″). From the measurements taken from the fixture, I then cut the lower mounting bracket and rewelded it, making it approximately ¾” longer. For strength, I added a ¼” x 1″ x 2.5″ long steel flat bar to the side of the bracket. See Figure 4 for a picture of the lower mounting bracket as modified and installed. When I rewelded the lower bracket, I made it approximately one 3/8″ washer (~.085″) longer than I thought I needed. As it turned out, this was fortuitous since when tightening the lower bracket, it pulls the front tab and therefore the alternator and its pulley, to the rear by a very slight amount. This added length was just enough to keep the alternator pulley lined up with the crankshaft pulley

DIAGNOSIS 1. Start the engine, and let it idle until it warms up. Does the idle fluctuate, or is there a customer complaint of an intermittent idle fluctuation? Yes – Odyssey : Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE A. Pilot : Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B. No – Go to step 2. 2. Connect the HDS to the vehicle’s DLC, and check for DTCs. Is DTC P1129 or P0505 stored? Yes – Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B. No – Continue with normal troubleshooting. REPAIR PROCEDURE A 1. Connect the HDS to the vehicle’s DLC. 2. Start the engine, and turn on the HDS. 3. When prompted, enter the VIN and the odometer reading 4. From the System Selection Menu screen, select PGM-FI . 5. From the Mode Menu, select DATA LIST . 6. Scroll down the list to PSP SWITCH . Watch the reading in the Value column. 7. Check for a broken power steering pressure switch wire by wiggling the P/S pressure switch wire harness at the switch while you check the Value column reading. •If the reading changes between on and off when you wiggle the harness, go to step 8. •If the reading does not change between on and off when you wiggle the harness, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B. 8. Raise the vehicle on a lift, and remove the right front wheel to access the power steering pressure switch. 9. Disconnect the connector from the switch, and release the harness clip from the body. NOTE: You may need to disconnect the Secondary HO2S connector to free the end of the harness from the body. 10. Lower the vehicle, and pull the harness up for easier access to make the repair. 11. Remove the rubber seal from the connector, and remove the terminals from the connector noting the GRN wire and BLK wire locations. 12. Remove the tape from the corrugated tube and the wires up to the harness clip; mark the wires at the end of the corrugated tube

Connect a J 39200 DMM (continuity) between the I/P Cluster connector and connector C2 of the TR Switch to those circuit(s) that connected to the faulty PRNDL indicators. Is continuity present in the circuit(s) tested? — Go to Step 6 Go to Step 5 5 Locate and repair the open in the circuit(s) that are faulty between the TR Switch and the I/P Cluster. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems. Is the repair complete? — Go to Instrument Cluster System Check — 6 Connect a J 39200 DMM (continuity) between the I/P Cluster connector and ground to those circuit(s) that connected to the faulty PRNDL indicators. Is continuity present in the circuit(s) tested? — Go to Step 7 Go to Step 8 Locate and repair the short to ground in the circuit(s) that are faulty between the TR Switch and the I/P Cluster. Transmission Repair 1. Remove the transmission. Refer to the appropriate SI procedure. 2. Disassemble and inspect the transmission. Refer to Unit Repair Automatic Transmission – 4L60-E/4L65-E. Important: Subject: 4L60-E Automatic Transmission/Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Shudder, Water in Transmission (Repair Transmission and Replace Transmission Filler Tube, Level Indicator and Seal) Models: 2004-2005 Buick Rainier 2003-2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer Models 2003-2005 GMC Envoy Models 2003-2004 Oldsmobile Bravada 2005 Saab 9-7X with 4.2L In-Line 6 Cylinder Engine (VIN S — RPO LL8) • Visible rust on the transmission fluid level indicator. • Visible water in the oil pan. • A milky white substance inside the pan area. • Spacer plate gaskets that appear to be glued to the spacer plate, valve body or case. • Rust on internal transmission iron/steel components. • Remove the surge tank cap and examine the coolant for signs of contamination with transmission fluid (the coolant will have a milky, not clear appearance). • If the coolant has a normal, clear appearance, the radiator should not be replaced. • The cooler can also be tested by following the Coolant System Leak Test procedure (SI Document ID# 877442). Do NOT replace a radiator without verifying that the transmission oil cooler is leaking. If water or coolant is found in the transmission, the following components MUST be replaced. Replace the Transmission Fluid Filler Tube, Seal and Fluid Level Indicator WITH the transmission REMOVED from vehicle. 1. Remove the transmission fluid filler tube from the transmission. 2. Replace the transmission fill tube seal, P/N 1259475. 3. Replace the transmission fill tube, P/N 15000220, following the appropriate SI Document for Transmission Installation. 4. Replace the transmission fluid level indicator, P/N 15069769 when appropriate during the transmission installation. Replace the Transmission Fluid Filler Tube, Seal and Fluid Level Indicator with the transmission in the vehicle. 1. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Element Replacement (SI Document ID# 1364496). 2. Remove the transmission fluid level indicator from the filler tube. 3. Remove the filler tube nut (2) located on the right side of the engine. 4. Remove the filler tube from the vehicle. Tip It is necessary to remove the two A/C line (suction line / low side of muffler hose) retainers and reposition • Replace all of the rubber type seals. • Replace all of the composition-faced clutch plate assemblies including the band. • Replace all of the nylon parts (Thrust Washers). • Replace the torque converter. • Thoroughly clean and rebuild the transmission, using new gaskets and oil filter. • Flush and flow check the transmission oil cooler using J 45096. Refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 02-07-30- 052C or newer – Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Flush and Flow Test Essential Tool J 45096 TransFlow .
the A/C line to allow proper clearance for installation of the new transmission fluid fill tube. 5. Remove the A/C line at the oil level indicator tube bracket nut. 6. Remove the A/C bracket bolt from the engine lift hook. 7. Reposition the A/C line upward. 8. Install the new transmission filler tube, P/N 15000220, into position but NOT into the transmission at this time. 9. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information (SI Document ID# 744862). 10. Remove the two bolts securing the transmission heat shield to the transmission. 11. Remove the transmission heat shield from the transmission. 12. Remove the old filler tube seal from the transmission case. 13. Install a new seal, P/N 1259475 into the transmission case. 14. Position the new transmission filler tube into the transmission seal. 15. Install the transmission heat shield to the transmission. 16. Install the two bolts securing the transmission heat shield to the transmission. Tighten Tighten the bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft). 17. Lower the vehicle. 18. Install the nut securing the filler tube to the stud. Tighten Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in). 19. Reposition the A/C line into place. 20. Install the A/C line bracket to the oil level indicator tube stud and secure the bracket with the nut. 21. Install the A/C line bracket to the engine lift bracket and secure the A/C bracket with the bolt

Brake Noise: A squeak, squeal, clunk, or groan that occurs when the brakes are applied or released. b. Brake Judder: A vibration that can be felt in the vehicle, steering wheel, or brake pedal when the brakes are applied. c. Pedal Feel: The effort needed to operate the brakes is too high or too low. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Verify the condition by road testing the vehicle with the customer. 2. Determine the specific brake issue based on the description in the Service Information above. 3. Follow the appropriate repair procedure(s), listed on the following pages, for your specific issue. BRAKE NOISE • Brakes can make a range of noises when applied or released. Some noises are normal and no repair action should be taken. • Use the following descriptions to identify the specific type of brake noise and the appropriate repair: Squeak noise when the brakes are cold: • Usually occurs during the first few stops in the morning. • This is a normal condition.
