High Tension Wire Resistance 1. Set ohmmeter to x 1000 range and attach leads to each end of high tension wire. On Isuzu I’Mark and P’UP, resistance should not exceed 73,500 ohms per foot. 2. 1998 – 2000 MODELS 1. Inspect main ground points (refer to SB99*04*S001 for more information). * P6 ground point-body [on the passenger side of engine compartment, between the battery and cruise control actuator (if equipped)]. (Figure Fig. 1 ) * P10 ground point-engine (at the alternator bracket) . (Figure Fig. 2 ) Isuzu: 1998 – 2000 Rodeo AFFECTED VEHICLES:1998 – 2000 Rodeo (UE)/Amigo (UA) models with 3.2L V6 engines NOTE: Please refer to the appropriate workshop manual for the correct diagnosing procedure and/or follow the service procedures outlined in this bulletin for the vehicle being serviced. NOTE: The 1998, 1999 or 2000 Rodeo/Amigo Electrical Troubleshooting Manual can assist in locating the vehicle ground distribution (i.e., ground contact points). * Perform a voltage drop test at the main ground points. * If the voltage drop test fails, then inspect and clean both the bolt and contact point. * Verify and correct idle settings (if needed) as described in the workshop manual. * If the repair procedure on this step solves the high idle condition, then return the vehicle to the customer. If the repair procedure on this step does not solve the high idle condition, then go to step 2 (16 pin Blue Connector). B. Remove P-6/P-10 ground terminal and bolt for ground contact inspection. * Inspect ground contact area for corrosion. * Inspect bolt and thread for damage or corrosion. * Clean the ground area and fastening bolt thoroughly with a wire brush. * Replace bolt if damaged or heavily corroded. C. Install the P-6/P-10 ground terminal and bolt (tighten using hand tools only). * Torque the P-6/P-10 ground terminal bolt to (14 N.m) 10 lb.ft. 1998 – 1999 MODELS ONLY 2. Inspect the 16 pin blue connector, located under the power steering fluid reservoir for corrosion, bent, or damaged pins (specifically for the Throttle Position Sensor). (Figure Fig. 3 )


HIGH TENSION WIRE RESISTANCE Carefully remove high tension wires from spark plugs and distributor cap. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance of wires while gently twisting wires. If resistance is not to specifications, or fluctuates from infinity to any value, replace high tension wire(s). ADJUSTMENTS DISTRIBUTOR All models are equipped with Mitsubishi electronic ignition with 2 pick-up coils. Air gap is non-adjustable IGNITION TIMING 1. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Connect a tachometer, then connect timing light to leading (lower) spark plug of front rotor. Start engine and run at idle speed. 2. Check ignition timing and rotate distributor to correct if necessary. Tighten distributor lock nut and recheck timing. 3. Connect timing light to trailing (upper) plug of front rotor. Start engine and check timing. If not correct, loosen vacuum unit attaching screws. Move vacuum unit in or out to adjust trailing timing. Remove test equipment.

EMISSION MAINTENANCE WARNING MODULE SERVICE INFORMATION ^LAMP – “EMISSIONS/CHECK ENGINE” – EMISSION MAINTENANCE WARNING MODULE – SERVICE INFORMATION LIGHT TRUCK: 1985-89 BRONCO 1985-87 BRONCO II 1985-89 ECONOLINE, F- 150, F-250, F-350 1985-88 RANGER 1986-87 AEROSTAR ISSUE: The Emission Maintenance Warning “EMW” module operates a light that is located on the instrument panel. For 1985-87 model year vehicles, the light will display the word “EMISSIONS”. For 1988-89 model year vehicles, the light will display the words “CHECK ENGINE”. When the light is lit, it is indicating that the 60,000 mile emission maintenance should be performed. After the maintenance is performed the EMW module must be reset to zero time. Another type of module is the “IMS” module. This module is not part of the light circuit and does not require maintenance. At a predetermined time, the IMS module directs the EEC IV processor to make a strategy change. A third type of module is the “COMBO” module. This module combines the functions of the IMS and the EMW modules. ACTION: Refer to the following module application charts for the specific vehicle application and location of the different types of modules. NOTE: FOR APPLICATIONS NOT LOSTED IN THE FOLLOWING MODULE APPLICATION CHARTS, THE “CHECK ENGINE” LIGHT IS CONTROLLED BY THE EEC IV PROCESSOR. THESE VEHICLES DO NOT USE THE “EMW” MODULE


TIMING BELT Removal 1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner assembly. Remove upper fan shroud. Remove cooling fan assembly. Remove all accessory drive belts. 2. Remove fan pulley assembly. Remove crankshaft pulley bolt. Using Puller (J-8614-01) or equivalent, remove crankshaft pulley. Remove oil cooler hose from timing cover. Remove timing belt cover. Installation 1. Ensure all timing marks are aligned. Install belt over one pulley at a time starting at crankshaft sprocket and working counterclockwise. Belt should go over tensioner last. Secure belt at each pulley during installation with pinch clips. See Fig. 5 . 2. Compress timing belt tensioner pusher and insert pin to retain pusher. Apply pressure to tensioner against belt, and install tensioner pusher. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . 3. Loosen tensioner pulley bolt. Apply pressure on belt by rotating tensioner. Tighten tensioner pulley bolt to specification.. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Remove pin from timing belt tensioner pusher. 4. Remove pinch clips from timing belt (if used). Install crankshaft pulley, tightening center bolt finger tight. Rotate crankshaft 2 turns clockwise.
