DENSO A/C COMPRESSOR REMOVAL NOTE: * The compressor clutch assembly can be serviced with the refrigerant system fully-charged. * Typical A/C compressor shown in illustrations. 1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. 2. Remove the accessory drive belt. 3. Disconnect the engine wire harness from the compressor clutch field coil connector (1) located on the top of the A/C compressor (5) . Remove the bolts that secure the A/C compressor to the engine and support the A/C compressor. 5. Carefully remove the compressor clutch field coil connector and wire lead from the connector bracket (2). 6. Remove the compressor shaft bolt (3). A band-type oil filter wrench or a strap wrench may be used to hold the clutch plate (4) from rotating during bolt removal. CAUTION: Do not pry between the clutch plate and the pulley and bearing assembly to remove the clutch plate from the compressor shaft as this may damage the clutch plate. NOTE: Use care not to lose any clutch shim(s) during removal of the clutch plate, as they may be reused during the clutch plate installation process. 7. Tap the clutch plate (2) lightly with a plastic mallet to release it from the splines on the compressor shaft (1) and remove the clutch plate and shim(s) (3). 8. Using snap ring pliers (2), remove the snap ring (1) that secures the pulley and bearing assembly (3) to the front of the A/C compressor and remove the pulley and bearing assembly. 9. Using snap ring pliers (Special Tool C-4574 or equivalent) (1), remove the snap ring (4) that secures the compressor clutch field coil (2) to the front of the A/C compressor (3) and remove the field coil. INSTALLATION NOTE: Typical A/C compressor shown in illustrations. 1. Align the dowel pin on the back of the compressor clutch field coil (2) with the hole in the front of the A/C compressor (3) and position the field coil onto the compressor. Be certain that the compressor clutch field coil wire lead is properly routed so that it is not pinched between the A/C compressor and the field coil. CAUTION: The snap ring must be fully and properly seated in the groove or it will vibrate out, resulting in a clutch failure and severe damage to the A/C compressor. NOTE: A new snap ring must be used to secure the compressor clutch field coil to the A/C compressor. The bevel side of the snap ring must face outward and both snap ring eyelets must be oriented to the right or to the left of the field coil dowel pin location on the A/C compressor. 2. Using snap ring pliers (Special Tool C-4574 or equivalent) (1), install the snap ring (4) that secures the compressor clutch field coil to the front of the A/C compressor. Be certain that the snap ring is fully and properly seated in the groove and oriented correctly. CAUTION: * Be certain to position the compressor clutch field coil wire lead so that

DISCONNECT PS PUMP FROM ENGINE a. Disconnect the 2 PS air hoses from the air intake chamber and resonator. b. Remove the bolt holding the PS pressure tube clamp to the frame. c. Remove the drive belt. d. Remove the bolt and nut, and disconnect the PS pump from the engine. 5. w/ A/C: DISCONNECT A/C COMPRESSOR FROM ENGINE a. Disconnect the A/C compressor connector. b. Remove the drive belt. c. Remove the 4 bolts, and disconnect the A/C compressor from the engine. 6. LOOSEN FAN WITH FLUID COUPLING AND FAN PULLEYS 7. REMOVE DRIVE BELT FOR GENERATOR 8. REMOVE NO.2 FAN SHROUD 9. REMOVE FAN WITH FLUID COUPLING AND FAN PULLEYS 10. w/ A/C: REMOVE A/C COMPRESSOR BRACKET Remove the 5 bolts and A/C compressor bracket. 11. DISCONNECT UPPER RADIATOR HOSE 12. REMOVE NO.2 TIMING BELT COVER a. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector from the No. 2 timing belt cover. b. Disconnect the 4 high-tension cord clamps from the No. 2 timing belt cover. c. Remove the 6 bolts and timing belt cover. 13. REMOVE FAN BRACKET a. Remove the nut and PS pump adjusting strut. b. Remove the bolt, nut and fan bracket. 14. SET NO. 1 CYLINDER AT TDC/COMPRESSION a. Turn the crankshaft pulley and align its groove with timing mark “0″ of the No. 1 timing belt cover. b. Check that the timing marks of the camshaft timing pulleys and No. 3 timing belt cover are aligned. If not, turn the crankshaft pulley 1 revolution (360°) . HINT: When re-using timing belt: Place the matchmarks on the timing belt and camshaft timing pulleys, and place matchmark on timing belt to match the end of the No. 1 timing belt cover. 15. REMOVE TIMING BELT TENSIONER Alternately loosen the 2 bolts, and remove them, the belt tensioner and dust boot. 16. REMOVE TIMING BELT

Power Steering Belt REMOVAL POWER STEERING PUMP AND AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR BELT 1. Using a 17 mm wrench, rotate belt tensioner clockwise (Fig. 2) until belt can be removed from power steering pump pulley. Gently, release spring tension on tensioner. 2. Remove the drive belt (Fig. 3). Clean all foreign debris from belt pulley grooves. The belt pulleys must be free of oil, grease, and coolants before installing the drive belt. INSPECTION Belt replacement under any or all of the following conditions is required: ^Excessive wear ^Frayed cords ^Severe glazing Poly-V Belt system may develop minor cracks across the ribbed side (due to reverse bending). These minor cracks are considered normal and acceptable. Parallel cracks are not (Fig. 6). NOTE: Do not use any type of belt dressing or restorer on Poly-V Belts. INSTALLATION NOTE: When installing drive belt on the pulleys, make sure that belt is properly routed and all V-grooves make proper contact with pulley grooves. POWER STEERING PUMP AND AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR BELT 1. Install the drive belt (Fig. 3) over all the pulleys except for the power steering pump pulley 2. SERVICE PROCEDURE You will be performing the following, as required: • Determine the DTC Stored in ECM from the CONSULT-II Self-diagnosis results. • ECM Part Number Check to determine if this bulletin applies. • ECM Reprogramming (required if the ECM P/N in the vehicle matches one of those listed under “Current ECM P/N” in Chart A -page 2). • Replacing the Rear Oxygen Sensor (required if ECM Reprogramming is needed). Determine the DTC Stored in ECM: 1. Determine which DTC code is stored in the vehicle’s ECM by performing CONSULT-II Self-Diagnosis. 2. Print out the Self-Diagnosis results for use in ECM Part Number Check , below. See Figure 1 for an example of the CONSULT-II Self-Diagnosis printout. Removal Procedure 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Remove the floor console. 3. Remove the sun sensor and the automatic temperature controls assembly. 4. Remove the tweeter speakers and the stereo cassette AM/FM radio. Refer to Section 9F, Audio Systems. 5. Remove the screws and the instrument panel storage compartment. 6. Remove the instrument cluster dimmer switch assembly. 7. Remove the instrument cluster. 8. Remove the chime module. 9. Remove the kick panels. 10. Remove the glove box. 11. Remove the screws and the glove box housing. 12. Disconnect the glove box housing electrical connectors. 13. Remove the knee bolster. 14. Lower the steering column. 17. Remove the screw behind the stereo cassette AM/FM radio. 18. Remove the screw securing the instrument panel to the heater air distributor case. 19. Remove the instrument panel bolts below the windshield. 22. Remove the bolts securing the bottom of the instrument panel to the floor. 23. Remove the instrument panel. Installation Procedure 1. Position the instrument panel in the vehicle. 2. Connect the instrument panel electrical connectors. NOTE: Dissimilar metals in direct contact with each other may corrode rapidly. Make sure to use the correct fasteners to prevent premature corrosion. 3. Install the bolts securing the sides of the instrument panel to the body. Tighten Tighten the instrument panel-to-body bolts to 22 N.m (16 lb-ft) . 4. Install the bolts securing the bottom of the instrument panel to the floor. Tighten Tighten the instrument panel-to-floor bolts to 22 N.m (16 lb-ft) .

2000-2002 Buick Century, Regal 2000-2001 Chevrolet Lumina 2000-2002 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo 2000-2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 2000-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue 1. Verify that the coolant is at proper level in the radiator and the coolant recovery bottle. If the coolant is low, add proper amount of 50/50 water and DEX-COOL® mixture. If the low coolant light operates properly, diagnose the cooling system for loss of coolant as outlined in SI. DO NOT proceed further with this bulletin. 2. Remove the low coolant level sensor. Refer to Coolant Level Module Replacement in the Engine Cooling sub-section. 3. With the key on, the engine off and the coolant level sensor disconnected from the vehicle wiring harness, observe the low coolant light: Subject: Low Engine Coolant Level Indicator Always On (Diagnose Low Coolant Level System Operation/Check Sensor for Oil Contamination) Models: 2000-2002 Buick Century, Regal 2000-2001 Chevrolet Lumina 2000-2002 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo 2000-2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 2000-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue • Light is on — Chassis wiring or instrument cluster concern. Follow the appropriate diagnostic information in SI. • 4. With the key off, connect the coolant level sensor into the vehicle’s wiring harness. Connect a ground wire (1) to the battery negative terminal. Using a sharp probe (3) attached to the ground wire, ground the coolant sensor probe (2) as shown in the illustration. Make sure a good contact is made. With the key on and the engine off, observe the low coolant light for at least 15 seconds. 5. Using a small wire brush or emery cloth, polish the low coolant level sensor probe to remove any film or oxidation. The probe should be a bright brass color when finished. Use Brake Parts Cleaner to flush removed deposits from the low coolant sensor probe. Reinstall the low coolant sensor into the vehicle and proceed to Step 6. 6. Flush the cooling system and install new DEX-COOL® mixture as outlined in the SI. Check the vehicle’s warranty history to determine if any engine gasket had recently been changed. If there has not been a recent gasket replacement, locate and repair the source of the engine oil contamination

The throttle position (TP) sensor is a potentiometer that varies resistance according to changes in throttle plate position. The powertrain control module (PCM) measures the signal voltage from the TP sensor which is a reduced value of the PCM 5-volt reference. The voltage ranges from 0.4 (+/-0.2) volts at 0% throttle position to 4.7 volts at wide open throttle. DTC P0122 sets when the TP sensor signal voltage at the PCM is below the calibrated voltage value. DTC Parameters DTC P0122 will set if TP sensor voltage is less than 0.2 volts when: z The condition exists for longer than 10 seconds. z The ignition is ON. DTC P0122 diagnostic runs continuously with ignition ON. DTC P0122 is a type A DTC. Diagnostic Aids Important If DTC P1635 is set, diagnose that DTC first. 2002 Saturn SL
To locate an intermittent problem, use a scan tool to monitor TP SENSOR voltage with ignition ON, engine OFF. Wiggling the wires while watching for a change in TP SENSOR voltage may locate the area where an open or short to ground in the wiring could lie. An intermittent open in the TP SENSOR can cause this DTC to set. Use the scan tool to monitor TP SENSOR as the accelerator pedal is slowly depressed. The voltage should change smoothly from 0.4 volts at 0% throttle, to 4.7 volts at wide open throttle (+/-0.2 volts).

TOYOTA 4-Runner 1990-95 Pickup (standard cab) 1989-2002 / Pickup (extended cab) 1989-2002 Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent an accidental short circuit. Remove (3) screws and (1) 10mm bolt from the driver’s side speaker panel and remove the panel. Remove (1) 10mm bolt from the bottom of the passenger’s side speaker panel. Remove (3) screws from the side of the panel and remove the glove box. Remove (4) screws securing the factory head unit and disconnect the wiring. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent an accidental short circuit. Remove the climate control knobs. Unclip the climate control trim panel and remove (2) Phillips screws exposed. Unclip the dash trim bezel, lift up on the bezel and remove. DOUBLE DIN APPLICATIONS: Skip to the Installation Instructions for ALL VEHICLES on Page #3. SINGLE DIN APPLICATIONS: Cut and remove the bottom portion of the Radio Housing (see Fig. A) and Faceplate (see Fig. B). Skip to the Installation Instructions for ALL VEHICLES on Page #3. 12 1 2 TOYOTA Tacoma 1995-02 1 Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent an accidental short circuit.
