Trim Panels, Door Front Town Car The following procedure must be used during removal and installation of the door armrest and trim panel. Refer to the appropriate illustrations for component and vehicle model identification. Removal CAUTION: To avoid breakage of door pull cover(s), insert a screwdriver diagonally between pull strap and chrome bracket. Snap out both sides then remove. 1. Snap out two door pull strap retaining screw covers. Remove screws. 2. Remove two screws on front and rear side of front door trim panel. 3. Using the Trim Pad Removing Tool from Rotunda Moulding/Trim Kit 107-00401 or equivalent, pry the trim panel retaining clips from the door inner panel. NOTE: Do not use front door trim panel (23942) to remove trim clips from door inner panel. Replace any bent, damaged or missing push pins. 4. Remove window regulator control switch housing from back of front door trim panel . Lift up housing, remove retaining screws and disconnect all connectors. 5. Disconnect driver seat regulator control processor switch (driver door only) if equipped. 6. Twist out interior lamp wire assembly and remove the front door trim panel. Installation 1. Ensure plastic watershield is secured to door panel. 2. Position front door trim panel to door. Connect interior lamp wiring. 3. Position the window regulator control switch housing and connect switch connectors. 4. Connect driver seat regulator control processor (14C708) (driver door only) if equipped. 5. Align door lock side to its mating slide on the sheet metal (front doors only) 6. Snap in front door trim panel . Ensure all retainers fit properly. 7. Install two retaining screws on front and rear side of front door trim panel . 8. Install two retaining screws and pull strap covers. Removal 1. Remove outside rear view mirror remote control unit. 2. Remove window regulator control switch housing by gently prying up, starting at the front. 3. Disconnect all connectors from window regulator control switch housing. 4. Remove inside door handle cup (22634) by gently prying at screwdriver slot with a screwdriver. 5. Remove push pin from front door trim panel upper front extension and remove screw. 6. Remove lower self-tapping screw retaining front door trim panel to door inner panel. 7. On Grand Marquis only, pry up screw covers from door pull handle and remove screws and handle. 8. Lift front door trim panel upward and snap out trim panel. 9. Disconnect wire harnesses from door panel as required and remove front door trim panel . Installation 1. Connect wire harnesses to front door trim panel as required. 2. Install front door trim panel by pushing in and down until it snaps into place. 3. Install all self-tapping screws retaining front door trim panel to door inner panel. 4. On Grand Marquis only, install door pull handle, tighten screws and install screw covers. 5. Install push pin covering screw on trim panel upper front extension. 6. Install inside door handle cup . 7. Install window regulator control switch housing.

Hood and Trunk Front Door Latch Service and Repair Front Door Latch Front Door Latch Notes REMOVAL 1. Remove the front door trim panel . 2. Remove the side impact energy absorption panel. 3. Remove the screw (if equipped). 4. Detach the door latch remote control. 1. Detach the handle from the door panel. 2. Detach the door latch remote control. 5. Peel back the watershield. CAUTION: Do not touch the adhesive surface as re-bonding will be impaired. 6. Disconnect the door latch actuator electrical connector. 7. Remove the exterior door handle access hole grommet from the door. 8. Loosen the screw. NOTE: The screw must be fully disengaged from the door lock cylinder bezel although it is not necessary to fully remove the screw 9. Remove the door lock cylinder bezel. 10. Remove the exterior door handle. 1. Slide the exterior door handle to release. 2. Remove the exterior door handle and gaskets. 11. Remove the screws. 12. Loosen the screw. NOTE: The screw must be fully disengaged from the exterior door handle although it is not necessary to fully remove the screw. 13. Detach the door latch. 1. Press the door latch to release. 2. Detach the door latch. 14. Detach the door latch security shield. 15. Remove the door latch and exterior door handle reinforcement plate. 16. Disconnect the door lock cylinder connecting rod. 1. Rotate the clip counterclockwise to release the connecting rod. 2. Disconnect the connecting rod. 17. Disconnect the exterior door handle reinforcement plate connecting rod.

Removal Procedure 1. Lower the window to the full down position. 2. Remove the door trim panel . Remove the radio speaker. Refer to Speaker Replacement – Front Door in Entertainment. 4. Remove the water deflector in order to access the window regulator. Refer to Water Deflector Replacement – Front Door ( See: Body and FrameDoors, Hood and TrunkFront Door PanelService and RepairFront Door Panel ComponentsWater Deflector Replacement – Front Door ) . 5. Disengage the door glass to the regulator sash channel clips (2). Separate the door glass from the sash channel (1). 6. Push the window to the up position and tape in place. 7. Loosen the power window regulator bolts. Remove the rear regulator bolt. 8. Lift the window regulator, disengaging the loosened bolts from the door. 9. Disconnect the regulator electrical connector. 10. Remove the power window regulator from the door. Installation Procedure 1. Loosely install the four forward fasteners into the window regulator. 2. Honda Door Panel 96-00 Civic REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Remove the screw from behind the interior door handle Slide out the door handle trim as shown Removing the door panel from the passenger side door View of the inside of the door, panel removed 1. Remove the screw from the door handle trim. 2. Slide the handle assembly forward and out to access the lock rod clip. 3. Release the clip 4. Disconnect the door lock switch 5. Remove the door opener handle assembly. 6. Carefully pry at the small opening on the bottom of the speaker grill. 7. Remove the speaker grille. 8. Remove the speaker mounting screws. 9. Detach the electrical connector and remove the speaker. 10. Remove the screws in the armrest. 11. Remove the center from the trim clip at the upper front of the door panel and remove the clip. 12. Using a suitable trim panel removal tool, unsnap the door panel from the door frame. 13. Carefully lift the door panel up and away from the door frame. To install: 14. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Honda Civic/Del Sol 1996-2000 Electric Window Motor REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 1. Remove the regulator from the door assembly. 2. Except for the rear doors, drill a hole through the regulator sector gear and backplate. Install the bolt and nut to lock the sector gear in position. Be careful not to drill a hole closer than 7/ 16 in. (11mm) from the edge of the sector. Also, do not drill through the lift arm attaching portion of the sector gear, or the joint integrity will be jeopardized. 3. Drill out the ends of the motor attaching rivets using a 1/ 4 in. (6mm) bit. 4. Remove the motor and the remaining portions of the rivets from the regulator. Except for the rear doors, one rivet will not be accessible until assembly. Regulator and motor assembly—except rear doors Secure the rivets by collapsing the rivet ends using a ball peen hammer To install: 5. Position the new motor to the regulator. With the aid of an assistant, install new rivets by collapsing or crushing the rivet ends using a ball peen hammer. 6. Except for the rear doors, once two of the three rivets have been installed, remove the bolt securing the sector gear to the backplate, then use an appropriate electrical source (such as the vehicle’s window motor harness) to rotate the regulator, providing access to the remaining rivet. 7. Except for the rear doors, use a flat nosed rotary file to grind off one sector gear tooth from the side which does not contact the driven gear. This is necessary to reach the remaining rivet. Remove the old rivet, then install the remaining new rivet. 8. Install the regulator to the door assembly.

SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Remove the following components; • cluster lid “C” (HVAC control surround trim) • fuse box cover • driver’s side instrument panel lower cover (attached with 2 screws). 2. Remove the screw from the center of the cable operated gear (see Figure 2). Figure 2 3. Locate the small (about 1″ dia.) white air mix door gear. Hopefully it is still on the floor. NOTE: If you cannot find the old air mix door gear, order a new gear. Refer to the Parts Information section of this bulletin. 4. To see how it is supposed to fit, temporarily install the gear into the air mix door shaft (see Figure 3). Figure 3 Air mix door drive gear (shown installed) Heater box Cable operated gear Retaining screw (remove) Front TP020106 Cable (do not detach) On the left side of the heater case, remove the screw from the center of the cable operated gear for the air mix door. Note: It is not necessary to detach the cable from the gear or the heater box. Proper pin location for air mix door/door gear with door/gear turned fully clock wise. Front TP010607a The gear can fit two different ways, only one of which is correct. Install the gear and rotate the gear/mix door shaft assembly fully clockwise so the gear’s index pin is at the 2 to 3 o’clock position. Cable (do not detach) Note: If the gear is in the correct spot, the alignment pin will be at the 2 to 3 o’clock position. POSITIONING THE GEAR CORRECTLY IS CRITICAL TO GETTING THE DOOR TIMING RIGHT. 3/5 5. Remove the gear, thoroughly clean the gear shaft of any grease, and apply the glue. See Figure 4. Figure 4 6. Re-install the gear into the mix door shaft (see Figure 5). Figure 5 TP010606a Air mix door gear (back side) Apply Glue to Shaded areas b. Apply plastic glue (3M dp-8005 or equivalent) to the shaft of the air mix door gear in the area where it inserts into the air mix door shaft. a. Thoroughly clean the air mix door gear shaft. Note: It is not necessary to clean the grease from the gear teeth. Front TP020100 Re-install the gear so the gear’s index pin is at the 2 to 3 o’clock position when the gear/mix door shaft assembly is turned fully clockwise. Proper pin location for air mix door/door gear with door/gear turned fully clock wise. 4/5 7. Set the HVAC control temperature dial as shown in Figure 6. Figure 6 8. Re-install the cable operated gear (see Figure 7). Figure 7 9. Operate the temperature control while watching the air mix door gear movement. They should operate freely with no binding. 10.Check the adjustment of the temperature cable as follows: A. Rotate the temperature control knob to the full COLD position (i.e., fully counterclockwise) and confirm the air mix door is fully seated (sealed) in the down position, then B. Rotate the temperature control knob to the full HOT position (i.e., fully clockwise) and confirm the air mix door is fully seated (sealed) in the up position. If the air mix door does not fully seat (seal) in either the full HOT or full COLD position: • Adjust the temperature control cable, with the temperature control knob in the full hot position, using the clip at the heater unit (see Figure 7) 11.Re-install the trim pieces removed in step 1.

FRONT DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION Special Tools Required * Trim pad remover, Snap-on A 177A or equivalent, commercially available * KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014 1. Using a trim tool, pry out the upper portion of the cover (A) to release the hooks (B), then remove the cover. 2. Remove the screws. 3. Driver’s door: Pull the inner handle (A) rearward and out half-way to release the power door lock switch bracket (B) from the door panel (C). Passenger’s door: Remove the switch panel (A). * 1 Insert a flat-tip screwdriver wrapped with protective tape through a hole under the armrest, and push up the back of the panel to release the rear hook (B). * 2 Pull out along the edge of the panel to release the hooks (C) and clip. * 3 Disconnect the power window switch connector (D). Fig. 11: Disconnecting Power Window Switch Connector Courtesy of AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO., INC. 9. Remove the mirror mount cover (see step 2 on POWER MIRROR REPLACEMENT ). 10. Remove the door panel (A) with as little bending as possible to avoid creasing or breaking it. * 1 Release the clip (B). * 2 Release the clips (C) that hold the door panel with a commercially available trim pad remover (D).
