SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Remove the following components; • cluster lid “C” (HVAC control surround trim) • fuse box cover • driver’s side instrument panel lower cover (attached with 2 screws). 2. Remove the screw from the center of the cable operated gear (see Figure 2). Figure 2 3. Locate the small (about 1″ dia.) white air mix door gear. Hopefully it is still on the floor. NOTE: If you cannot find the old air mix door gear, order a new gear. Refer to the Parts Information section of this bulletin. 4. To see how it is supposed to fit, temporarily install the gear into the air mix door shaft (see Figure 3). Note: It is not necessary to detach the cable from the gear or the heater box. Proper pin location for air mix door/door gear with door/gear turned fully clock wise. Install the gear and rotate the gear/mix door shaft assembly fully clockwise so the gear’s index pin is at the 2 to 3 o’clock position. Cable (do not detach) Note: If the gear is in the correct spot, the alignment pin will be at the 2 to 3 o’clock position. POSITIONING THE GEAR CORRECTLY IS CRITICAL TO GETTING THE DOOR TIMING RIGHT. 3/5 5. Remove the gear, thoroughly clean the gear shaft of any grease, and apply the glue. See Figure 4. Figure 4 6. Apply plastic glue (3M dp-8005 or equivalent) to the shaft of the air mix door gear in the area where it inserts into the air mix door shaft. a. Thoroughly clean the air mix door gear shaft. Note: It is not necessary to clean the grease from the gear teeth. Front TP020100 Re-install the gear so the gear’s index pin is at the 2 to 3 o’clock position when the gear/mix door shaft assembly is turned fully clockwise. Re-install the cable operated gear (see Figure 7). Figure 7 9. Operate the temperature control while watching the air mix door gear movement. They should operate freely with no binding. 10.Check the adjustment of the temperature cable as follows: A. Rotate the temperature control knob to the full COLD position (i.e., fully counterclockwise) and confirm the air mix door is fully seated (sealed) in the down position, then B. Rotate the temperature control knob to the full HOT position (i.e., fully clockwise) and confirm the air mix door is fully seated (sealed) in the up position. If the air mix door does not fully seat (seal) in either the full HOT or full COLD position: • Adjust the temperature control cable, with the temperature control knob in the full hot position, using the clip at the heater unit (see Figure 7) 11.Re-install the trim pieces removed in step 1.

SERVICE PROCEDURE Replace Starter, Add Cleaner 1. Replace the starter motor. • Use the part number from the Parts Information section of this bulletin. • Refer to section SC, “STARTING SYSTEM, Removal and Installation” in the applicable Nissan Electronic Service Manual (ESM). 2. Add one full can of Nissan In-Tank Fuel System Cleaner to the fuel. NOTE: If the fuel tank is less than ¾ full, instruct the customer to fill the tank as soon as it is convenient after the repair. Driving with the Cleaner installed and low fuel level will not harm the fuel system or engine, but will reduce the effectiveness of the cleaning process. 3. Continue to ECM Part Number Check (next page). 1. ACTIONS: • If you only have DTC P0340, replace only Bank 1 CMP (Camshaft Position) Sensor. • If you only have DTC P0345, replace only Bank 2 CMP (Camshaft Position) Sensor. • If you have both codes, replace both sensors. • For a “hard to start warm” incident, replace both sensors, even if you have no codes. Refer to sections EC and EM in the correct Service Manual for sensor replacement information. If replacement of the sensors does not solve your incident, go back to ASIST for further diagnostic and repair information. Removal 1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . Drain coolant from radiator and cylinder block. Drain engine oil. Disconnect all necessary coolant hoses, electrical connectors, vacuum hoses, fuel lines and control cables. 2. Remove front exhaust tube. Remove intake manifold collector supports, and intake manifold. Remove exhaust manifold with catalytic converter. Remove air injection valve pipe. Remove intake air duct. Remove radiator fan and shroud. Remove injectors and fuel rail as an assembly. Remove distributor cap and spark plugs. 3. Set cylinder No. 1 at TDC of compression stroke, ensuring marks on crankshaft pulley and front cover align, and distributor rotor points to spark plug wire No. 1 on cap. Remove cylinder head cover. Remove distributor. 4. Prevent camshafts from turning, and remove camshaft sprocket bolts. Remove camshaft sprocket. See Fig. 13 . Mark and remove camshaft bearing caps in reverse order of installation. See Fig. 16 . Remove camshafts. 5. Loosen cylinder head bolts in 2 or 3 steps, in reverse order of tightening sequence. See Fig. 11 . Remove camshaft sprocket cover. Remove outer (upper) chain tensioner and guide. Remove outer timing chain. Remove idler sprocket bolt. Remove cylinder head. 6. Remove oil pan and oil strainer. See OIL PAN. Remove accessory drive belts. Remove A/C compressor idler pulley (if equipped). Remove crankshaft pulley. Remove front cover. Remove chain tensioner, tensioner arm and chain guides. Remove inner (lower) timing chain and idler sprocket. Remove oil pump drive spacer and crankshaft sprocket. Inspection 1. Inspect chain roller links. Replace chain if roller links are cracked or worn. Inspect cylinder head and cylinder block mating surfaces for warpage. If warpage exceeds specification, machine cylinder head. See CYLINDER HEAD under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS. 2. If machining reduces cylinder head height to less than specification, replace cylinder head. After machining, rotate camshaft by hand. Replace cylinder head if camshaft does not rotate freely.

1. Locate and identify the three vacuum ports on the intake manifold. 2. Disconnect and discard the vacuum hose that connects the fuel pressure regulator to vacuum port C. 3. Plug vacuum port C with the cap from the tube kit. 4. Replace the fuel pressure regulator. Refer to page 11-113 of the 1998-00 Accord Service Manual. 5. Install the new vacuum hose kit using one of the following procedures 1. Remove and discard the cap from vacuum port A. 2. Connect the short vacuum hose to vacuum port A M/T WITH CRUISE CONTROL 2. Disconnect and discard the vacuum hose that connects the fuel pressure regulator to vacuum port C. 3. Plug vacuum port C with the cap from the tube kit. 4. Replace the fuel pressure regulator. Refer to page 11-113 of the 1998-00 Accord Service Manual. 5. Install the new vacuum hose kit using one of the following procedures. Zoom Sized for Print 1. Remove and discard the cap from vacuum port A. 2. Connect the short vacuum hose to vacuum port A. Zoom Sized for Print 3. Anchor the long vacuum hose by attaching it to the rear intake air duct clip and to the cruise control hose. . Route the new vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator. Attach the hose to the three rear clips on the engine wire harness cover. Zoom Sized for Print 1. Remove and discard the vacuum hose from vacuum port A. This hose supplies vacuum to the rear engine mount control solenoid. 2. Connect the short vacuum hose from the top of the Y fitting to vacuum port A
