Toothed belt, removing and installing Removing – Remove engine cover (arrows). – Remove noise insulation panel (arrows). – Remove front bumper. Refer to Body and Frame/Bumper/Service and Repair – Move lock carrier to service position. Refer to Body and Frame/Radiator Support/Service and Repair – Remove ribbed belt. Refer to Engine/Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive Belt/Serpentine Belt/Service and Repair See: Drive Belt/Service and Repair CAUTION: Mark the running direction of the belt with a crayon or marker before removing. Reinstalling a used belt in reversed running direction could damage the belt. – Unclip toothed belt guard on both sides and remove. – Turn crankshaft by hand to TDC. Marks -A- and -B- must align – Check position of camshafts. Larger holes (arrow) of securing plates on camshaft sprockets must be on inside and must align If they are not in this position: Turn crankshaft one revolution further. – Remove sealing plug from left-side of cylinder block. Top Dead Center (TDC) mark on crankshaft must be visible or can be felt Crankshaft Holder 3242 Shown In Installed Position – Install 3242 crankshaft holder into opening. – Remove tensioner for ribbed belt. – Remove center and left belt guards. Notes: The toothed belt tensioner is oil-dampened. Compress it by slowly applying constant pressure. Use spring clamp from 2024A. – Using 8 mm hex wrench, turn toothed belt tensioning roller -1- counter-clockwise, opposite direction shown (arrow), until tensioning lever -2- compresses tensioner -3- so that spring clamp (2 mm dia.) can be inserted into bore and lifter. – Insert pin and release tension. – Remove vibration dampener. Refer to Engine/Cylinder Block Assembly/Harmonic Balancer/Service and Repair – Remove idler for ribbed belt and guard under vibration dampener (arrows). – Remove toothed belt.

REMOVAL 1. Disconnect negative battery cable. 2. Loosen power steering lock bolts and nuts accordingly and remove tension from Power Steering (P/S) and/or Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor drive belt . 3. Remove P/S and/or A/C drive belt . 4. Loosen generator mounting bolts and adjusting bolt. 5. Remove generator bolts. 6. Remove water pump pulley. 7. Remove crankshaft pulley and timing belt guide plate. 8. Remove upper and lower timing belt covers. 9. Turn crankshaft so that timing mark on timing belt pulley is aligned with timing mark on engine. 10. Check that “I” mark on intake camshaft pulley is aligned with mark on cylinder head cover and “E” mark on exhaust camshaft pulley is aligned with mark on cylinder head cover. NOTE: Do not move camshaft or crankshaft once timing marks have been correctly positioned. 11. Loosen tensioner pulley lock bolt. 12. Protect timing belt with a rag. 13. Remove tensioner pulley. 14. Remove timing belt. NOTE: Mark the direction of timing belt rotation (on the timing belt) for proper reinstallation. INSPECTION NOTE: Never forcefully twist, turn inside out or bend timing belt. Do not allow oil or grease to come in contact with timing belt. 1. Replace timing belt if it is contaminated with oil or grease

DIAGNOSIS 1. Start the engine, and let it idle until it warms up. Does the idle fluctuate, or is there a customer complaint of an intermittent idle fluctuation? Yes – Odyssey : Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE A. Pilot : Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B. No – Go to step 2. 2. Connect the HDS to the vehicle’s DLC, and check for DTCs. Is DTC P1129 or P0505 stored? Yes – Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B. No – Continue with normal troubleshooting. REPAIR PROCEDURE A 1. Connect the HDS to the vehicle’s DLC. 2. Start the engine, and turn on the HDS. 3. When prompted, enter the VIN and the odometer reading 4. From the System Selection Menu screen, select PGM-FI . 5. From the Mode Menu, select DATA LIST . 6. Scroll down the list to PSP SWITCH . Watch the reading in the Value column. 7. Check for a broken power steering pressure switch wire by wiggling the P/S pressure switch wire harness at the switch while you check the Value column reading. •If the reading changes between on and off when you wiggle the harness, go to step 8. •If the reading does not change between on and off when you wiggle the harness, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B. 8. Raise the vehicle on a lift, and remove the right front wheel to access the power steering pressure switch. 9. Disconnect the connector from the switch, and release the harness clip from the body. NOTE: You may need to disconnect the Secondary HO2S connector to free the end of the harness from the body. 10. Lower the vehicle, and pull the harness up for easier access to make the repair. 11. Remove the rubber seal from the connector, and remove the terminals from the connector noting the GRN wire and BLK wire locations. 12. Remove the tape from the corrugated tube and the wires up to the harness clip; mark the wires at the end of the corrugated tube

Did you perform the Instrument Cluster System Check? — Go to Step 2 Go to Instrument Cluster System Check 2 1. Disconnect the Transmission Range (TR) Switch connector C2. 2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. 3. Conduct the PRNDL Logic Input Test by connecting fused jumper wires between ground and the appointed cavities of the TR Switch connector. Refer to PRNDL Logic Input Test PRNDL Logic Input Test . 4. Repeat for each transmission range. Do all ranges illuminate? — Go to Step 3 Go to Step 4 3 Adjust the transmission range switch. Refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Adjustment (4L60E); Park/Neutral Position Switch Adjustment (4L80E) Automatic Transmissions. Replace the PNP Switch. Refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement (4L60E); Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement (4L80E) in Automatic Transmissions. Is the repair complete? — Go to Instrument Cluster System Check — 4 1. Remove the I/P Cluster. 2. Connect a J 39200 DMM (continuity) between the I/P Cluster connector and connector C2 of the TR Switch to those circuit(s) that connected to the faulty PRNDL indicators. Is continuity present in the circuit(s) tested? — Go to Step 6 Go to Step 5 5 Locate and repair the open in the circuit(s) that are faulty between the TR Switch and the I/P Cluster. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems. Is the repair complete? — Go to Instrument Cluster System Check — 6 Connect a J 39200 DMM (continuity) between the I/P Cluster connector and ground to those circuit(s) that connected to the faulty PRNDL indicators. Is continuity present in the circuit(s) tested? — Go to Step 7 Go to Step 8 Locate and repair the short to ground in the circuit(s) that are faulty between the TR Switch and the I/P Cluster. Refer to Wiring 7 Repairs in Wiring Systems. Is the repair complete? — Go to Instrument Cluster System Check — 8 Replace the I/P Cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement . Is the repair complete?

REMOVAL 1.Remove upper intake manifold. 2.Remove cylinder head covers, crankshaft damper, and timing chain cover. CAUTION: When aligning timing marks, always rotate engine by turning the crankshaft. Failure to do so will result in valve and/or piston damage. Fig. 70 3.Align crankshaft sprocket timing mark to mark on oil pump housing (Fig. 70). The mark on oil pump housing is 60° ATDC of #1 cylinder. CAUTION: When the timing chain is removed and the cylinder heads are still installed, DO NOT rotate the camshafts or crankshaft without first locating the proper crankshaft position. Failure to do so will result in valve and/or piston damage Fig. 74 4.Remove primary timing chain tensioner from right cylinder head (Fig. 74). 5.Remove camshaft position sensor from left cylinder head (Fig. 69). 6.Remove chain guide access plug from left cylinder head (Fig. 69). NOTE: When camshaft sprocket bolts are removed, the camshafts will rotate in a clockwise direction. 7.Starting with the right camshaft sprocket, remove the sprocket attaching bolts. Remove camshaft damper and sprocket (Fig. 69). 8.Remove left side camshaft sprocket attaching bolts and remove sprocket (Fig. 69). 9.Remove lower chain guide and tensioner arm (Fig. 69). 10.Remove the primary timing chain. INSTALLATION 1.Inspect all sprockets and chain guides. Replace if worn. Refer to Crankshaft Gear/Sprocket, for removal and installation procedures. 2.If removed, install right and left side short chain guides (Fig. 69). Tighten attaching bolts to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) 3.Align crankshaft sprocket timing mark to the mark on oil pump housing (Fig. 71). NOTE: Lubricate timing chain and guides with engine oil before installation. 4.Place left side primary chain sprocket onto the chain so that the timing mark is located in-between the two (plated) timing links (Fig. 71). 5.Lower the primary chain with left side sprocket through the left cylinder head opening

INSTALLATION NOTE: •Be careful not to damage the body paint finish. •This trunk spoiler kit should be installed only if the ambient air temperature is 15°C (60°F) or above. •Wash and wax the area to be covered with a high- quality paste wax. •To allow the adhesive to cure, do not wash the vehicle for 24 hours Installing the Trunk Spoiler 1. Open the trunk lid. Remove the trunk lid lining (twelve clips). 2. Attach the tape to the trunk lid as shown. 711502AE TRUNK LID TRUNK LID LINING 11 CLIPS CLIP 770404AB TRUNK LID TAPE 3. Close the trunk lid. Align template 1 with the rear “H” emblem and edge with the trunk lid. Tape template 1 to the trunk lid. Using a felt-tip pen, mark on the tape as shown. Remove template 1. 4. Position template 2 (portion A) with the center mark on the tape. Using a felt-tip pen, mark the tape at the notch as shown 5. Position template 2 (portion B) with marks on the tape as shown. Using a felt-tip pen, mark the tape at the notches as shown. 6. Position template 2 (portion C) with marks on the tape as shown. Transmission Repair 1. Remove the transmission. Refer to the appropriate SI procedure. 2. Disassemble and inspect the transmission. Refer to Unit Repair Automatic Transmission – 4L60-E/4L65-E. Important: Subject: 4L60-E Automatic Transmission/Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Shudder, Water in Transmission (Repair Transmission and Replace Transmission Filler Tube, Level Indicator and Seal) Models: 2004-2005 Buick Rainier 2003-2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer Models 2003-2005 GMC Envoy Models 2003-2004 Oldsmobile Bravada 2005 Saab 9-7X with 4.2L In-Line 6 Cylinder Engine (VIN S — RPO LL8) • Visible rust on the transmission fluid level indicator. • Visible water in the oil pan. • A milky white substance inside the pan area. • Spacer plate gaskets that appear to be glued to the spacer plate, valve body or case. • Rust on internal transmission iron/steel components. • Remove the surge tank cap and examine the coolant for signs of contamination with transmission fluid (the coolant will have a milky, not clear appearance). • If the coolant has a normal, clear appearance, the radiator should not be replaced. • The cooler can also be tested by following the Coolant System Leak Test procedure (SI Document ID# 877442). Do NOT replace a radiator without verifying that the transmission oil cooler is leaking. If water or coolant is found in the transmission, the following components MUST be replaced. Replace the Transmission Fluid Filler Tube, Seal and Fluid Level Indicator WITH the transmission REMOVED from vehicle. 1. Remove the transmission fluid filler tube from the transmission. 2. Replace the transmission fill tube seal, P/N 1259475. 3. Replace the transmission fill tube, P/N 15000220, following the appropriate SI Document for Transmission Installation. 4. Replace the transmission fluid level indicator, P/N 15069769 when appropriate during the transmission installation. Replace the Transmission Fluid Filler Tube, Seal and Fluid Level Indicator with the transmission in the vehicle. 1. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Element Replacement (SI Document ID# 1364496). 2. Remove the transmission fluid level indicator from the filler tube. 3. Remove the filler tube nut (2) located on the right side of the engine. 4. Remove the filler tube from the vehicle. Tip It is necessary to remove the two A/C line (suction line / low side of muffler hose) retainers and reposition • Replace all of the rubber type seals. • Replace all of the composition-faced clutch plate assemblies including the band. • Replace all of the nylon parts (Thrust Washers). • Replace the torque converter. • Thoroughly clean and rebuild the transmission, using new gaskets and oil filter. • Flush and flow check the transmission oil cooler using J 45096. Refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 02-07-30- 052C or newer – Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Flush and Flow Test Essential Tool J 45096 TransFlow .
the A/C line to allow proper clearance for installation of the new transmission fluid fill tube. 5. Remove the A/C line at the oil level indicator tube bracket nut. 6. Remove the A/C bracket bolt from the engine lift hook. 7. Reposition the A/C line upward. 8. Install the new transmission filler tube, P/N 15000220, into position but NOT into the transmission at this time. 9. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information (SI Document ID# 744862). 10. Remove the two bolts securing the transmission heat shield to the transmission. 11. Remove the transmission heat shield from the transmission. 12. Remove the old filler tube seal from the transmission case. 13. Install a new seal, P/N 1259475 into the transmission case. 14. Position the new transmission filler tube into the transmission seal. 15. Install the transmission heat shield to the transmission. 16. Install the two bolts securing the transmission heat shield to the transmission. Tighten Tighten the bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft). 17. Lower the vehicle. 18. Install the nut securing the filler tube to the stud. Tighten Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in). 19. Reposition the A/C line into place. 20. Install the A/C line bracket to the oil level indicator tube stud and secure the bracket with the nut. 21. Install the A/C line bracket to the engine lift bracket and secure the A/C bracket with the bolt

Brake Noise: A squeak, squeal, clunk, or groan that occurs when the brakes are applied or released. b. Brake Judder: A vibration that can be felt in the vehicle, steering wheel, or brake pedal when the brakes are applied. c. Pedal Feel: The effort needed to operate the brakes is too high or too low. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Verify the condition by road testing the vehicle with the customer. 2. Determine the specific brake issue based on the description in the Service Information above. 3. Follow the appropriate repair procedure(s), listed on the following pages, for your specific issue. BRAKE NOISE • Brakes can make a range of noises when applied or released. Some noises are normal and no repair action should be taken. • Use the following descriptions to identify the specific type of brake noise and the appropriate repair: Squeak noise when the brakes are cold: • Usually occurs during the first few stops in the morning. • This is a normal condition.
