1. Relieve the Bi-fuel system fuel pressure. For additional information, refer to Pressure Relief—Natural Gas Bi-Fuel System. 2. Raise the vehicle on the hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02. 3. NOTE: There is an O-ring attached to the drain plug. The O-ring must be replaced each time the drain plug is removed. Remove the drain plug. 4. Install the drain plug. 5. Lower the vehicle. 6. Pressurize the fuel system. WARNING: It is important that your bi-fuel vehicle be correctly maintained by Ford bi-fuel trained personnel. If a concern occurs, it is important that correctly trained personnel diagnose the cause. If a concern relates to the fuel system, correct part replacement is imperative to keep your vehicle operating at normal performance. Bi-fuel components and gasoline specific components are not interchangeable. If your vehicle is not serviced in accordance with bi-fuel service procedures, damage can occur and your warranty may be invalidated. WARNING: Fuel supply lines are always pressurized. When servicing fuel related components, do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or an open flame of any type. Flammable mixtures may be present and can ignite, resulting in personal injury. WARNING: The natural gas fuel system is always pressurized to 655 kPa (95 psi) downstream of the fuel pressure regulator and up to 24821 kPa (3,600 psi) upstream of the fuel pressure regulator. Use care when servicing the fuel system or personal injury can occur. WARNING: The natural gas fuel supply manifold is pressurized to 655 kPa (95 psi). Fuel pressure must be relieved prior to any fuel system service. WARNING: The fuel system pressure must be relieved before any component can be removed. The fuel tanks must be evacuated prior to tank removal. Removal of components without pressure relief or tank evacuation can cause natural gas to escape into the air and cause injury or death.

Fuel pump relay is located in the front of the trunk. Turn ignition switch to START position. If engine starts, go to next step. If engine does not start, go to FUEL PUMP RESISTOR (3.5RL) . 2. Turn engine off and ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and PCM 12-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Green wire). If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step 4). 3. Start engine and run at 3000 RPM with no loads and transmission in Park or Neutral, until radiator fan comes on. Allow engine to idle for at least one minute. Turn engine off. Disconnect vacuum hose No. 21 from vacuum manifold. Apply 8-12 in. Hg (27-40 kPa) vacuum to Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor. Start engine and run at 6500 RPM with no loads and transmission in Park or Neutral. Measure voltage between ground and PCM 12-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Green wire). If less than one volt is present, fuel pump relay circuit is okay. If one volt or more is present, substitute a known good PCM, then recheck. If symptom or indication goes away, replace original PCM. 4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM 26-pin and 12-pin connectors. Disconnect fuel pump relay 4-pin connector. Using a fused jumper wire, connect fuel pump relay connector terminals No. 2 (Red/White wire) and No. 4 (Green wire). Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and PCM 12-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Green wire). If battery voltage is not present, go to next step. If battery voltage is present, replace fuel pump relay. 5. Remove jumper wire. Measure voltage between ground and fuel pump relay 4-pin connector terminal No. 2 (Red/White wire). If battery voltage is present, repair open or short in Green wire between PCM and fuel pump relay. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Red/White wire between fuel pump relay and FUEL PUMP fuse No. 22 (20-amp), located in underdash fuse/relay box. FUEL PUMP RESISTOR (3.5RL) 1. Fuel pump resistor is located in the left corner of the trunk. Disconnect fuel pump resistor 2-pin connector. Turn ignition on and measure voltage between ground and fuel pump resistor connector terminal No. 2 (Yellow wire) within 2 seconds. If battery voltage is present for 2 seconds after ignition is turned on, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present as specified, check PGM-FI relay. See PGM- FI MAIN RELAY . 2. Turn ignition off. Using a jumper wire, connect fuel pump resistor connector terminals No. 1 (Black/Yellow wire) and No. 2 (Yellow wire). Turn ignition switch to START position. If engine does not start, go to next step. If engine starts, replace fuel pump resistor. 3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel unit sub-harness Gray, 10-pin connector located in front of trunk, above fuel pump access panel, next to Gray, 20-pin connector. Turn ignition on and measure voltage between ground and sub-harness connector terminal No. 7 (Black/Yellow wire) within 2 seconds. If battery voltage is present for 2 seconds after ignition is turned on, check fuel pump. If battery voltage is present as specified, repair open in Black/Yellow wire between fuel pump resistor and fuel pump

1. Verify that the power steering pump reservoir is full. 2. Verify that the accessory drive belt is in good condition and that the pulleys are not bent or damaged. 3. Verify proper belt tension and operation of the belt tensioner. 4. Check for power steering hose ground out conditions. 5. Check for good engine idle and correct engine RPM. 6. Important: When performing the “Bleeding Air from Power Steering System” procedure, it is important that the front of the vehicle is supported by the lower control arms. If the vehicle is not supported by the lower control arms, the procedure may cause the strut bushing to dislocate and cause new concern. for assembly purposes. If the assembly aid is installed, remove the assembly aid and install the rear transaxle mount. 7. With the vehicle on dry pavement, maneuver the vehicle in parking positions. If the steering vibrates/shudders or moans in this test, replace the power steering pressure hose and/or the harmonic balancer. Important: A defective harmonic balancer on the 1995 Buick Riviera can influence steering vibrations after power steering hose installation. Important: When installing the pressure hose on the 1995 Buick Riviera, pull down on the pressure hose at the rear of the engine or bend the hose to allow clearance between the hose and the front of the dash. Power Steering Pressure (Inlet) Hose Replacement Procedure For 1995-1998 Vehicles: 1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in the General Information section of the Service Manual. 2. Drain the power steering fluid. Refer to Draining the Power Steering System in the Power Steering section of the Service Manual. 3. Remove the power steering gear assembly heat shield (1). 4. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump assembly (4). 5. Remove the bolt/screws from the retaining clips (3). 6. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering gear assembly (2). 7. Remove the power steering pressure hose assembly from the vehicle. 8. Install the power steering pressure hose assembly to the vehicle. 9. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump assembly (4). 10. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering gear assembly (2). Tighten Tighten the power steering pressure hose to the steering gear to 27 N·m (20 lb ft). 11. Install the bolt/screws to the retaining clips (3). Tighten Tighten the retaining clip bolt/screws to 6 N·m (53 lb in). 12. Install the power steering gear assembly heat shield (1). 13. Lower the vehicle. 14. Fill and bleed the power steering system using, J 43485. Refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 83-32-09, dated November, 1998. Power Steering Pressure (Inlet) and Return (Outlet) Hose Replacement Procedure For 1999-2001 Vehicles: 1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in the General Information section of the Service Manual. 2. Drain the power steering fluid. Refer to Draining the Power Steering System in the Power Steering section of the Service Manual. 3. Remove the LH front wheel/tire assembly. 4. Remove the LH lower splash shield. 5. Remove the lower radiator air deflector (engine splash shield, if installed.

1. Check the engine oil level. Is the level OK? YES- Go to step 2 . NO- Adjust the engine oil to the proper level, then go to step 14 . 2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). 3. Clear the DTC with the HDS. 4. Do the VTEC TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS. Is the result OK? YES- Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the rocker arm oil pressure switch (VTEC oil pressure switch) and the ECM/PCM. NO- Go to step 5 . 5. Check the result of step 4 . * Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch (VTEC Oil Pressure Switch) Failure * Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch (VTEC Oil Pressure Switch) Open * Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch (VTEC Oil Pressure Switch) SIG Line Open * Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch (VTEC Oil Pressure Switch) GND Line Open Is the test result any of the above? YES- Go to step 6 . NO- Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the rocker arm oil pressure switch (VTEC oil pressure switch). 1. Locate and identify the three vacuum ports on the intake manifold. 2. Disconnect and discard the vacuum hose that connects the fuel pressure regulator to vacuum port C. 3. Plug vacuum port C with the cap from the tube kit. 4. Replace the fuel pressure regulator. Refer to page 11-113 of the 1998-00 Accord Service Manual. 5. Install the new vacuum hose kit using one of the following procedures 1. Remove and discard the cap from vacuum port A. 2. Connect the short vacuum hose to vacuum port A M/T WITH CRUISE CONTROL 2. Disconnect and discard the vacuum hose that connects the fuel pressure regulator to vacuum port C. 3. Plug vacuum port C with the cap from the tube kit. 4. Replace the fuel pressure regulator. Refer to page 11-113 of the 1998-00 Accord Service Manual. 5. Install the new vacuum hose kit using one of the following procedures. Zoom Sized for Print 1. Remove and discard the cap from vacuum port A. 2. Connect the short vacuum hose to vacuum port A. Zoom Sized for Print 3. Anchor the long vacuum hose by attaching it to the rear intake air duct clip and to the cruise control hose. . Route the new vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator. Attach the hose to the three rear clips on the engine wire harness cover. Zoom Sized for Print 1. Remove and discard the vacuum hose from vacuum port A. This hose supplies vacuum to the rear engine mount control solenoid. 2. Connect the short vacuum hose from the top of the Y fitting to vacuum port A

2. Install the J 34730-1A . 3. Loosen the fuel fill cap in order to relieve fuel tank vapor pressure. 4. Open the valve on the J 34730-1A in order to bleed the system pressure. The fuel connections are now safe for servicing. 5. Drain any fuel remaining in the gauge into an approved container. 6. Once the system pressure is completely relieved, remove the J 34730-1A . 7. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Important Clean the fuel filter connections and surrounding area before disconnecting the fuel lines in order to avoid possible fuel system contamination. 8. Using a flare nut wrench and a backup wrench, disconnect the fuel line fitting from the fuel filter. 9. Pull the quick-connect fitting back until the internal retainers hit the filter stop. 10. Twist one end of the J 46363 – Fuel Line Disconnect Tool and insert it between the quick-connect fitting and the filter. 11. Twist the opposite end of the J 46363 – Fuel Line Disconnect Tool and insert it between the quick-connect fitting and the filter. 12. Once the J 46363 – Fuel Line Disconnect Tool is inserted, ensure the tool is parallel to the filter and the fitting. 13. While holding the filter, push the quick-disconnect fitting towards the filter in order to disconnect the quick- connect fitting. 14. Remove the quick-connect fitting from the filter. 15. Remove the filter from the bracket. 16. Install the new fuel filter, P/N 15173334 or P/N 25164003 (A/C Delco P/N GF847), to the bracket. 17. While holding the filter, push the fitting towards the filter in order to connect the quick-connect fitting. 18. Using a flare nut wrench and a back up wrench, connect the fuel line fitting to the filter. 19. Position the fuel sensor bracket into place and install the two nuts. Tighten Tighten the two nuts to 17 N·m(13 lb ft). 20. Lower the vehicle. 21. Tighten the fuel cap. 22. Connect the negative battery cable.

If resistance is 10,000 ohms or more, go to step 5). 5)Check Fuel Pump Circuit Continuity Turn ignition off. Leave fuel pump relay and PCM disconnected. Measure resistance between FUEL PUMP circuit at fuel pump relay wiring harness connector and test pin No. 22 at breakout box. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM and repeat QUICK TEST. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open circuit and repeat QUICK TEST. 10)Code 95/542 A KOEO Code 95/542 indicates one of the following conditions: Engine Starts: * Fuel pump secondary circuit shorted to power. * Fuel pump relay contacts always closed. * Open FPM circuit between PCM and junction to POWER-TO-PUMP circuit. * Left/front HO2S short to power (dual HO2S applications). * Faulty PCM. No Start: * IFS switch circuit open or not reset. * Open circuit in or between PCM and fuel pump. * Faulty ground connection at fuel pump. * Faulty fuel pump. If engine starts, go to step 11). If engine does not start, go to step 15). 11)Check Fuel Pump Operation Turn ignition on. Wait 5 seconds. Listen for fuel pump operation. If fuel pump is off, go to step 13). If fuel pump is on, go to step 12). 12)Check For Fuel Pump Relay Always Closed Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump relay. Turn ignition on. If fuel pump is off with relay disconnected, replace fuel pump relay and repeat QUICK TEST. If fuel pump is on with relay disconnected, repair short to power in POWER-TO-PUMP or FPM circuit. (For models with relay block, also check fuel pump prime plug circuit). Repeat QUICK TEST. 13)Check Continuity Of Fuel Pump Monitor (FPM) Circuit Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM 60-pin connector. Inspect and repair any damaged terminals. Install EEC-IV Breakout Box (T83L-50-EEC-IV) , leaving PCM disconnected. Disconnect fuel pump relay. Measure resistance between test pin No. 8 (No. 19 on Escort, and Tracer) at breakout box and POWER-TO-PUMP circuit at fuel pump relay wiring harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 25) (dual HO2S) or replace PCM and repeat QUICK TEST (single HO2S). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open circuit and repeat QUICK TEST

The fuel gauge does not change indication unless there has been at least 3 gallons of fuel added or deleted between ignition switch cycle. Use recorded REM and instrument cluster DTCs from the Continuous and On- Demand self-test. ? Are any DTCs recorded? Yes If REM DTC B1201 or IC DTC U1131 is retrieved, GO to D6 . No GO to D2. D2 CARRY OUT THE ICM FUEL GAUGE ACTIVE COMMAND IC Active Command Select the IC FUEL GAUGE CONTROL active command. Trigger FUELLEVEL active command. Toggle and monitor the fuel gauge while adjusting the FUELLEVEL active command to read 50% and 100% Did the fuel gauge needle start at empty (E), move to half at 50%, and full (F) at 100%? Yes GO to D3. No INSTALL a new instrument cluster; REFER to Instrument Cluster. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the instrument cluster self-test. D3 CHECK THE FUEL GAUGE READING Fuel Pump Module C412 Connect one lead of Instrument Gauge System Tester to fuel pump module C412 Pin 5, Circuit 1357 (LB/YE), harness side. Connect the other lead to fuel pump module C412 Pin 8, Circuit 1356 (LG/VT), harness side. Set the power switch on Instrument Gauge System Tester to the ON position Set Instrument Gauge System Tester to 15 ohms. Wait one minute. Set Instrument Gauge System Tester to 160 ohms. Wait one minute. Read the fuel gauge. The fuel gauge should read full or above. Set Instrument Gauge System Tester to 15 ohms. Wait one minute. Read the fuel gauge. The fuel gauge should read empty or below Does the fuel gauge operate correctly? Yes GO to D4. No GO to D6. D4 INSPECT THE FUEL TANK Visually inspect the fuel tank for any damage or deformation. ? Is the fuel tank OK? Yes GO to D5. No INSTALL a new fuel tank. REFER to Section 310-01. TEST the system for normal operation. D5 INSPECT THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR AND PUMP ASSEMBLY Visually inspect the fuel pump assembly for damaged wiring or connectors. Visually inspect the float and float rod for damage or obstruction

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE Previous Next Fuel Injection Pump (Distributor Type) The fuel injection pumps, Bosch® VE, Lucas CAV DPA, Stanadyne DB4, Lucas CAV DPS, and Delphi DP210, are rotary distributor pumps. These pumps perform the four basic functions of: 1. Producing the high fuel pressure required for injection 2. Metering the exact amount of fuel for each injection cycle 3. Distributing the high-pressure, metered fuel to each cylinder at the precise time 4. Varying the timing relative to engine speed. SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE Previous Next Distributor-Type Pump Governor Balance between the governor flyweights and control lever position controls the metering of the amount of fuel to be injected. The fuel injection pump governor performance and setting can affect engine power. Special equipment and qualified personnel are required to verify governor performance. If the seals are broken on the external Bosch® VE adjustment screw, the fuel rate can, perhaps, be out of adjustment The Lucas CAV DPA/DPS fuel injection pump uses a coded spring connection to change the governor setting. Incorrect connection of the governor spring can affect performance. Adjustments and rating changes are described in the Master Repair Manual, Injector Pumps and Injectors, Manual Shutdown Levers Both fuel injection pumps are equipped with mechanical shutdown levers. These levers are spring-loaded in the run position. Not all applications will use these manual shutdown controls and there will be no cable or rod connected to the lever. NOTE: Partial actuation of the mechanical shutdown levers will affect fuel flow and engine power. SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE Previous Next Advance Timing Mechanism Regulated pressure produced by a vane supply pump in both fuel injection pumps is used to advance the timing as the engine speed increases. A return spring is used to retard the timing as the engine speed is reduced. If a spring breaks, the timing will go to the advance position, resulting in torque loss, fuel knock, and possible engine overheating. Retarded (late) timing will result in torque loss, high fuel consumption, and white to black smoke. SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE Previous Next The Lucas CAV DPA/DPS advance timing mechanism uses a check ball in the circuit which, if omitted during assembly, will result in no timing advance. If the fuel injection pump has been replaced or the mechanism has been removed to fix a leak, the problem can be that the check ball is missing
