CUSTOMER INFORMATION : The information in this bulletin is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools, equipment, and training to correctly and safely maintain your car. These procedures should not be attempted by “do-it-yourselfers,” and you should not assume this bulletin applies to your car, or that your car has the condition described. To determine whether this information applies, contact an authorized Honda automobile dealer. ? 1996 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. – All Rights Reserved . ATB 14788-17665 (9601) 1 of 2 JAN 22, 1996 92-012 BODY ALL 1986 and later Applicable To Model File U nder Issu e D ate Bulletin N o. Service Bulletin Front Seat Belt Replacement Warranty Policy (Supersedes 92-012, dated March 13, 1992) Warranty policy for front seat belt replacement is to replace either the belt/retractor mechanism or the buckle when either does not work properly. Warranty covers the replacement of the failed half of a belt, not the entire assembly (see PARTS INFORMATION ). NOTE: For 1970 through 1985 models, seat belts are replaced as a complete assembly under a separate warranty policy. COMPONENT REPLACEMENT Front seat belts are made by several suppliers, and some are sold as individual components (two separate halves); they are not stocked as a complete set. Therefore, whenever you replace a belt, make sure the new belt half is the same type and from the same manufacturer as the original – otherwise, the belt may not buckle properly. To determine the manufacturer and type (or “model”) of the belt, look for the white tag on the original belt in the car. The tag is on the retractor side of the belt (visible at the lower attachment point), or on the belt if you pull the belt all the way out. From the tag, mark down the manufacturer’s name (either Nippon Seiko K.K. or Takata), the belt “model” number and the date of manufacture. If the tag is missing or illegible, look on the buckle component for the name Nippon Seiko K.K. or the stylized “T” mark () for Takata. NOTE: Some belts may have NSK Warner K.K. as the manufacturer’s name. Use Nippon Seiko K.K. belts as the replacement. Take the information to your Parts Department to order the proper replacement belt. NOTE: For more information on seat belts and seat belt related items read: -Twisted Seat Belt (ServiceNews, July ’85) -Seat Belt Testing and Repair (Service Bulletin 86-014, August ’86) -Automatic Seat Belt Troubleshooting (ServiceNews, May ’89) -Lap Belt Retracts Slowly (Service Bulletins 90-003, January ’90 and 90-012, April ’90) -Torn Seal on Seat Belt Track (Service Bulletin 91-004, March ’91) -Slow to Retract Seat Belt, Cleaning the Guide Ring (ServiceNews, April ’91) -Accord Shoulder Belt System Wire Colors (ServiceNews, May ’91) -Seat Belt Slow to Retract (Service Bulletin 91-030, December ’91) Refer to your Service Bulletin Index and the ServiceNews Index for model specific information. Toyota LandCruiser 4.2TD Timing belt replacement intervals

Timing belt replacement intervals The information relating to timing belt replacement intervals is additional to the main purpose of this CD, but is included to provide guidance to garages and for customer advice. Where possible the recommended intervals have been compiled from vehicle manufacturers’ information. In a few instances no recommendation has been made by the manufacturer and the decision to replace the belt must be made from the evidence of a thorough examination of the condition of the existing belt. Apart from the visible condition of the belt, which is explained fully later in this section, there are several other factors which must be considered when checking a timing belt: Is the belt an original or a replacement. 1. When was the belt last replaced and was it at the correct mileage. 2. Is the service history of the vehicle known. 3. Has the vehicle been operated under arduous conditions which might warrant a shorter replacement interval. 4. Is the general condition of other components in the camshaft drive, such as the tensioner, pulleys, and other ancillary components driven by the timing belt, typically the water pump, sound enough to ensure that the life of the replacement belt will not be affected. 5. If the condition of the existing belt appears good, can you be satisfied that the belt will not fail before the next check or service is due. 6. If the belt does fail, have you considered the consequences. If the engine is an INTERFERENCE type then considerable expensive damage may well be the result. 7. The cost of replacing a belt as part of a routine service could be as little as 5 to 10% of the repair cost following a belt failure. Make sure your customer is aware of the consequences. 8. If in doubt about the condition of the belt – RENEW it. 9. Removal Removal Remove timing belt cover [1]. 1. Turn crankshaft clockwise until timing marks aligned [2]. 2. Ensure timing marks aligned: 1KZ-T/TE: [3]. 3. 4. Remove: Automatic tensioner unit [6]. Tensioner pulley bolt [7]. Tensioner pulley [8]. Timing belt. 5. Installation Installation Check tensioner pulley for smooth operation [8]. Replace if necessary. 1. Remove dust cover. Check tensioner body for leakage or damage [6]. Check pushrod protrusion is 9,0-9,8 mm [9]. 2. Check pushrod does not move when pushed against a firm surface. If pushrod moves: Replace automatic tensioner unit. 3. Slowly compress pushrod into tensioner body until holes aligned. Use press. 4. Retain pushrod with 1,5 mm Allen key through hole in tensioner body [10]. Fit dust cover. 5. Ensure timing marks aligned [2]. 6. Ensure timing marks aligned: 1KZ-T/TE: [3]. 1HD-FT/1HD-FTE: [4]. 7. Fit timing belt in anti-clockwise direction, starting at lower sprocket. Ensure belt is taut between sprockets. 8. Fit tensioner pulley [8]. Tighten bolt to 34 Nm [7]. 9. Push tensioner pulley against belt. Install automatic tensioner unit [6]. Tighten bolts evenly to 13 Nm [5]. 10. Remove Allen key from tensioner body to release pushrod. 11. Turn crankshaft two turns clockwise. Ensure timing marks aligned [2] & [3] or [4]. 12. If not: Repeat installation and tensioning procedures. 13. Install components in reverse order of removal. 14. Reset timing belt replacement warning lamp as follows: 15. -Runner/Landcruiser: Remove grommet in speedometer housing. Depress switch using a thin screwdriver [11]. 16. Colorado: Remove speedometer housing. Remove screw indicated and insert in alternative location [12]. 17. Amazon: Lamp illuminates at 90,000 miles. Return vehicle to dealer.

I have intentionally left the photos large, to try to clarify any detail I did not explain in the text. This modification DOES require the use of a lathe, I have tried to write it so as to allow you to go to your local machine shop, brother in law, mate or anyone with a lathe…and it will be done correctly Much thanks to John O’Rielly (PLAGER 7) in Brisbane for passing on the information and problems he had with this modification. Fig.1Standard Drive Assemblies T50 left and AE101 right T50 Speedo Drive Adaption Rev 1 Feb 2003 2 Step One:- Dissassembly T50 Drive:- Disassembly is simple, remove the “C” clip from the drive housing , just above the drive gear. This will allow the shaft/gear assembly to be withdrawn from the housing. Remove the “O” ring from the housing. Wash all parts internally and externally to remove oil, grease and road grime. Fig.2 T50 Drive Disassembled T50 Speedo Drive Adaption Rev 1 Feb 2003 3 AE101 Drive:- Disassembly is similar to T50, remove the “C” clip from the drive housing , just above the drive gear. This will allow the shaft/gear assembly to be withdrawn from the housing. Remove the “O” rings from the housing. Remove the three (3) philips head screws from the cover on the top of the drive housing. Carefully remove cover, be aware that the small parts in side may be stuck to the cover. Remove all internal parts, record order of assembly. Wash housing and shaft to remove oil, grease and road grime. Fig.3 AE101 Drive Disassembled T50 Speedo Drive Adaption Rev 1 Feb 2003 4 Step Two:- Shortening the Drive Shaft Drive Shaft:- The T50 drive shaft needs to be shortened to a similar length to the AE101. I reassembled the AE101 shaft and housing, and then measured from the top face of the AE101 housing down to the top of the AE101 drive shaft. ( Fig.4) Record this reference depth, (I got 17mm) . Fig.4 Drive Shaft Depth Std AE101 Shaft & Housing The T50 drive shaft will need to be shortened to give the same depth as measured in Fig.4. When I did mine, (and a few others), I found I needed the T50 shaft to be 68.0mm long. Fig.5 Fig.6 The drive shaft is hardened, so I used a belt linisher to shorten the shaft, it could as easily be done on a fine grinding wheel. Remember slowly does it, regular checks of depth in housing and do not let the shaft get too hot during grinding/linishing, this will affect the heat treatment and consequently affect the strength of the drive dogs on the shaft end. Carefully deburr and chamfer, end detail should be similar to original AE101
