2003-2007 Accord V6 Power Steering Moans or Whines Repair Manual

SYMPTOM A moan or whine is heard when turning the steering wheel when the engine is cold. There may be air bubbles or foam in the power steering reservoir. The noise usually goes away when the engine warms up. PROBABLE CAUSE Air enters the power steering pump through the inlet joint O-ring. CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace the O-ring on the power steering pump inlet joint. PARTS INFORMATION O-ring: P/N 91345-RDA-A01, H/C 8811010 REQUIRED MATERIALS Honda Genuine Power Steering Fluid: P/N 08206-9002, H/C 3747284 (One container repairs about 12 vehicles.) You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work. REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Remove the bolt holding the inlet joint to the power steering pump housing. 2. Place a shop towel under the inlet joint. 3. Twist the inlet joint back and forth until it is loose, then carefully disconnect the joint and point the hose upward to minimize fluid loss. 4. Remove the inlet joint O-ring. 5. Apply power steering fluid to a new O-ring, and install it on the inlet joint. 6. Install the inlet joint, and torque its bolt to 11 N. m (8 lb-ft). 7. Top off the power steering fluid, if needed. Start the engine, and let it idle. Confirm that the noise is gone and that the system is operating properly

Removing the Door Panel Coverings 1. For ease of installation, do both sides at the same time. 2. Roll the windows to approximately 1/2 open, and so the crank handle is in the Down Position. With either the Crank Spring Removal Tool, or a flat Screwdriver, remove the spring, located in a slot on the back of the crank. 3. Remove the cover plate for the remote-control mirror, which is held in place by 3 spring clips. Remove by gently pulling the front corner of the cover out, and then slide the cover back. 4. Remove the door Pull-handle cover, by inserting a screwdriver into the access hole on the bottom of the handle, and using the screwdriver as a lever, pop off the handle cover. 5. Remove the button covering a retaining screw in the interior door latch backing plate. 6. Remove the 8 Torx™ retaining screws around the perimeter of the door panel, and the single Torx™ retaining screw in the interior door latch. 7. Remove the 2 hex bolts in the door handle. 8. Gently lift the panel upwards, to disengage the window weather-strip molding. 9. Remove the Door Latch Trim Panel, be sure to unplug the Power Lock Switch, and remember how the wire was run. 10. Remove the interior door latch, by gently pulling out on the front corner, which is held in by a plastic compression spring. 11. Remove the Foam Arm Rest bolster, by unclipping the 4 plastic compression clips and the clip fasteners.. 12. Remove the 4 Door Speaker screws, and disconnect the speaker. 13. Gently remove the closed cell Foam Cover from the doorframe, by pulling out, while cutting the rubber cement around the cover. Remove all but the front edge of the cover. This cover tears very easily, so use extreme care. B. Removing the Manual Window Regulator 1. Temporarily re-attach the crank handle, and roll the window so that clamps (6, 7) on window are accessible through the voids in the door frame. 2. Loosen the glass clamp nuts (or bolts). 3. Roll the window all the way up, and lock in place by inserting a screwdriver into the small access hole at the top of the doorframe. 4. Remove the 4 Hex bolts (1, 2, 3) Before removing the last bolt (4), take up the weight of the glass, and remove the last bolt. Gently let the glass rest on the screwdriver. 5. Remove the manual regulator and tracks. C. Installing the Electric Window Regulator 1. Align and install the Hex bolts (1, 2, 3, 4, and nut 5) 2. Loosen the glass clamp nuts (or bolts). 3. Gently let the glass rest in the Clamps. 4. Lightly tighten the glass clamp nuts (or bolts).

1. Remove the air cleaner duct from throttle body. 2. Unbolt the throttle linkage from the intake plenum by unbolting the single 12mm-sized bolt. 3. Unbolt the lower vacuum line from intake plenum. Remove the four bolts (some models may have bolt/stud combination, either case they all need to be removed) from the intake manifold. 4. Separate throttle body from the intake plenum and remove the OE gasket. Place the Helix Power Tower PLUS (engraved side towards throttle body) with the new gaskets in between the throttle body and the intake plenum. Secure with the new longer bolts supplied with this kit. On 2003-2004 models you will need to use the longer 8mmx110mm bolts to complete the installation. Torque the assembly to 15 ft/lbs. 5. Install the throttle linkage extender plate to plenum (original stock location) with OE bolt. Please make sure the roll pin of the plate is in locator hole on plenum. Reinstall the throttle linkage to the extender plate and use the supplied hardware to secure it to the new extender plate. Torque both bolts to 10 ft/lb. 6. Install new vacuum line extender (black z-bend bracket) to original location with OE bolt and install vacuum line bracket to this extender with the supplied hardware. Torque both bolts to 8 ft/lb. (Note: it may be necessary to lengthen the linkage cable and vacuum line from the intake plenum anchor points) 7. Reinstall the air cleaner duct to the throttle body.


1 . Operating the sunroof normally, slide the glass open part way. Do not open fully. The glass must be driven past the vent only position, revealing at least 2 inches of open space in front. If the sunroof will not slide back at least 2 inches under its own power, DO NOT PROCEED – refer to technical staff. 2. Remove the motor from the sunroof. 3. For H300L/M, Skyroof LS, disengage the drive gear from the cables by removing the gearbox cover plate and removing the gear. NOTE: H300L/M & Skyroof LS drive the gear from a splined shaft on the motor. The main drive gear is part of motor assembly on Sport, X48, X1000, ASI300/450, therefore this step is not neeccessarry for those models. 3 . Gripping the front edge of the glass, gently push the glass open until both left and right sides stop. Verify that the glass is fully open. Verify that the leading edge of the glass panel is parallel to the frame leading edge. 4. Check screws on cable guide housing (bright casting that motor engages) . If loose, check [re- insert] cable guide tube ends, apply Loc-Tite to screw threads and re-tighten. Additional for Sport Spoiler : Check left and right cable guide tube ends. Clamps should securely hold cable guide tube ends in place. If not, remove clamp, bend straight (or replace) and reinstall clamp over guide tube ends. Caution – overtightnening screws will strip threads . 5 . Re-install the motor [and drive gear components] . Drive the sunroof open and closed several cycles. 6 . Verify that the sunroof is operating properly and that the problem has been resolved. If not resolved, refer totechnical staff.
