Upper Intake Manifold Removal 1. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. 2. Remove the pin-type retainers and the accelerator cable splash shield 3. Disconnect the throttle cable and the cruise control cable. 4. Disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) and Idle Air Control (IAC) valve electrical connectors. 5. Disconnect the harness Tom the throttle body stud. 6. Disconnect the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) vacuum regulator and vacuum supply hoses. 7. Disconnect the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) and Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) vacuum hoses. 8. Remove the EGR valve. 9. Remove the EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) valve. Zoom Sized for Print 1 Disconnect the vacuum hose. 2 Remove the nuts. 3 Remove the bolts. 4 Remove the EGR valve. Remove the eight bolts and the upper intake manifold. * Remove and discard the gaskets. * Clean all mating surfaces. Installation 1. Position new gaskets in the upper intake manifold. 2. Position the upper intake manifold and install the bolts in the sequence shown. 3. Install the EGR vacuum regulator valve. 4. Install the EGR valve. Intake Manifold—Lower Removal 1. Partially drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03 . 2. Remove the upper intake manifold (9424). For additional information, refer to Intake Manifold—Upper in this section. 3. Remove the fuel supply manifold (9F792). For additional information, refer to Section 303-04B . 4. Disconnect the EGR vacuum tube (9E498). 5. Disconnect the EGR-to-exhaust manifold tube (9D477). * Loosen the nut. 6. Disconnect the upper radiator hose (8260). * Reposition the clamp. * Disconnect the hose. 7. Disconnect the heater hose (18472). * Compress the fitting * Disconnect the hose. 8. Disconnect the intake manifold runner control (IMRC). 9. Position the water bypass tube (8555) aside. 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Position the tube aside. 10. NOTE: Note the location of the six long bolts. Remove the lower intake manifold (9J447). 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Remove the intake manifold. 11. Apply a bead of sealant to the intake manifold front and rear end seal mounting points as indicated. * Use Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G323-A4. 3. Install the lower intake manifold front and rear end seals. 3. Install the intake manifold gaskets (9439). 4. Install the intake manifold runner control (IMRC) if required. For additional information, refer to Section 303-14 . 5. NOTE: The lower intake manifold must be installed within four minutes of applying sealant. Position the lower intake manifold. 1. Apply a bead of sealant to the lower intake manifold mounting at the points indicated. * Use Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G323-A4. 3. Position the lower intake manifold.

Intake Manifold—Gasoline Engines Removal 1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01 . 2. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03 . 3. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. For additional information, refer to Section 303-12 . 4. Disconnect the fuel line. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00A or Section 310-00B . 5. Remove the wiper arm and pivot shaft. For additional information, refer to Section 501-16 . 6. Remove the drive belt. For additional information, refer to Section 303-05 . 7. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02 . 8. Disconnect the electrical connector at the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor. * Disconnect the pin-type retainer from the A/C compressor bracket. 9. Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C compressor. 10. Remove the oil bypass filter. 11. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector and the power steering pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector. 12. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube from the exhaust manifold 13. Lower the vehicle. 14. Disconnect the two differential pressure feedback EGR hoses. 15. Disconnect the RH heated oxygen sensor electrical connector. 16. Disconnect the fuel charging wiring electrical connectors from the eight ignition coils. 17. Disconnect the fuel charging wiring electrical connectors from the eight fuel injectors. 18. Disconnect the accelerator cable and the speed control actuator cable. 19. Remove the cables from the EGR tube heat shield and position out of the way. 20. Remove the bolts and the EGR tube heat shield. 21. Disconnect the evaporative emissions (EVAP) return tube, the main chassis vacuum supply line, and the EGR valve vacuum supply. 22. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube assembly at two locations and remove. 23. Disconnect the electrical connector from the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid. 24. Disconnect the vacuum line from the EVAP canister purge valve. 25. Disconnect the generator cable and electrical connector 26. Remove the bolts and the generator mounting bracket. 27. Remove the upper radiator hose. 28. Disconnect the electrical connector from the idle air control (IAC) valve and the throttle position (TP) sensor. 29. Disconnect the heater water hose. 30. Disconnect the EGR tube from the EGR valve. 31. NOTE: The LH heated oxygen sensor and the transmission electrical connectors are attached to the wiring bracket and must be separated from the bracket. Remove the wiring bracket. * Disconnect the wiring connectors. * Separate the transmission harness from the stud. * Remove the nut and the bolt and remove the bracket.

Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper) Notes Intake Manifold Replacement – Upper Removal Procedure Important: The upper intake does not have to be removed to remove the lower intake manifold. 1. Disconnect the breather tube at the air cleaner outlet duct 2. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct retaining wingnut. 3. Disconnect the IAT sensor harness connector 4. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct from the throttle body. 5. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle body 6. Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator control cable bracket. 7. Disconnect the cruise control cable, if equipped from the throttle shaft and the accelerator cable bracket. 8. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the intake manifold for the vacuum tank. 9. Remove the power brake booster vacuum hose. 10. Disconnect the following electrical connectors: * The A/C compressor clutch (1) * The A/C compressor cutoff switch (5), if equipped * The Throttle Position (TP) sensor (2) * The Idle Air Control (IAC) motor (3) 11. Disconnect the following electrical connectors: * The fuel meter body assembly (1) * The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor(3) * The EVAP canister purge solenoid valve (2) 12. Remove the engine wire harness clip from the accelerator cable bracket. 13. Move the engine wiring harness aside. 14. Remove the accelerator cable bracket from the throttle body and the intake manifold. 15. Remove the accelerator and cruise control cable bracket from the throttle body. Leave the accelerator and cruise control cables on the bracket16. Remove the PCV valve hose assembly from the intake manifold and the valve rocker arm cover. 17. Remove the bracket for the engine wiring harness from the intake manifold stud. 18. Remove the fuel lines from the fuel meter body assembly. 19. Remove the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve.
