Radiator Air Baffle and Deflector Replacement – Upper Removal Procedure 1. Remove the radiator air baffle retainers. 2. Tilt the rear of air baffle upward slightly. Slide the air baffle rearward in order to disengage the upper and lower clips of the air baffle from the fascia support. 3. Remove the radiator air baffle. Installation Procedure 2002 Chevrolet Impala 1. Position the radiator air baffle to the vehicle. Tilt the rear of the air baffle upward slightly. Position the upper clip of the air baffle to the lower edge of the front fascia support C-channel. 2. Slide the baffle towards the front of the vehicle in order to completely engage the upper and lower clips of the baffle onto the fascia support. 3. Align the tabs at the rear of the air baffle to the openings in the upper radiator support. 4. Install the radiator air baffle retainers.

TIMING BELT REMOVAL 1. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT 2. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER 3. REMOVE AIR CLEANER DUCT 4. REMOVE DRIVE BELT, FAN WITH FLUID COUPLING AND WATER PUMP PULLEY (See step 5 in water pump removal in Cooling System) 5. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY (See steps 5 and 6 in radiator removal in Cooling System) 6. REMOVE NO.3 TIMING BELT COVER (a) Remove the oil filler cap. (b) Using a 5 mm hexagon wrench, remove the 6 bolts and belt cover. 7. REMOVE NO.2 TIMING BELT COVER Using a 5 mm hexagon wrench, remove the 3 bolts, belt cover and gasket. If you are unable to loosen the bolt on the right because the PS pump pulley interferes with the hexagon wrench, first remove the pulley as follows. (a) Using SST to hold the pulley, remove the nut. SST 09960-10010 (b) Remove the pulley. 8. REMOVE DRIVE BELT TENSIONER Remove the 3 bolts and tensioner. – ENGINE ENGINE MECHANICAL EG-19 9. SET NO.1 CYLINDER TO TDC/COMPRESSION (a) Turn the crankshaft pulley, and align its groove with timing mark “0″ of the No.1 timing belt cover. NOTICE: Always turn the crankshaft clockwise. (b) Check that the timing marks of the camshaft timing pulleys are aligned with the timing marks of the No.4 timing belt cover. If not, turn the crankshaft 1 revolution (360?). 10. REMOVE TIMING BELT FROM CAMSHAFT TIMING PULLEYS HINT (Re-using timing belt): Place matchmarks on the timing belt and camshaft timing pulleys as shown in the illustration. (a) Alternately loosen the 2 bolts, and remove them, the tensioner and dust boot. (b) Disconnect the timing belt from the camshaft timing pulleys. 11. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING PULLEYS Using SST, remove the bolt for the timing pulley. Remove both timing pulleys. SST 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000) 12. Removal 1. Remove upper radiator crossmember. Disconnect fan assembly connector. Remove fan assembly. Remove drive belts. Using Crankshaft Pulley Holder (8191), hold crankshaft pulley and remove center bolt. Using a 3-jaw puller, remove crankshaft pulley. 2. Remove upper intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD . Remove electrical and vacuum harness retaining clips from valve cover studs. Remove ignition coils. Remove valve covers. Remove power steering pump and set aside. Remove drive belt tensioner pulley and bracket. Remove timing chain cover. 3. Align crankshaft sprocket timing mark to mark on oil pump housing. Mark on oil pump housing is 60 degrees ATDC of number one cylinder. See Fig. 10

OIL PAN(A4 & A6) Removal (Lower Pan- A4 & A6) 1. Disconnect negative battery cable. 2. Remove engine noise insulator (undercover). See Fig. 12 . Drain engine oil. 3. Unbolt left and right swaybar stabilizer bracket bolts (4) from mounting bracket. See Fig. 98 . Lower swaybar stabilizer not more than 10cm (3.94 INCHES) and secure with heavy wire. 4. If vehicle is equipped with automatic transmission, unbolt oil cooler pipe (line) bracket from right side oil pan. 5. Remove lower oil pan. To install oil pan (lower), see INSTALLATION (LOWER OIL PAN- A4 & A6) . Installation (Lower Oil Pan- A4 & A6) 1. Ensure oil pan surfaces are clean and dry. Remove residual sealant from oil pan, if necessary, with hand drill and plastic brush instead of a flat scrapper. See Fig. 99 . Install gasket. 2. Install 2 bolts diagonal to each other (to hold up pan). Install the rest of the bolts and hand tighten. 3. Starting at center and moving outward, tighten lower oil pan to upper oil pan bolts to 10 N.m (89 INCH lbs.). Tighten oil pan drain plug 30 N.m (22 ft. lbs.). Wait 30 minutes before filling with engine oil. Tighten all bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . 4. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Fill and bleed cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING . Removal (Upper Oil Pan- A4 & A6) 1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove oil dipstick. Unbolt oil dipstick tube at front of cylinder head. Remove oil dipstick tube. 2. Remove engine noise insulator (undercover). See Fig. 12 . Drain engine oil. 3. Move lock carrier into service position. See LOCK CARRIER . This will allow servicing of front engine components and facilitate removal of oil pan. 4. Open coolant expansion tank cap, drain cooling system at radiator. Open the coolant pump bearing housing drain plug. Located at bottom of block near transmission bell housing, drivers side of vehicle. See Fig. 32 – Fig. 33 . If vehicle is equipped with automatic transmission, unbolt oil cooler pipe (line) CAUTION: Wear eye protection NOTE: Obtain radio code before disconnecting battery. For help in identifying components and component locations, refer to illustrations Fig. 108 -Fig. 109 . Position Engine Support (10-222A) with (10-222A/3) engine support adapter, or equivalent, on bolted flanges of fenders. Connect support bracket to front and rear engine lifting eyes. Lift up engine as far as possible. DO NOT use excessive force to raise engine. 6. Cut tie wraps and open bracket supporting starter wiring. See Fig. 97 . Disconnect electrical connection at starter.
