(a) Align the matchmarks and install the front drive shaft assembly to the front axle hub sub-assembly. (b) Install the front axle assembly to the front shock absorber with the 2 bolts and the 2 nuts. 1999-2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2000-2002 CHEVROLET TAHOE, SUBURBAN 2002 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE 1999-2002 GMC SIERRA 2000-2002 GMC YUKON, YUKON XL LOCATED IN THE SEVERE CORROSION AREAS LISTED BELOW Service Procedure The following procedure provides instructions for repairing a corrosion condition where the front wheel speed sensor mounts on the front wheel bearing assembly. 1. Raise the vehicle on a suitable hoist and support as necessary. 2. Remove both front tires and wheels. 3. Compress the front brake caliper pistons. 3.1. Install a large C-clamp over the top of the caliper housing and against the back of the outboard pad. 3.2. Slowly tighten the C-clamp until the pistons are pushed completely into the caliper bores. 3.3. Remove the C-clamp from the caliper. Important: It is not necessary to remove the front brake caliper from the bracket when removing the bracket in the next step. 4. Remove the two bolts that attach the front brake caliper mounting brackets to the knuckle. Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic’s wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount, and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak. 5. Remove the brake caliper and bracket as an assembly and support it with heavy mechanic’s wire or equivalent. DO NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. 6. Mark the relationship of the rotor to the bearing hub. 7. If equipped, remove the rotor retaining push nuts from the wheel studs

WHEEL HUB, BEARING, AND SEAL REPLACEMENT (4WD) Tools Required J 45859 Axle Remover Removal Procedure 1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information. 2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels. 3. Remove the rotor. Remove the wheel drive shaft nut retaining cover. IMPORTANT: Do not reuse the nut. A new nut must be used when installing the wheel drive shaft. Remove the wheel driveshaft assembly retaining nut (2) and washer (3) from the wheel driveshaft. 7. FRONT DISASSEMBLY 1) PREPARE VEHICLE… â Place the vehicle in neutral. Raise the front of vehicle and place jack stands underneath frame raise a few inches behind the sway bar mounting points. Ease vehicle down on to stands. Put transmission in gear or “park”, set emergency brake and chock rear fires to prevent accidental movement. Remove the front tires. 2) ANTI-SWAY BAR and SKID PLATE… ââ Unbolt the brackets that attach the front anti-sway bar body to the frame. â Remove the stock skid plate located below the radiator. If the vehicle has a splash shield on either side of the radiator (not found on all models), remove these as well. 3) LOWER CONTROL ARMS (LCA) … ââ Remove front shock absorbers. On both sides, remove the 2 eccentric cam bolts that attach the LCA-to-frame; retain bolts for use later. Dislodge LCAs from their mounts, and let hang. 4) LCA CROSSMEMBERS (DIAGRAM 1)… â Remove the differential-to-front crossmember bolt (save for reuse), then remove and discard the stock front crossmember. The #55-11 -7055 front crossmember has axle mounting tabs, as shown. The rear crossmember, #55-12-7055, has a hole at each end of its main beam for the optional kicker braces to install. Mount the crossmember with these holes facing rear of vehicle. â The 1-7/8 ” x 1-13/16″ tabs are used as locking washers for the 5/8″ x 4″ bolts that attach the Superlift crossmembers-to-frame pillars. It is not unusual for the frame pillars to be bent somewhat, causing misalignment. If you experience this, and mis-alignment is no more than 1/4″, trim the tabs’ width until they seat properly. If more than 1/4″ mis-alignment exists, contact Superlift before proceeding.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION FWD AXLE SHAFT Removal (Axle Shaft) 1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheel assembly. Remove wheel bearing lock nut. Remove brake caliper, and support aside. Remove brake rotor. 2. Disconnect tie rod end. Remove upper knuckle nut, and separate knuckle assembly from third link assembly. Push axle shaft through hub, and separate axle assembly from knuckle assembly. 3. Insert screwdriver blade between transaxle case and right axle inner CV joint. Pry out on joint until joint pops free. Use care not to damage axle boot or axle seal. 4. On M/T vehicles, remove left axle in same manner. On A/T vehicles, insert screwdriver through differential, and drive axle out of transaxle case using a hammer. See Fig. 2 . Thread wheel bearing lock nut onto joint. Using a slide hammer and bearing puller, remove joint from axle shaft. See Fig. 3 . NOTE: Outer joint cannot be disassembled. If boot is being reused, take care not to cut boot on axle splines during removal. Clean CV joint in suitable solvent. Inspect components, and replace joint if necessary.
