Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair Gearbox – KV6 – NAS Models JATCO Gearbox – KV6 – NAS models Remove 1. Position the vehicle on a twin-post lift. 2. Tie bonnet back in upright position. 3. Disconnect battery earth lead. 4. Remove engine acoustic cover. 5. Release HO2S multiplug from support bracket on LH camshaft cover, disconnect multiplug. 6. Raise vehicle on lift. 7. Remove rear beam. 8. Remove RH catalytic converter 2002 Land Rover Freelander (LN) V6-2.5L Copyright © 2010, ALLDATA 10.20 Page 3 12. Remove bolt securing front pipe to bracket and remove front pipe. Discard gasket. 13. Remove 3 screws securing LH splash shield and remove shield 14. Release HO2S lead from clip on cylinder block. Remove 4 nuts securing exhaust manifold to cylinder head, remove manifold and discard gasket. 15. Drain fluid from IRD. 16. Drain gearbox fluid. 17. FitLRT-54-026 to the RH drive shaft inboard joint. 18. Using a suitable lever, release drive shaft from IRD. 19. With assistance, pull hub outwards and release drive shaft from IRD. CAUTION: Care must be taken not to damage oil seal when removing drive shaft from IRD. CAUTION: To avoid damage to gaiter or joint, do not allow shaft to hang on joint. 20. Remove LRT-54-026 from RH drive shaft inboard joint.

THERMOSTAT REPLACEMENT (3.1 L) Tools Required J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers Removal Procedure 1. Remove the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to AIR CLEANER INTAKE DUCT . 2. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System . 3. Use the J 38185 in order reposition the hose clamp from the water outlet housing. 4. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the water outlet housing. 5. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to EXHAUST CROSSOVER PIPE REPLACEMENT (3.1L) or EXHAUST CROSSOVER PIPE REPLACEMENT (3.8L) Fig. 74: Radiator Inlet Hose & Water Outlet Housing Courtesy of GENERAL MOTORS CORP. 6. SERVICE PROCEDURE You will be performing the following, as required: • Determine the DTC Stored in ECM from the CONSULT-II Self-diagnosis results. • ECM Part Number Check to determine if this bulletin applies. • ECM Reprogramming (required if the ECM P/N in the vehicle matches one of those listed under “Current ECM P/N” in Chart A -page 2). • Replacing the Rear Oxygen Sensor (required if ECM Reprogramming is needed). Removal Procedure 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Remove the floor console. 3. Remove the sun sensor and the automatic temperature controls assembly. 4. Remove the tweeter speakers and the stereo cassette AM/FM radio. Refer to Section 9F, Audio Systems. 5. Remove the screws and the instrument panel storage compartment. 6. Remove the instrument cluster dimmer switch assembly. 7. Remove the instrument cluster. 8. Remove the chime module. 9. Remove the kick panels. 10. Remove the glove box. 11. Remove the screws and the glove box housing. 12. Disconnect the glove box housing electrical connectors. 13. Remove the knee bolster. 14. Lower the steering column. 17. Remove the screw behind the stereo cassette AM/FM radio. 18. Remove the screw securing the instrument panel to the heater air distributor case. 19. Remove the instrument panel bolts below the windshield. 22. Remove the bolts securing the bottom of the instrument panel to the floor. 23. Remove the instrument panel. Installation Procedure 1. Position the instrument panel in the vehicle. 2. Connect the instrument panel electrical connectors. NOTE: Dissimilar metals in direct contact with each other may corrode rapidly. Make sure to use the correct fasteners to prevent premature corrosion. 3. Install the bolts securing the sides of the instrument panel to the body. Tighten Tighten the instrument panel-to-body bolts to 22 N.m (16 lb-ft) . 4. Install the bolts securing the bottom of the instrument panel to the floor. Tighten Tighten the instrument panel-to-floor bolts to 22 N.m (16 lb-ft) .

2000-2002 Buick Century, Regal 2000-2001 Chevrolet Lumina 2000-2002 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo 2000-2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 2000-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue 1. Verify that the coolant is at proper level in the radiator and the coolant recovery bottle. If the coolant is low, add proper amount of 50/50 water and DEX-COOL® mixture. If the low coolant light operates properly, diagnose the cooling system for loss of coolant as outlined in SI. DO NOT proceed further with this bulletin. 2. Remove the low coolant level sensor. Refer to Coolant Level Module Replacement in the Engine Cooling sub-section. 3. With the key on, the engine off and the coolant level sensor disconnected from the vehicle wiring harness, observe the low coolant light: Subject: Low Engine Coolant Level Indicator Always On (Diagnose Low Coolant Level System Operation/Check Sensor for Oil Contamination) Models: 2000-2002 Buick Century, Regal 2000-2001 Chevrolet Lumina 2000-2002 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo 2000-2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 2000-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue • Light is on — Chassis wiring or instrument cluster concern. Follow the appropriate diagnostic information in SI. • 4. With the key off, connect the coolant level sensor into the vehicle’s wiring harness. Connect a ground wire (1) to the battery negative terminal. Using a sharp probe (3) attached to the ground wire, ground the coolant sensor probe (2) as shown in the illustration. Make sure a good contact is made. With the key on and the engine off, observe the low coolant light for at least 15 seconds. 5. Using a small wire brush or emery cloth, polish the low coolant level sensor probe to remove any film or oxidation. The probe should be a bright brass color when finished. Use Brake Parts Cleaner to flush removed deposits from the low coolant sensor probe. Reinstall the low coolant sensor into the vehicle and proceed to Step 6. 6. Flush the cooling system and install new DEX-COOL® mixture as outlined in the SI. Check the vehicle’s warranty history to determine if any engine gasket had recently been changed. If there has not been a recent gasket replacement, locate and repair the source of the engine oil contamination

Removal & Installation 1. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly. See Fig. 10 . Drain the coolant until the coolant level is below the thermostat. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING . 2. Remove the crossover exhaust pipe. See Fig. 11 . Remove the radiator hose from the thermostat housing. 3. Remove the thermostat housing bolts and clean any sealer from the bolt threads. See Fig. 12 . Remove the thermostat housing and gasket. 4. Remove the thermostat. Inspect and clean the mating surfaces. 5. Install the thermostat housing and gasket. Install RTV sealer (GM P/N 1052366) to the thermostat housing bolt threads. Install the thermostat housing bolts. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . 6. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Fill the cooling system. Inspect the cooling system for leaks. Repair as necessary.

Service Repair No – 12.65.18 Remove 1. Disconnect battery earth lead. 2. Remove ancillary drive belt . 3. Remove RH front road wheel. 4. Remove 3 bolts securing RH splash shield to body and remove shield. 5. Remove 3 bolts securing camshaft timing belt LH rear cover and remove cover. 6. Rotate crankshaft in a clockwise direction and align the engine “SAFE” position, notch on crankshaft pulley aligned to the “ARROW” on front mounting plate and the timing marks aligned on the rear camshaft gears as illustrated 7. Remove bolt securing PAS pipe to engine front mounting plate. 8. Remove 3 Torx screws securing PAS pump pulley and remove pulley. Zoom Sized for Print Zoom Sized for Print Zoom Sized for Print 9. Remove 3 bolts securing PAS pump to front mounting plate and tie pump aside. 10. Release alternator battery lead terminal cover, loosen terminal nut and disconnect lead from terminal. 11. Disconnect multiplug from alternator. 12. Remove lower bolt and upper nut and bolt securing alternator to front mounting plate. 13. Remove alternator. 14. Remove Torx screw securing idler pulley to front mounting plate and remove pulley 15. Loosen bolt securing lower engine steady to front subframe. 16. Remove bolt securing lower engine steady to sump mounting, release lower engine steady from sump mounting. 17. Remove 3 bolts securing camshaft timing belt RH front cover and remove cover 18. Remove 3 bolts securing camshaft timing belt LH front cover and remove cover. 19. Assemble LRT-12-161 to LRT-12-199 and secure with clamp bolt. 20. Insert LRT-12-161 with LRT-12-199 into crankshaft pulley, loosen and remove pulley bolt. 21. Remove special tool from crankshaft pulley and remove crankshaft pulley. 22. Remove 3 bolts securing camshaft timing belt lower cover to cylinder block and remove cover. 23. Remove 2 bolts securing ancillary drive belt tensioner and remove tensioner. 24. Note fitted position of heat shield on A/C compressor and remove 3 bolts securing A/C compressor to front mounting plate and cylinder block. Release A/C compressor and heat shield and position aside. 25. Drain engine oil.

Aligning Timing Marks (2001-02 Montero) Courtesy of MITSUBISHI MOTOR SALES OF AMERICA. Installation (2001-02 Montero) 1. Place auto-tensioner in soft-jawed vise to SLOWLY compress the push rod. If there is a plug at the base of the auto-tensioner body, place flat washer around plug so it will not contact vise jaw. 2. Slowly compress auto-tensioner push rod until holes in push rod and auto-tensioner housing are aligned. Insert a locking pin into the alignment holes. Install auto-tensioner on engine. 3. Ensure all timing marks are still aligned. See Fig. 11 . Install timing belt on crankshaft sprocket, idler pulley, left bank camshaft sprocket, water pump pulley, right bank camshaft sprocket, and tensioner CAUTION: Never compress the auto-tensioner too fast, or the push rod will be damaged. WARNING: Right bank camshaft can easily turn from applied spring pressure. Be careful not to pinch fingers when installing timing belt. 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Limited MITSUBISHI 3.5L V6 – SOHC many waters gallery pulley. Take all slack out of timing belt. 4. Loosen the tensioner pulley center bolt. Using Tensioner Pulley Wrench (MD998767), rotate tensioner pulley against timing belt. Temporarily tighten tensioner pulley center bolt. Using Crankshaft Pulley Spacer (MD998769), turn crankshaft 1/4 turn counterclockwise. Turn crankshaft 1/4 turn clockwise. Ensure all timing belt marks are still aligned. 5. Loosen tensioner pulley center bolt. Position tensioner pin holes at bottom of tensioner. Install Tensioner Pulley Wrench (MD998767) on tensioner pulley. See Fig. 12 . Using torque wrench, apply 39 INCH lbs. (4.4 N.m) of torque (counterclockwise direction) to tensioner pulley. Tighten tensioner center bolt to specification while holding tensioner pulley stationary. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . 6. Remove locking pin from auto-tensioner. Turn crankshaft 2 revolutions clockwise and align all timing marks. DO NOT rotate counterclockwise. 7. Wait for at least 5 minutes, then check auto-tensioner push rod protrusion. To check push rod protrusion, measure clearance between body of auto-tensioner and bottom of tensioner pulley bracket arm. Clearance should be 0.15-0.20″ (3.8-5.0 mm). If protrusion is not correct, repeat timing belt tensioning procedure. Ensure all timing marks are aligned. 8. Install timing belt covers. See Fig. 10 . Install crankshaft pulley. Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install accessory mount assembly on front of engine. See Fig. 13 . See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . To install remaining components, reverse removal procedures. See Fig. 7 and Fig. 8 . Adjust drive belts to proper tension. 9. When filling cooling system, use 50/50 mix of coolant and water. Open bleed screw on top of thermostat housing. Slowly fill cooling system until coolant flows out of bleed hole. Install bleed screw. Start engine and run to normal operating temperature. Race engine to 3000 RPM several times. Stop engine. After engine cools, refill radiator and coolant reservoir tank.

TOYOTA 4-Runner 1990-95 Pickup (standard cab) 1989-2002 / Pickup (extended cab) 1989-2002 Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent an accidental short circuit. Remove (3) screws and (1) 10mm bolt from the driver’s side speaker panel and remove the panel. Remove (1) 10mm bolt from the bottom of the passenger’s side speaker panel. Remove (3) screws from the side of the panel and remove the glove box. Remove (4) screws securing the factory head unit and disconnect the wiring. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent an accidental short circuit. Remove the climate control knobs. Unclip the climate control trim panel and remove (2) Phillips screws exposed. Unclip the dash trim bezel, lift up on the bezel and remove. DOUBLE DIN APPLICATIONS: Skip to the Installation Instructions for ALL VEHICLES on Page #3. SINGLE DIN APPLICATIONS: Cut and remove the bottom portion of the Radio Housing (see Fig. A) and Faceplate (see Fig. B). Skip to the Installation Instructions for ALL VEHICLES on Page #3. 12 1 2 TOYOTA Tacoma 1995-02 1 Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent an accidental short circuit. Pull the cupholder out. Unclip the radio trim bezel and remove. Remove (4) screws securing the factory head unit and disconnect the wiring.

For additional information, refer to Section 303-12 . 3. Remove the air cleaner housing. 1. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector. 2. Remove the bolt. 3. Remove the housing. 4. CAUTION: To disconnect the Norma fitting, squeeze the tabs and pull straight out or damage to the fitting can occur. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube. 5. Disconnect the fuel hose. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00 . 6. Disconnect the evaporative emission canister purge valve hose. 7. Remove the vapor management valve (VMV) cover.
