1998 Chrysler Town And Country LX SERPENTINE BELT SLIPS OFF IDLER PULLEY REPAIR PROCEDURE

REPAIR PROCEDURE This repair is compatible with DaimlerChrysler’s Mobile Service Program and does not require hoists or other full service facility special equipment. 1. Remove the serpentine belt from around the idler pulley by rotating the tensioner clockwise ( Fig. 3 ). 2. Remove the purge duty cycle solenoid and wiring harness from the right side engine mount. 3. Remove the two right side engine mount insulator vertical fasteners and loosen the horizontal fastener. DO NOT remove the large nut in the center of the core of the insulator ( Fig. 4 ). 4. Remove the load on the engine mount by carefully supporting the engine with a floor jack. 5. Remove the vertical and horizontal fasteners from the engine side bracket. Remove the engine mount assembly. 6. Remove the idler pulley from the engine mounting bracket. ( Fig. 3 ). 7. Remove the engine mounting bracket. 8. Install a new engine mounting bracket. Torque the fasteners to 40-68 N.m (30-50 ft-lbs.). 9. Install the idler pulley to the engine mounting bracket. Torque the fastener to 40-68 N.m (30-50 ft-lbs.). 10. Properly route and position a serpentine belt onto all pulleys except the idler pulley (Use a new belt if there is any evidence of damage to the original one). 11. Rotate the belt tensioner clockwise until the belt can be installed onto the idler pulley. Slowly release the belt tensioner. 12. Install the engine mount; torque the assembly in the following order, engine mount to rail fasteners 68 N.m (50 ft-lbs.), vertical fastener 102 N.m (75 ft-lbs.), and horizontal fastener 150 N.m (111 ft-lbs.). 13. Install the purge duty cycle solenoid to the engine mount. 14. Start the vehicle and let it run for one minute then turn the engine off. 15. Verify the serpentine belt is properly aligned ( Fig. 1 ) 16. If the serpentine belt has moved toward the outboard edge of the idler pulley, further diagnosis will be required. A. Service Procedure for All Vehicles Equipped With MANUAL Seat Adjusters and 2000-2002 Model Year Vehicles Built AFTER January 1, 2000 (MDH 0101XX) Equipped With POWER Seat Adjusters. 1. Move the driver’s seat to the rearward-most position and raise the seat to its highest position (power seat only). 2. Adjust the seat back to the full forward position. 3. Remove the two side screws (power only) and the rear screw (all) from the seat side shield and then rotate the shield away from the rear of the seat (Figure 1). 4. Using a ¼” drive air ratchet and a T30 Torx bit (Snap-on P/N TTX30E or equivalent), remove the outboard recliner paddle-to- seat back frame bolt (Figure 2). Using a ¼” drive air ratchet and a T30 Torx bit, install one of the supplied bolts into the hole in the recliner paddle (Figure 3) and then into the hole in the seat back frame. Using an inch-pound torque wrench, tighten the bolt (without the nut attached) to 90 in-lbs (10.2 N?m). NOTE: If the seat back frame threads are stripped, tighten the bolt as much as possible and then install and tighten the nut. IMPORTANT: Use the proper size torque wrench. Do NOT over tighten. Do not use a foot-pound torque wrench. 6. Install one of the supplied nuts onto the bolt (Figure 3). While holding the bolt stationary, tighten the nut to 110 in-lbs (12.5 N?m). 7. Repeat Steps 4-6 for the inboard recliner paddle-to-seat back frame bolt. 8. Install the seat side shield. Tighten the screws securely. 9. Return the driver’s seat to its original position and then return the vehicle to the customer.

Battery Replacement Notes WARNING: TO PROTECT THE HANDS FROM BATTERY ACID, A SUITABLE PAIR OF HEAVY DUTY RUBBER GLOVES, NOT THE HOUSEHOLD TYPE, SHOULD BE WORN WHEN REMOVING OR SERVICING A BATTERY. SAFETY GLASSES ALSO SHOULD BE WORN . REMOVAL 1. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. 2. Verify that the ignition switch and all accessories are OFF. 3. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable remote terminal from the remote battery post. 4. Remove air cleaner housing. 5. Remove battery splash shield. 6. Remove two short bolts to battery hold down. 7. Slide battery rearward to disconnect the negative and positive battery terminals from battery. 8. Slide battery toward rear of vehicle and lift out through wheel well opening. 9. Remove battery from vehicle. 1. Tighten clamp nuts to 8.5 N.m (75 in. lbs.) torque.INSTALLATION For installation, reverse the above procedures. Inspect and clean battery and attaching components before installation. PREP AND TUNING FOR POWER: NOTE: This manifold will produce optimum power and drivability when used with #1405 carburetors. Please refer to Edelbrock Performer Series Carburetor Owner’s Manual for tuning procedures. 1. Edelbrock has found, while dyno testing on a Performer level engine at our location, the best calibration to be: Metering Rods – .070″ x .047″ (stock 1405), Primary Jets – .098″ (provided with intake manifold), and Secondary Jets – .086″ (provided with intake manifold). This will vary according to engine build and atmospheric conditions. Use it as a starting point. However, if used for racing or marine installation, further tuning may be necessary. 2. Aftermarket distributor curve kits may be used with this intake manifold. A basic ignition curve of 12° to 14° initial and a total of 36° to 38° advance is a good starting point. 3. Use modified or high performance cylinder heads such as our Performer RPM. 4. Installation of aftermarket headers, camshafts or both may lean carburetor calibration. Should this condition occur, recalibrate with a richer jet. • CAMSHAFT AND HEADERS: Dual Quad manifolds are compatible with aftermarket camshafts and headers. Header primary tube diameter should be 1-7/8″, depending on the specific engine combination. Edelbrock has developed two camshafts for use with this intake manifold – Performer-Plus #2192 or Performer RPM #7194. Please check the catalog or website for rpm and application guidelines. INSTALLATION 1. Use only recommended intake gaskets set when installing this intake manifold. For ease of installation, we recommend Edelbrock Manifold Bolt and Washer Kit, #8594. 2. Fully clean the cylinder head intake flanges and the engine block end seal surfaces. 3. Use a factory style valley pan along with the recommended gaskets. 4. Apply Edelbrock Gasgacinch sealant P/N 9300 to both cylinder head flanges and to the cylinder head side of the gaskets, allow to air dry, and attach the intake gaskets. 5. Install the intake manifold and hold-down bolts. Torque all of the manifold bolts in two steps by the sequence shown in Figure 1 to 25 ft/lbs

NOTE: Please refer to Edelbrock Performer Series Carburetor Owner’s Manual for detailed tuning procedures. 1. Due to design, the fuel/air mixture and cylinder charging are very efficient with the CH-6B intake manifold. Generally speaking, the stock jetting for the recommended aftermarket carburetors will not need changing. Specific applications may show an increase in performance through further tuning. 2. Aftermarket distributor curve kits may be used with this intake manifold. 3. Use modified or high performance cylinder heads such as our Performer RPM. 4. The compression ratio should be at least 9.5 to 1 to work properly with Performer RPM camshafts. 5. Installation of aftermarket headers, camshafts or both may lean carburetor calibration.
