Instructions: 1. Remove the stock steering box and column. Be sure to clear the area of all wiring, brake lines and fuel lines. 2. Bolt the Toyota box to the mounting bracket so that the long arm of the bracket points in the same direction as the steering column input shaft (small shaft.) To mount the bracket and box correctly, the longer end should be towards the rear of the vehicle. It may be necessary to grind on the power steering box where the two flanges protrude above the bracket. For technical help call Classic Performance Products Monday thru Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm at (714) 522-2000. Rev. 8/17/2009 3. Locate the box/bracket assembly into the frame by centering the Toyota sector shaft through the original hole in the frame. This hole will need to be elongated approximately 3/8″ to allow the sector shaft to clear the frame. Bolt the bracket directly into the mounting holes for the original steering box. 4. With the first bolt in, check the fit by reattaching the steering box. Make sure the splined shaft goes through the frame without interference. Torque down the mounting bolts to 45 lbs. 5. Attach the pitman arm to the steering box. Before this is done the steering sector must be centered. Turn the input shaft clockwise as far as it can go. Make a reference mark. Now turn the shaft counter clockwise as far it can go and be sure to count the turns. Turn the shaft back half the distance and now the box is centered. Be sure to double and triple check this procedure. Attach the pitman arm to the output shaft with the output shaft nut. Torque the bolt down to 110ft/lbs. Reconnect the stock drag link and you are on your way

Inspect the power steering reservoir. Does one of the 3 ribs on the reservoir cover point toward the reservoir holder? Yes – This vehicle already has the revised power steering reservoir. Continue with normal troubleshooting procedures. No – Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE. REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Drain the power steering reservoir: •Remove the reservoir from its holder. •Raise the reservoir, and disconnect its return hose. •Drain the reservoir fluid into a suitable container. Take care not to spill any fluid on the body or other parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid immediately. 2. Drain the fluid from the power steering system: •Connect a suitable diameter drain hose to the disconnected return hose. •Hold the end of the drain hose in a suitable container. •Start the engine, and run it at idle while you turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock several times. •When the fluid stops running out of the hose, shut off the engine. •Discard the used fluid. 3. Reinstall the return hose to the reservoir, then reattach the reservoir to its holder. Fill the reservoir to its upper level line with new power steering fluid. 4. Bleed the air from the power steering system: •Start the engine. •With the engine at a fast idle, turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock several times. 5. Check the condition of the fluid in the reservoir: •If the fluid looks contaminated, dark, or discolored, repeat steps 1 thru 5. •If the fluid is clear, go to step 6. 6. Place a suitable container under the vehicle to catch any fluid 7. Replace the power steering fluid reservoir: •Remove the reservoir from its holder. •Disconnect the return hose from the reservoir, and pour the fluid from the reservoir into a container. •Disconnect the outlet hose from the reservoir, and remove the reservoir. •Install a new reservoir in the reverse order of removal. •Fill the reservoir to its upper level line with new power steering fluid. 8. Start the engine, and run it at a fast idle. Turn the steering from lock-to-lock several times to bleed any air from the system. 9. Recheck the fluid level in the reservoir, and add more if needed. Do not fill the reservoir beyond its upper level line.

INSPECTION When inspecting serpentine drive belts, small cracks that run across the ribbed surface of the belt from rib to rib are considered normal. If the the cracks are running along the rib (rather across), this is not normal and the belt(s) must be replaced. ADJUSTMENT It is not necessary to adjust belt tension on the 5.2L or 5.9L engines and on the 2.5L and 4.0L engines (without power steering). These engines are equipped with an automatic tensioner. The tensioner maintains correct tension at all times. 2.5L and 4.0L Engines With Power Steering See Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 If the vehicle is not equipped with power steering, it will be equipped with an idler pulley. If equipped with an idler pulley, refer to and follow the 5.2L/5.9L belt removal and installation procedure. Loosen the pump upper pivot bolt, lower locknut and pump adjusting bolt using a ratchet and 13mm socket or a 13mm box wrench. 1. Use a belt tension gauge placed in the middle of the belt being tested. Proper tension for a new belt is 180-200 lbs. (800-900 N) and 140-160 lbs. (623-712 N) for a used belt. 2.
