SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Access blower motor and resistor per the Workshop Manual Sections 412-02 and 412-04. Inspect for evidence of water/corrosion. If water/corrosion are found or parts have failed, replace per Workshop Manual (blower motor 1F1Z- 19805-AA and resistor F6DZ-19A706-AA). 2. Visually inspect the Cowl Vent Screen located under the RH windshield wiper to verify if the screen is fully seated. Inspect the rubber seal on the vent screen which should be fully seated against the windshield. If the cowl vent screen is not fully seated and appears warped, it must be replaced (4F1Z-54018A16- BAA). 3. Remove the cowl vent screen per the Workshop Manual Section 412-01 Pollen Filter Removal and inspect the cabin filter to confirm it is fully seated. Re-seat the filter as necessary. Inspect rain-hat base to make sure it is secure and sealed to the body. Reposition and reseal as necessary using Clear Silicone Rubber TA-32. 4. Remove the foam sealant expulsion at lower front outboard corner base of the rain-hat (Figure 1). Zoom Sized for Print 5. Locate the tape as shown (Figure 2). Remove the tape and apply Clear Silicone Rubber TA-32 to the small hole as shown (Figure 2) Parts Block Zoom Sized for Print 6. Install the Rain-Hat Extension Seal or Shed Lip Seal 4F1Z-54022A54-AA to the outboard edge of the rain-hat (see Figure 2 for installation). The 10 mm by 10 mm (0.5″ by 0.5″) cut area, located 25 mm (1″) from the end of the seal, will face down and locate at the 90 degree bend of the rain-hat on the fender side (Figure 3). 7. Prior to installation of the cowl vent screen, verify that the cabin filter cover is properly snapped in place and the clip is located on the inboard side, (toward the center of the bulkhead), the cover will feel loose if not properly snapped in place. Reinstall the cowl vent screen per Section 412-01 of the Workshop Manual.

Special Tool(s) Removal 1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. 2. Disconnect the shift cable from the manual control lever. 3. Disconnect the digital transmission range (TR) sensor electrical connector. 4. Remove the manual control outer lever nut and manual control outer lever. 2004 Ford Truck Ranger 2WD V6-4.0L VIN E 5. Remove the screws and the digital TR sensor. Installation 1. Install the digital TR sensor and loosely install the screws. 2. CAUTION: Tightening one screw before tightening the other may cause the sensor to bind or become damaged. NOTE: The manual lever must be in the NEUTRAL position. Using the special tool, align the digital TR sensor and tighten screws in an alternating sequence. 3. REMOVAL NOTE: The oil pump and valve body are removed as an assembly. 1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove battery, battery tray, and remote air cleaner. 2. Position supply hoses, vacuum hoses, and wiring away from pump and valve body cover. 3. Remove shift lever. 4. On models equipped with Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) , remove splash shield cover, then disconnect brake reservoir hose and cap to prevent contamination. 5. On all models, remove EGR bracket attaching bolts, then install lifting eye. 6. Remove throttle body bracket attaching bolt, install lifting eye, then using suitable equipment support engine. 7. Remove lefthand transaxle mount. 8. Remove transaxle side pan upper attaching bolts. 9. Raise and support vehicle. 10. Remove lefthand front wheel and tire assembly. 11. Remove inner fender cover and position aside, then disconnect ride height sensor. 12. Remove rear transaxle mount attaching bolt. 13. Loosen but do not remove two lefthand subframe attaching bolts. 14. Remove two engine support mount attaching bolts. 15. Remove four lefthand engine support attaching bolts, then remove the engine support. 16. Position suitable drain pan, then remove remaining transaxle side pan attaching bolts and remove pan. 17. Using suitable screwdriver, place manual shift shaft in Park position. 18. Disconnect upper bulkhead electrical connector wiring retainer clip from valve body. 19. Disconnect electrical connectors 20. Remove valve body attaching bolts, then disengage linkage and remove valve body. NOTE: Do not remove oil pump cover attaching bolts. INSTALLATION 1. Install new pump and valve body to chain cover gasket. 2. Slide pump and valve body onto pump shaft. 3. Rotate pump and valve body assembly toward dash panel, then engage manual valve link with manual valve. 4. Slightly rotate pump and valve body assembly to engage oil pump shaft splines with oil pump rotor splines. Valve body should slide flush with chain cover. A suitable 7/8 inch deep well socket on crankshaft pulley may be required for complete engagement. 5. On models less anti-skid, if engagement is not as indicated in step 4, proceed as follows: a. Remove manual valve from valve body. b. Rotate assembly to allow full engagement, up to 360° . c. After full engagement, return assembly to installed position, then install manual valve. Removal Procedure 1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting. 2. Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement- Front. 3. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement-Rear. 4. Remove the vent hose from the transfer case. 5. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connectors. 6. Remove the electrical connectors from the transfer case motor/encoder. 9. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the bolt securing the left side support brace to the transmission. 10. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the bolt and stud securing the left side support brace to the transfer case 11. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the two bolts securing the right side support brace to the transmission and transfer case. 12. For vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, remove the six nuts securing the transfer case and bracket to the transmission 13. Remove the transfer case. * Start by pulling the transfer case straight back from the transmission. * After the transfer case is pulled out from the transmission turn and lower the transfer case. 14. For vehicles equipped with a automatic transmission, remove the six nuts securing the transfer case and bracket to the transmission adapter. 15. Remove the transfer case. * Start by pulling the transfer case straight back from the transmission. * After the transfer case is pulled out from the transmission turn and lower the transfer case. 16. Remove and discard the gasket. Installation Procedure 1. Install a new gasket to the transmission. Use sealer GM P/N 12346004 in order to hold the gasket in place. 2. Raise and position the transfer case to the vehicle Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. 3. For vehicles equipped with a automatic transmission, install the six nuts securing the transfer case and bracket to the transmission adapter. * Tighten the nuts to 47 Nm (35 lb ft) . 4. For vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, install the six nuts securing the transfer case and bracket to the transmission. * Tighten the nuts to 47 Nm (35 lb ft)

Inspect main ground points (refer to SB99*04*S001 for more information). * P6 ground point-body [on the passenger side of engine compartment, between the battery and cruise control actuator (if equipped)]. (Figure Fig. 1 ) * P10 ground point-engine (at the alternator bracket) . (Figure Fig. 2 ) Isuzu: 1998 – 2000 Rodeo AFFECTED VEHICLES:1998 – 2000 Rodeo (UE)/Amigo (UA) models with 3.2L V6 engines NOTE: Please refer to the appropriate workshop manual for the correct diagnosing procedure and/or follow the service procedures outlined in this bulletin for the vehicle being serviced. NOTE: The 1998, 1999 or 2000 Rodeo/Amigo Electrical Troubleshooting Manual can assist in locating the vehicle ground distribution (i.e., ground contact points). * Perform a voltage drop test at the main ground points. * If the voltage drop test fails, then inspect and clean both the bolt and contact point. * Verify and correct idle settings (if needed) as described in the workshop manual. * If the repair procedure on this step solves the high idle condition, then return the vehicle to the customer. If the repair procedure on this step does not solve the high idle condition, then go to step 2 (16 pin Blue Connector). B. Remove P-6/P-10 ground terminal and bolt for ground contact inspection. * Inspect ground contact area for corrosion. * Inspect bolt and thread for damage or corrosion. * Clean the ground area and fastening bolt thoroughly with a wire brush. * Replace bolt if damaged or heavily corroded. C. Install the P-6/P-10 ground terminal and bolt (tighten using hand tools only). * Torque the P-6/P-10 ground terminal bolt to (14 N.m) 10 lb.ft. 1998 – 1999 MODELS ONLY 2. Inspect the 16 pin blue connector, located under the power steering fluid reservoir for corrosion, bent, or damaged pins (specifically for the Throttle Position Sensor). (Figure Fig. 3 )

1. To confirm the client’s complaint, test-drive the vehicle on a smooth road, preferably with a slight incline. Set the cruise control between 35 and 40 mph, and monitor the engine rpm using the vehicle’s tachometer, or use the HDS to take a snapshot of the engine rpm. 2. If the engine speed fluctuates several hundred rpm while maintaining a constant vehicle speed, disconnect the EGR valve and retest the vehicle. •If the fluctuation is gone, refer to the EGR troubleshooting in the service manual. •If the engine rpm still fluctuates, and the transmission does not have any other symptoms (shifting problems, slipping, transmission DTCs) go to step 3. 3. Drain the transmission fluid, then strain it through a paint strainer. •If you find little or no contamination in the strainer, the ATF is OK, even if it smells burnt, is discolored, and/or the magnetic drain plug has small chips, flakes, or metal fuzz on it. Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE A . •If you find large amounts of contamination (pieces of metal or friction material) in the strainer, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B . REPAIR PROCEDURE A 1. Remove the torque converter: •Refer to page 14-203 of the 2003-04 MDX Service Manual , or •Online, enter keyword A/T REM , and select A/T Removal from the list. 2. Install the torque converter: •Refer to page 14-215 of the 2003-04 MDX Service Manual , or •Online, enter keyword A/T INSTALL , and select A/T Installation from the list. 3. Update the PGM-FI software using HDS version 1.018.016 or later (see SOFTWARE INFORMATION ). Refer to service bulletin 01-026, Updating the ECM/PCM . 4. Do the idle learn procedure: •Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio unit, defogger, lights, etc.) are off. •Start the engine, and let it run until it reaches its normal operating temperature (cooling fan cycles twice). •Let the engine idle with the throttle fully closed for 10 minutes. REPAIR PROCEDURE B Follow the IN-WARRANTY EXCHANGE steps in service bulletin 90-009, Automatic Transmission In- Warranty Exchange Program , to order a remanufactured A/T, replace the failed A/T, and return the failed A/T core. 1. Remove the transmission: •Refer to page 14-203 of the 2003-04 MDX Service Manual , or •Online, enter keyword A/T REM , and select A/T Removal from the list. 2. Clean the transmission cooler. Refer to service bulletin 89-015, ATF Cooler Cleaner . 3. Install a remanufactured transmission: •Refer to page 14-215 of the 2003-04 MDX Service Manual , or •Online, enter keyword A/T INSTALL , and select A/T Installation from the list. 4. Update the PGM-FI software using HDS version 1.018.016 or later (see SOFTWARE INFORMATION ). Refer to service bulletin 01-026, Updating the ECM/PCM . 5.
